Somebody keeps changing the statistics. Not all Hispanics in the United States are Mexican nor are all Central Americans. The actual number is less than 6000 Mexicans living in the UK, and the vast majority are university students. Before anyone writes, they should understand what they are reading. Your claim that the vast majority of Mexicans living in the UK are university students is completely out of touch with reality and ill informed. This is the actual number given by the Home Office of Mexican people with British citicenship or residence, not students or short-term visitors. Mexican Americans represent 9% of the US population. American's in the UK number over 200,000, which would suggest that around 20,000 are Mexican. I live in a small town in the north of England, and even I know a Mexican American family. In 2001 6,000 Mexican born people were living in the UK, adding these together and considering the population change in the UK's Latin American born population in the last 5 years ago (not even starting on people of Mexican descent), I would actually say 30,000 is an underestimate. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 90.210.36.156 (talk) 21:31, 26 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Saopabs83 (talk) 02:38, 27 May 2008 (UTC)Yes, there may be 5000-6000 Mexicans in UK, but there is actual documentation stating that. Your calculations do not constitute valid facts. Are you taking into account that Mexican Americans are the latino group least likely to finish highschool, get a college education and work in careers that are least likely to take them abroad, though they are in all parts of life, from extremely educated to no education, just take a look at the article in wikipedia [1]. Cuban-Americans and Peruvian-Americans are the most educated, most likely to work in a professional field than any other Latin American group, so would it not be safe to assume that they constitute a disproportionate amount of hispanic americans in the UK? You are combining documented fact with your personal opinion, and that does not constitute fact. One of the stipulations for posting on Wikipedia is that there is actual documentation for a claim/data. There may be 30,000 Mexicans/Mexican Americans in the UK, but unless you provide documentation from a reliable source, you cannot add that information. I personally believe that because of Mexican Americans, there are more Mexicans in England than 6,000, but I do not believe your calculations take into account many factors which would affect American immigration. So unless you provide a valid source claiming that 9% of Americans living in the UK are of Mexican descent, please don't add data that is unsubstantiated or represent all Latin/Central Americans as Mexicans because that is not the case. I'm not trying to be discriminatory or anything, I just want to maintain the integrity of Wikipedia.Saopabs83 (talk) 02:38, 27 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

By the way stop trying to make links between Mexicans in the UK and Mexican-Americans, both things have absolutely anything to do with each other, on the contrary, most Mexicans who chose to emigrate here did it because they don't have anything that attach them to the US. Indeed, it's much easier for a Mexican to emigrate to the UK than to the US:
  • We don't need any visa to enter
  • Immigration laws are more relaxed and effective.
  • Here people are thousands of millions of times less prejudice-driven.
  • Highly skilled individuals are welcomed, not only investors or entrepeneurs like in the US,

Background section off topic

I'm a bit concerned that the background section of the article is straying off topic. It essentially covers UK-Mexico relations and the prominence of Mexican food in the UK. Are either of these subjects relevant to Mexican people in the UK? If Mexican immigrants had introduced Mexican food to the UK then that would seem to be relevant, but companies such as Taco Bell and Chiquito probably aren't even owned or run by Mexicans.
