Cladogram problem

The cladogram in this article is in a very bad state, and has been for over a year. I don't know whether the problem is with the template tuna-cladogram, or with the way it has been called in this article. It needs to be fixed, or if not possible revert to the version before attempting to use a template, when it looked OK: Noyster (talk), 19:32, 24 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

See Wikipedia:Expansion depth limit. That's what the error message is about. Wbm1058 (talk) 21:12, 24 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia:Template limits. There is a definitely a problem with Template:tuna-cladogram, which is a member of Category:Pages where template include size is exceeded. When editing, Show preview gives Warning: Template include size is too large. Some templates will not be included. This seems to be a more serious error than populating Category:Pages where expansion depth is exceeded, as many Template:Taxonomy sub-templates populate the later category, and still seem to work in spite of that. – Wbm1058 (talk) 22:02, 24 March 2014 (UTC)[reply

In edit preview, I see from the parser profiling data that the Highest expansion depth is 41, and the maximum allowed is 40. In edit preview of Template:Tuna-cladogram, I also see 41/40. Preview of Template:Tuna-cladogram/Thunnini shows highest expansion depth is 32/40. Somewhere one level of expansion needs to be removed. Wbm1058 (talk) 21:50, 25 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Simply transcluding {{Tuna-cladogram/Thunnini}} on an otherwise blank page is enough to push the depth to 41/40. So, it seems that sub-template needs to be simplified. Wbm1058 (talk) 22:02, 25 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I restored the last version of this page that worked. It's not clear to me whether the versions using Template:Tuna-cladogram/Thunnini ever worked, and whether it is possible to fix that template given Wikipedia's limits. But if Grolltech can make it work somehow, that's fine with me. Maybe someone in Wikipedia:WikiProject Tree of Life who understands how the {{Taxobox}} templates work can fix it. This family of templates is about the most complicated that I've run across. But since the article seems to display basically the same image as the stand-alone Template:Tuna-cladogram/Thunnini does, I'm not sure I understand the point of going to all the trouble of templatizing it. – Wbm1058 (talk) 15:38, 26 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
