Question

Are monoculars also used in the field to examine objects close-up, like an ant, say, or a flower? Or is that something else?

yes, they are. They're very popular in a way because they have technology to let you see clearly in dark. Some use infrared to aid this. They are indeed used for bird-sighting, surveillance, spying, etc. Look them up on amazon and you will know this 72.144.39.183 21:29, 23 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Needs to be referenced

I have added an original research tag. "used by

visually impaired people" is a primary use? Sounds like someones opinion or impression. This article needs sources and references. Fountains of Bryn Mawr (talk) 19:44, 24 April 2008 (UTC)[reply

mini Maksukov (monocular)

Compact Maksukov's have been marketed by at least one manufacturer: - prior to its loss I had one which I believe was a 35mm aperture and which I found quite useful on nature walks for looking at an object a few meters off the path without my leaving the path to do so. It fit well in a simple cell phone travel case or a pocket. That it would focus to near objects was a major feature. I recall seeing a monocular with a prism or mirror used in a Hollywood film 2000+ (spy? suspense? thrller?) and another in a 'Bourne' film. G. Latest additions

I have taken the liberty of adding more information and references on monoculars, based on my experiences of owning and using over 30 different monoculars and telescopes. I hope readers find this helpful.DavidPaygate (talk) 16:16, 6 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
