Maccabees

"1 Maccabees and 2 Maccabees recount numerous martyrdoms suffered by Jews"

Okay, well does anyone want to actually list some? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.10.172.101 (talk) 01:47, 21 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

This article is deeply problematic. In addition to the concern raised above, the use of English versions of 1 & 2 Maccabees as the sole sources of information on the Maccabee revolt is eye raising. While translations of these documents were included in copies of the Septagint found among the dead sea scrolls and believed to have been written by a Jew, they are not today considered to be a text of religious significance to Jews (and are in fact viewed as apocryphal by many). The Midrash, Talmud and Mishnah all contain an account of the same historical events as it has been taught to Jewish students for hundreds of years. To be frank, 1 & 2 Maccabees at this point in time is primarily of interest to Catholics and not to Jews. This is stated plainly even here on Wikipedia on the page discussing the subject. The inclusion of actual Jewish religious texts to this article is, in my opinion, the bare minimum requirement to bring this article to even the basest of requirements for scholarship. I will book mark this page to return to work here as time permits to accomplish this. While the overall theme of the article is perhaps sound, researching and citing sources valid to the claims made will take some time. Help is always welcome from those more currently engaged in study on this topic. 76.111.244.85 (talk) 03:44, 15 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

diverge vs. emerge

I think in this sentence "First and Second Maccabees arose from the Pharisaic tradition, from which Christianity later diverged." the authors intended meaning is better expressed with the word "emerged". Unless I am confused as to the meaning of the sentence. Also I will note here (but not put in the article) that the Pharisaic tradition is also from where Rabbinical Judaism emerged. 95.248.82.65 (talk) 20:55, 24 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Spanish inquisition

There have been numerous occasions throughout the history of the Jewish people where martyrdom has been displayed. My goal is to help add to this page by adding more historical content and examples of such actions, while also being able to support my input with credible source text. I believe that we should be able to add more subheadings and under each of the subheadings of Crusades and Spanish inquisition. Also, though I have been taught for the stated under Spanish inquisition to be true, I would like to credit the source text from which that statement was drawn from. I am new to Wikipedia, and only wish to improve upon this already existing page which I believe is important to people wishing to learn about the topic. So, please be kind and patient with me as I learn to become a part of your community. Thank you Garrettspindell (talk) 04:36, 12 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
