I came to this page wanting to understand the difference between "Pottage" and "Potage", and all I see is "not to be confused with ______". I'm confused! If anyone can explain the difference, it should be added to both articles. Otherwise, it seems they should be combined. --

I agree, they are just variant spellings of the same word. There seems to be a claim that "potage" is a more modern variant but this is unreffed and seems highly dubious. --Ef80 (talk) 13:02, 23 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

From Wiktionary and Merriam-Webster, "potage" is the modern English word, derived from Middle French "pottage". For that reason, if the articles are merged, they should fall under the title "potage" with a re-direct for "pottage". It is reasonable to merge them; they already share a lot of material. Agreed to a merger, but the merge should be to "pottage"'; according to the OED, "potage" is the French loan word, and the English-language version became "pottage" (which is the word the OED uses as the primary entry). Morgan Riley (talk) 01:53, 16 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
