Overall, The Beach Boys released a total of 28 studio recorded albums between the years 1962 and 1996.

Suggestion

I don't think there should be track listing in the discography section (that's why album articles are for). A table would also be useful. I would appreciate comments from others because I don't want to mess everything up. --SonjiCeli (talk) 13:15, 15 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The Beach Boys Discography section is too confusing: the “Singles” section is divided into seven sub-sections, more or less arbitrarily. Please consider combining them into perhaps two sub-sections: “1961-1970 singles” and “1970-2012 singles.” With this, the first section would be the Capitol records of the ‘60s for which the group is famous and would combine the A- and B-sides of double-sided hits into one, stressing the success of the group at that time list (27 sides in the Top 40 in 8 years). The second section would include everything else, little of which adds to their fame (8 sides in the Top 40 in 52 years). --Nealumphred (talk) 13:57, 7 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Lead section

I've had a go at concocting a lead section for this discography. The first paragraph gives a very brief overview of the band's history and their impact on popular music, while the second paragraph outlines the specifics of their discography. Hopefully this will be good enough to warrant the removal of the "Lead too short" tag. Anyone agree or disagree? I intend to do more work on this discography over the coming days or weeks and hopefully get rid of the "Cleanup-rewrite" banner too. --Kohoutek1138 (talk) 23:57, 11 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Unreleased albums

I don't see why S&S Vol. 2 should be axed from the list; the Beach Boys fully intended to release this, and in fact, a handful of songs were recorded for it. "In My Room" with Tammy Wynette was one, for example.

Also, "Live In Michigan" was indeed a legitimate unreleased album, as documented by Beach Boys expert Andrew Doe. I linked to his site. Yes, I know that website well. The Live at Michigan listing starts with these words: "Although there's little, if any, documentary evidence to support the notion of such a live album..." Lei'd in Hawaii's entry says "...these two shows were set up in distant Hawaii with the set intent of producing a live album (and possibly film), to be released on Brother if the press of the time is to be believed (in 2006 it emerged that not only had the album been assigned a catalog number - 9002 - but a cover had been prepared)." So the reason that I think that Hawaii should be included and Michigan shouldn't is that there is actual evidence of the Hawaii album, not just suppositions based on hindsight.

Sorry to be a party pooper but the whole "Unreleased Albums" section should be deleted immediately, as per
Notability for Music standards is SMiLE and that album is already covered adequately in it's own article, The Beach Boys' main entry, and the Smiley Smile article. There's no need to have it listed in an official discography - it was never released and therefore should be omitted. So, in closing, I would like to suggest that the entire "Unreleased Albums" section, as added by IP User:71.240.12.135 on February 5, 2010, is deleted immediately as part of the ongoing process of improving this article. --Kohoutek1138 (talk) 10:53, 16 February 2010 (UTC)[reply

Ha ha...good question! :-D I guess I didn't delete it out of courtesy to you and the IP user involved in this discussion. I just wanted to see what you had to say about the matter first. It's similar to why I didn't automatically delete this "Unreleased albums" section the day it was created - I felt bad because someone had obviously put a lot of time and effort into it. Difference between US and UK discographies

I see my listing of the UK release dates has been removed. I added these as listing the UK chart figures but only using the US release dates is, at best, misleading - for example, the Surfer Girl was released almost four years later in the UK, and Live In London nearly six years earlier. Hi! I was the editor who reverted your additions. As stated in my edit summary, only the earliest release of each album should be given in a discography, as outlined at

of Wikipedians active in WikiProject Discography is to only list the earliest release date of an album or single. The fact that The Beach Boys are an American band also gives weight to the U.S. release dates of their records.
However, the UK release dates of an album can (and probably should) be mentioned in the album article itself -- although NOT in the infobox because again, only the earliest release date should be listed there. But mentioning the UK release date in the "Release and reception" section of an album article (or somewhere similar) is perfectly fine and exactly the sort of info that any album article would benefit from. Or... how about a sub-paragraph in the intro text pointing out that the order of the UK album releases differs greatly from the original US dates ? What I'm trying to do is circumvent the impression given that the BB were major UK album artists in the early 60s when the reality is that their first charting LP was 'Surfin' USA' in October 1965.Andrew G. Well, you could add a paragraph about that but really, the proper place for that sort of information would be in the main Beach Boys article I would've said, since it seems like a reasonably significant thing that readers should be made aware of. The brief biographical info in this discography is there to give some basic context for folks who may never have heard of The Beach Boys (remember, many readers of Wikipedia are very young). Of course, it's up to you ultimately but I would again stress that detailing the release schedule of various international markets following a record’s initial release is not really the purpose of a Wikipedia discography. Having said that, your idea of adding a brief sentence or two on the subject to the text at the top of the discography is certainly preferable to listing the UK release date of every album and single. --Kohoutek1138 (talk) 17:40, 27 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

other songs

Three points:

  • Someone needs to check the source on the second Philippines entry, "...Pasadena" was at #7 and The Beach Boys have a song at #5 as well. But since there's no evidence that this is where they peaked, perhaps this column should just be eliminated.
  • It's kind of ridiculous to list "Wishing You Were Here" and "Don't Let the Sun Go Down on Me". They weren't credited to The Beach Boys. Only Carl appears on the latter anyway.
  • Doug Supernaw and Lorrie Morgan need to be switched.

B side singles and other songs

I added the B side singles on the list but needs some updating on charting positions yet. I added two singles that where completely missing and deleted Forever single by John stamos as that is not a real single. Also needs lots of singles added for other songs and maybe retitle it "Non US Singles" since all the B side singles can be erased as I have movied them by their counter par A singles.

Another best-of compilation
