It is not acceptable to redirect Moïse et Pharaon to Mosè in Egitto, and it is bad policy to stubbornly redirect articles on later "versions" of works to articles on the original version. Instead these matters must be judged on a case-by-case basis. Moïse et Pharaon is emphatically not a version of Mosè in Egitto. Similarly Prokofiev's Fourth Symphony of 1947 is not a version of his Fourth Symphony of 1929. Admittedly it makes sense to relate versions of works to each other and, in most cases, to use the original as the anchor. But not in the two cases cited, and there are other examples. The result of current treatment and policy grants Moïse et Pharaon, a large and seminal work, no proper coverage anywhere in Wikipedia. So, let the committee reviewing these matters dispatch members to pay attention to, i.e., listen to, the works themselves and set up the pages, and the redirects, according to the findings. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 79.229.188.161 (talk) 09:06, 7 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

• No one is "stubbornly redirecting" anything, nor is it a "policy" in any sense of the word. There several articles for separate revisions/adaptations of operas, e.g.
  L'ange de Nisida/La favorite, Le siège de Corinthe/Maometto II. Many opera articles are written over several years, and by literally dozens of authors—in this case starting from 2005. Sometimes, their evolution has meant that both versions are covered in a single article. However, there's absolutely nothing to stop someone, including you, from turning the redirect into its own article, provided you have enough material, properly referenced, to make a viable article. By "committee reviewing these matters", are you referring to WikiProject Opera? If so, I can mention your point on the project's talk page. An editor might decide to start a separate article for Moïse et Pharaon, but the project is not going to "dispatch members" to do anything. Wikipedia is a collaborative enterprise.
