"The work that these artists perform is produced outside of the presenting organization." Can anyone explain what this means, especially the word "produced" in this context? "Presenting" and "producing" seem to overlap in meaning, in my experience. --Allen (talk) 10:47, 9 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

A producing organization is typically responsible for deciding questions of specific artistic content, especially at the point of creation or generation, for hiring individual performers, for licensing works, for assembling most of the performance elements or concepts. A "Presenter" is usually the organization that contracts for a specific stop on a tour: renting the venue (if they do not own it), creating and paying for advertising, selling and printing tickets, printing programs, etc. The presenter usually buys a specific artistic product or act whole, in advance, and then "presents" it in a local market on a specific date. In this era, a presenting organization is most often a non-profit entity that also conducts fund-raising to support its efforts.--Wrightjack (talk) 03:28, 24 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
