Landfill

I see this article widely quoted on the topic of "the most desirable areas" being on the site of a former land-fill, but I haven't found any confirmation for this assertion in the online GIS systems (e.g., http://atlas.resources.ca.gov/atlas/app.asp). I'm not challenging the statement -- I'd just love to see some support. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Libelle (talkcontribs) 06:43, 12 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The Ocean View Farms community garden and the adjacent baseball diamonds are definitely on the former landfill--my landlord grew up in Venice and remembers when Mar Vista was still lima beans and walnut orchards--but I'm not sure about any of the single-family houses. —The preceding

i dont know how much history there is on Mar Vista. but i can add some from when i was a kid crowing up there and between 1952 and 1958 ill shed some lite on it. at that time there was no dump site that i can remimber. i remimber putting trash in an incenerator in my back yard and putting cans and the kitchen garbage in a bucket once a week. And the red car running down venice bulivard to the beach and back to Los Angeles used to ride it all the time. heres a little insite to Mar Vista it was a farm area and dairies the celery fields was across the street from me and the daire was the to . I lived at 12225 pacitic ave at the time if your familler with the area it was between Centinala and Grandwiew ave now go back in history. venice bl had on one corner an atlantic richfield gas station venice and centenela go east and the was a doctors office and the some little stores launry and donuts and a hardware store a 5& 10 paint and then the rexahll drug store on the corner at one time the mar vista market was in here to but they moved to grandview and venice later but on Grandview was my grandfathers barber shop and my uncles shoe repair an ally way a nd some ore mom and pop stuf like coffee shp and things but all around at this time was some changes taking plae the celery feilds went first to build another elimentry school which was grandveiw which went to after it was built until then i went to betsy ross witch was om washington. ok should i go on let me know i think i can even find some old picutres of the area if i look . — Preceding unsigned comment added by Loydpainter (talkcontribs) 02:06, 24 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
