Basin area

ILEC gives the basin area of lake Todos los Santos as 3036 km2. This is more than the figure given for Rio Petrohue here (2868 km2). I'd assume that the latter figure is the wrong one. I dont have at hand a good figure for the basin of the Petrohue at its outlet into the Reloncavi, but it could be around 3900 km2, so may be 2868 km2 is a typo for 3868 km2 - ? --Lupo Manaro (talk) 17:38, 21 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

ILEC figure could be inaccurate. Another figure given for the drainage basin of Petrohué River is 2644 km² [1]. Jespinos (talk) 20:17, 21 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The figure given in Soto, Arismendi & al, stems from Niemeyer and Cereceda. These are serious authors but do not represent an official reference. The area of the Vicente Perez Rosales Park is given as 2530 km2 (200 km2 less in CONAF's site) and is almost totally lake Todos los Santos catchment. Most of the lake catchment on the southern flank of the Tronador is not included in the Park, which could mean some 500 km2 more, so that 3000 km2 for the Lake at Petrohue looks plausible. For the total catchment of the Petrohue when discharging into the Reloncavi some more catchment is added, includig the catchment of the Hueñu Hueñu that drains the northeastern flank of the Calbuco. I am thus inclined to stick with the ILEC figure for the catchment of the Petrohue river in Petrohue, that is, the entire Todos los Santos catchment. The total catchment of the Petrohue in Ralun we may have to leave open until we can check on a good map or find an official source. --Lupo Manaro (talk) 16:40, 28 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
