Proposal to remove the second paragraph of the article because it only includes primary sources or lacks sources for some statements.

Hello, I propose to delete the second paragraph:

Sibling abuse is significantly more likely to occur in dysfunctional, neglectful and/or abusive homes, and often reflects a lack of appropriate boundaries and discipline on the part of the parents.[2][3][4] In many cases, sibling abuse can occur as "second hand abuse" in which children who have been harmed or maltreated go on to harm siblings.[5] A 1982 study found that of 60% of children who witnessed their mothers abused by their fathers, or vice-versa, subsequently acted out the scene with their siblings.[6] Similarly, those who witness abuse as children are more likely to abuse as adults. Malone and colleagues[7] found that when children witnessed parental abuse they were more likely to behave abusively as adults, and that, contrary to popular belief, girls from such families were more likely than boys to behave abusively towards partners as adults. The "Cinderella effect", which is a conventional wisdom in the English-speaking world, holds that sibling abuse is more common between half-siblings or full step-siblings than genetic siblings. Proposal to improve this article

1.- Complement the definition of sibling abuse.

2.-Add a section of physical abuse (the article only has a section for sexual abuse)

3.-Add a section of how to identify and understand sibling abuse

4.-Significantly improve the section about risk factors

5-Significantly improve the section about preventing sibling abuse

6.-Add a section about treatment for sibling abuse

Comments are welcome! Elenajs85 (talk) 21:29, 29 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Edits to the section on sexual abuse

The second paragraph has a random quotation mark. I tried to see what around it could be the quote but could not identify it. I'll remove it for now. Also, is there a way to merge the source 15 and 6? They are identical, only source 15 has more detail. I'll try to figure this one out as well. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Au24uI (talkcontribs) 23:04, 31 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Parents Responsibilities

A parent who is aware of any kind of abuse by a brother/sister towards a sibling has responsibilities and has to do something to protect the victim. If the parents do not do that, it means that they abuse also the victim, by neglecting the situation.</ref>|url= http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neglect</ref> — Preceding unsigned comment added by 92.154.11.127 (talk) 20:00, 24 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Adult Siblings

This article contains a lot of information, text and details on child siblings. Text, information and references on adult siblings is missing from this article. Keennoi (talk) 19:08, 20 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Edit Proposal

Wikipedia has made it known in 2013 that this article has multiple issues. Namely, that it needs to be rewritten entirely to comply with Wikipedia’s quality standards, that it relies too much on references to primary sources (material that is not independent or has not been peer-reviewed), and that it possibly contains original research. Considering the probable prevalence of sibling abuse in childhood and the urgency with which readers from across the globe search the Internet for answers, the fact that this article has not improved in quality for almost five years since it was reviewed by Wikipedia is regrettable. The talk page itself (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sibling_abuse) is very short with only two entries, which suggests that not many people have been interested in putting their efforts into improving the article. Some ideas for improvement based on Wikipedia’s judgment are: editing what is currently there to comply with Wikipedia’s quality standards, research and reflect on point material from peer-reviewed and otherwise reliable sources, and getting rid of original research. There are some recent on point articles that are secondary and peer-reviewed, such as Amy Meyers, Lifting the Veil: The Lived Experience of Sibling Abuse, Qualitative Social Work, May 2017; Courtney McDonald & Katherine Martinez, Victims’ Retrospective Explanations of Sibling Sexual Violence, Journal of Child Sexual Abuse, Oct 2017; and Diane Stutey & Elisia V. Clemens, Hidden Abuse within the Home: Recognizing and Responding to Sibling Abuse. We would start by reviewing this material and searching for statistical or other macro-level analyses from government, agency, or academic institutions. It would also be meaningful to see what research there is on this issue from our respective home countries. Nkchicago (talk) 22:41, 24 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

incomprehensible

The first paragraph has this:

"A fourth category that brought attention from researchers, such as Stauffacher & DeHart and Card, Stucky, Sawalani, & Little, during the first decade of the 21st century is sibling relational abuse which derives from relational aggression."

I have no idea what this means - and banging readers in the face with a wordy, academic-like sentence (especially in the first paragraph) is bad.

Can we remove it?

I cut the first two sentences of the second paragraph

And here's why.

The second paragraph begins:

"Sibling violence and sibling abuse are different. Violence among siblings happens when both siblings use any type of aggression, the power relationship is equally balanced and both siblings have the purpose of harming the other one."

This is usually covered in articles about sibling abuse with a phrase such as "All brothers and sisters fight." Which then move on to discuss the specifics of sibling abuse.

"The power relationship is equally balanced".... ??

I would like to edit this article

Hello again. The more I read the more painful it got. I'd like to edit more - but it will take time.

If this is a problem please let me know.

Thanks.

I have noticed some the the references used and listed are not the best resources. For example the 7th list resource does not seem the most credible.Bombwaifu (talk) 22:15, 29 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I would also like to remove redundant citations in one part of this article, but I am afraid that if I remove too much content, it would be classified as unexplained content removal, I tried this once in the article about the 2022 Oslo shootings, it was reverted, and I was given a severe warning by another user. 202.169.23.60 (talk) 01:51, 20 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • sigh* My edit was reverted by a user known as Ashepit, even though I removed the citations, and even reorganised a part of the article into a list. Can anyone please explain why? Sincerely, 49.192.44.178 (talk) 10:37, 20 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Wiki Education assignment: Family Aspects of Disability

Is this article so bad?

I just reread the article. I feel like most of the problems have been cleaned up. I removed a few questionable sections, not because I disagree with them but because they aren't cited. Any objections to me removing the "multiple issues" flag? SnappingTurtle (talk) 18:48, 26 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
