Timeline of Operation Indian Ocean. Comments? AHeneen (talk) 15:58, 2 March 2015 (UTC)[reply

The example you provide does not use a timeline the way this article does and has some structure to the content. This article is basically just the lead that you've turned into a short "overview" section and then a lengthy timeline. I don't think this subject should be treated with two separate articles. The suggestion to split the article is only because the timeline is long and of decent quality, so it would be easier to separate it and then add appropriate prose sections to this article, rather than butcher the content of the timeline. Actually, the largest section of the Operation Linda Nchi page that describes the military operation itself is the timeline. I ought to know since I largely wrote that page too. That said, I'm sure the suggested split here was made in good faith. However, it is still unnecessary since Operation Indian Ocean, unlike Operation Linda Nchi, was not several years in the making. It was instead conceived within a short period of weeks/months, and the operation is expected to officially conclude soon given the little territory that remains under insurgent control. Most of these towns have already been captured since the government issued its last official territorial control map in October [1]. The brief overview and more lengthy timeline are therefore appropriate for this particular operation. Middayexpress (talk) 12:12, 3 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support - this article is far too detailed at any rate, so if a timeline is desirable (I think their use in most articles is questionable to be honest per the reasons highlighted by AHeneen) by all means split if a consensus develops to do so and if you can I would suggest trying to reduce the coverage to only include notable events. • Past tense However else you want to do it, it shouldn't be written in headlinese present tense. Defeats the purpose of a chronology if everything perpetually happens, instead of sequentially. InedibleHulk (talk) 10:11, 8 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
