Clinical Applications

SAM has been studied for a little over a decade on a variety of musculoskeletal injuries and conditions from overuse injuries or disease. In addition to treating injuries, SAM has also been studied to accelerate muscle recovery and athletic performance.

Arthritis Pain and Joint Stiffness

SAM is indicated for the treatment of pain and joint stiffness (contracture) for use on a daily basis for 4 hours. Three clinical studies have been conducted on arthritis conditions supported by funding from the United States National Institutes of Health[1] [2][3]. In one randomized placebo controlled trail on knee arthritis, treatment of patients resulted in a 39.0% reduction in knee pain levels. In a second study on arthritis, six-weeks of SAM therapy, reduced pain by 37.1% and increased range of motion by over 5 times. The SAM device continues to be supported by the U.S. federal government to provide an alternative non-pharmaceutical treatment for arthritis pain which can be used by patients on a daily basis.
