Year?

As this was first shown in 2004, but released in 2005, should the title be

In the entertainment industry, a film is not considered "released" until it's put in theaters. The AMPAS Oscar rules, for example, peg the release date to the first theatrical showing, not the first film festival showing. When the movie is available to the unwashed masses at a local cinema, then it's "released." If it's only screened at a place like the Cannes Film Festival, it's not officially "released." This whole thing can be complicated because some films will be screened at a film festical and simultaneously released in theaters. Release Date

The film had a limited one-week release on November 25, 2005, to qualify for 2005/2006 awards and then had a full release on March 10, 2006. BehroozZ 16:37, 19 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • None of the music info is appropriate, and has been removed. Michael Nyman information should be on his page. It is unprecedented to have half an article about a film be about the score, especially in such detail. It almost appeared as though this page was created for the purpose of highlighting Nyman's "50th album" release. In "The Piano," Nyman's score was an integral part of the film, almost a character itself, yet only got one brief paragraph on the movie's page (there is a separate page for the soundtrack). If the Nyman fan who put all that in wants to create a brief paragraph here, then create a soundtrack page, I certainly won't protest, but it does not belong here. We could have a production section and a critical reception section. There may be enough critical analysis for its own section; I found this and this. It looks like Depp has a few books about him in which this film is discussed. Also possible is a historical accuracy section, but it may be best merged elsewhere. This mentions historical accuracy. Do you want to go ahead and start? I spent many hours shortening the plot section (and after the first night, when I spent 6 hours on it, I came back to find someone had flagged the plot section "too long." I couldn't believe it! They should have seen what was here before--a short novel practically, and not even a well-written one. But I shortened it some more and removed the flag. I'm a bit burnt out on this, but I love the film, so if you want to rough in what you think should go into the sections you've named, I'll be happy to come back and talk about it, make suggestions, etc. Do you think the plot is tight enough yet, or should it be briefer still? --TEHodson 06:47, 14 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

What is it about this film that drives people to continually rewrite the plot section in overblown "prose" that is not in keeping with the encyclopedic nature of Wikipedia?
