Is this article for just the original SC4?

Is this article about the original Simcity 4 and not any expansion packs? I have noticed a Wikipedia article about Rush Hour, yet this article seems to describe elements of Rush hour also. If it's just about the original game, I'd be happy to remove any Rush Hour information in the general summary. If it's information about both games, I'd be happy to add more about Rush Hour to this article. Any classification on this? —Preceding unsigned comment added by WikiSuccess1048 (talkcontribs) 23:00, 27 March 2009 (UTC)

I think this article should represent both Simcity 4 and its expansion pack, because the two games have the same underlying concept. Having an additional page just listing the new features causes the articles to become fragmented, with one having debatable information and one not having enough information. Simcity 4 is an integrated game, and I think it's elements should be integrated as a result. Caymon14 (talk) 18:30, 28 March 2009 (UTC)

Proposing Section "Game Mechanics"

I propose a section that will explain the basic principles behind SC4 gameplay, such as RCI demand, basic elements that make cities functional in the game (like civic buildings and utilities), and the like. I find that without a general knowledge of these factors, the general audience would not even play the game. Caymon14 (talk) 23:47, 27 March 2009 (UTC)

If any debatable information can be sourced, I have nothing against it.

Other uses of SC4

I created a new section on the article about further uses of SimCity 4 (in roleplaying) and it got deleted. I saw fit to include this in an article about the game, since to many people thats 'part' of the game itself. Might I ask why it was deleted? Regarding reliable sources, you might want to take a look at the following sites: Simtropolis, SC4Devotion, COFR, SCJU, Capital SimCity, ToutSimCities, SimPeg, Simphoni Simsports and others. Therefore I do think that they deserve a place in this article...

Define 'notability' and 'reliable sources' please, because, I assure you, and you can see it yourself if you like, there are thousands of people who keep city journals. The aim of this article is to provide a spherical view of the game and its potential.

Vista

Does this game work on Windows Vista? Egon Eagle (talk) 11:34, 2 August 2009 (UTC)

Yes, for the most part. It crashes occasionally though. -mattbuck (Talk) 11:36, 2 August 2009 (UTC)
I have personally found it best to use it on Vista with compatibility mode on Windows XP. There was a section on this in the article but it was deleted due to a lack of reliable sources, a quick search however does reveal some stuff from Microsoft and EA is now available, which I thought would be

City sizes are not official and unnecessary.

Maxis never stated that the largest was 4km. ĕĹ —Preceding unsigned comment added by 216.99.49.238 (talk) 23:34, 14 June 2010 (UTC)

This is one of the few sourced parts of the gameplay section. The link used to go to a SC4ever article, but this is an old fansite that has merged into Simtropolis, and the link now re-directs to the main page. I would check to see if the article had re-appeared on the Simtropolis Omnibus, but it is currently out of action.

Was this an official Maxis source? — Preceding ) 15:16, 19 March 2011 (UTC)
No, the source itself is not from Maxis. The source itself only really needs to be 00:27, 20 March 2011 (UTC)
The Actual size of every tile is specified as 16m in the Maxis-written Readme for the Lot Editor (findable in Program Files/Maxis/SimCity 4/Lot Editor Manual.htm) and each small City Tile is 64 tiles (total in-game cost to drag street across the whole tile = §320, street costs §5 per tile) : 64 tiles * 16 metres = 1024 metres or easily rounded to 1km.
Therefore, every large tile is 4096 metres (1 large tile = 4x4 small tiles).
The basic fact source is official Maxis, and using simple maths and the game itself you can find how big each tile is.Jdenm8 (talk) 14:54, 8 May 2011 (UTC)
Thanks for the info. Unfortunately the original reference has not re-appeared on the Simtroplis Omnibus, though it might do in the future, so I will leave it for now.

Judging by the state of the Omnibus, I doubt that the Official Readme will ever appear there (if it did in the first place). I'll trawl the SimCity 4 website to see if there's a link to the readme there, though the site seems to be down at the moment (and thanks for the welcome!)
EDIT: Actually, it just looks like yet another Simtropolis 7.0 teething issue. I'll see if I can re-source the article on the new Omnibus Jdenm8 (talk) 04:52, 9 May 2011 (UTC)

The scope of third party content.

I don't think that the third party content section of the article really convey's the scope of third party content, like the NAM, SAM, RAM, etc. You are encouraged to download things like this by maxis and , and I expect that the same thing will be said if there is a third party mod for Simcity 2013 that solves the traffic problem, and allows cities to be closer together. 209.193.29.153 (talk) 05:38, 18 May 2013 (UTC)

Importing of Cities from SC3000

Anyone know if SC4 provided for the ability to import a city from SC3000? Both that and SC2000 allowed for importation of cities from the immediate previous version, but I haven't played SC4 and haven't found any info on it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.80.62.93 (talk) 14:37, 28 February 2014 (UTC)

Link rot fix (Pathfinding report)

I'm by no means an experienced wikipedian, but I'm interested in the pathfinding of SimCity 4 and noticed the dead link in this article (Source #18 at time of writing).

robots.txt is preventing access to the archived version of this page, but a quick search on simtropolis brought me to this.

Looks like it got a bit garbled with age but it seems to be the same article at a glance.
