To do, I guess

---Alright, can anyone help with these?---

  • Characters
    • IMHO seems a bit 'spoilery' to list the characters and then list ones that are dead. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 96.56.198.62 (talk) 21:28, 1 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
    • are all of them needed?
      • of course they are all needed...I feel dumb. =) the_ed17 05:34, 23 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
    • are the ones who have their own articles linked to them?
      • I believe so...if you see differently, please change it! the_ed17 05:34, 23 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
    • should there be short descriptions for characters who do not have their own article?
      • still need an answer. =) the_ed17 05:34, 23 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • PLOT SUMMARY-grammar, etc.
  • Red links--Halys Cut, etc.
    • All but
      Minor Elves in Shannara done. the_ed17 05:34, 23 June 2008 (UTC)[reply

please, please, for godssake, do not write things about this book series if you havent read them in detail; i'm not saying you dont know what ur talking about, by all means this is all accurate... but i know how wiki is, its all consumer-based facts and the last thing i want is people to read these pages and get false info on one of the best book series of all time. people believe terry brooks copied from J.R.R. Tolkien, but thats just rediculous. take the time to read these books and see for yourself. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 198.53.15.206 (talk) 16:50, 5 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Major issues with this article

There are some major issues with this article which prevent it from attaining a higher status.

  • Plot summary: in my opinion, the tone is too in-universe for a Wikipedia article. It needs to be adjusted to be a bit more neutral than it currently is. Also,I would say that there is way too much detail included; it seems every single event of the book is mentioned, when the summary really needs to be a SUMMARY, not a recounting. The summary focus needs to be zoomed out a bit, if that makes sense. That said, however, there is much usable material that will serve well for the foundation of a leaner plot summary. It just needs to be condensed and edited.
  • Characters list: The characters list is too long; I doubt that the article needs to list every single minor character in the book. A brief description of the major characters and a few of the more significant minor ones would serve the article better.
  • Literary significance and reception: A really crucial part of any good article on a significant book or book series, and it is entirely missing from this article. Definitely a difficult component, it is true, since one must attempt to hunt down literature reviews and discussions of the book's impact.

Basically, I am looking at The Sword of Shannara as an example of where this article needs to be, and noting the deficiencies. I hope this brief overview of major issues might serve as a springboard for further discussion, as well as a rough road-map for future editors who are interested in working on this article. -BloodDoll (talk) 00:24, 26 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

for criteria
  1. Is it reasonably well written?
    A. Prose quality:
    B. MoS compliance:
    I believe so.
  2. Is it factually accurate and verifiable?
    A. References to sources:
Someone who lives in a bigger town than me (the_ed17) needs to find a 1982 magazine with a review of this.
    B. Citation of reliable sources where necessary:
wellll we need sentences that need reliable sources 1st; the only sentences that need sources at the moment (21:44, 26 July 2008 (UTC)) are in the "film adaptation" section.
    C. No original research:
plot summaries do not require refs, so no OR.
  3. Is it broad in its coverage?
    A. Major aspects:
needs a review from a reliable source...from a 1982 magazine/book/something!...this way, we can have a background section (see The Sword of Shannara)
    B. Focused:
  4. Is it
    neutral
    ?
    Fair representation without bias:
  5. Is it stable?
    No edit wars, etc:
  6. Does it contain images to illustrate the topic?
    A. Images are copyright tagged, and non-free images have
    fair use rationales
    :
    1st edition cover as well.
    B. Images are provided where possible and appropriate, with
    suitable captions
    :
"where possible" mostly...can anyone find and scan some of the original Hildebradt Brothers work?
  7. Overall:
    Pass or Fail:
obviously a fail; I just did this for a guideline to go by. Good day! the_ed17 21:44, 26 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
