2009 comments

Can anyone explain why this film has not been more widely released? It does not seem to have been released in America, even on DVD. Boxter1977 (talk) 04:43, 4 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I know. I'm pretty p***ed off about that too. It's only available on a Region 2 DVD. I don't understand it either; maybe times have drastically changed. I remember that in the 1980's, Francesco Rosi's "Carmen" (1984) and Zeffirelli's "La Traviata" (1982) and "Otello"(1986), all of them opera films and all three starring Placido Domingo, were released to movie theatres in the U.S. with no problem. I notice that the article interjects some comments with regards to some of the critical reviews. WW1 or not?

The article says: "The story, which has been updated to a World War I setting..." and "...a new film version of The Magic Flute, set during World War I..."

The box cover says its WW1 but there is an interview on the CD with a manager who says it is not WW1. Having seen the film I would say that it was based on a WW1 type conflict, but it clearly is not a historically correct WW1. One can easily conclude this because the uniforms and some equipment are clearly the product of creative fantasy.

I think the wording of the article needs to be changed to: "The story, which has been updated to a fantasy conflict is based on a World War One trench warfare setting..."
