Year established in Dubai?

City focus

A few recent additions to the timeline seem perhaps not precisely relevant to the history of the city of Dubai. I have indicated this in the article not to discourage contribution but to ensure clarity and focus. Explanation justifying inclusion of each indicated event would be most welcome. Thank you. -- M2545 (talk) 11:59, 20 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

What do you mean city ? 62.64.152.154 (talk) 22:29, 4 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

1972 January: A coup is staged in Sharjah, killing ruler Sheikh Khalied bin Mohammed Al Qasimi.

The surrender of the ringleader of the coup, Sheikh Saqr, was taken by Sheikh Mohammed Al Maktoum of Dubai, then Minister of Defence of the UAE.

Also, on the Ras Al Khaimah joins UAE entry, it's just that this completed the UAE. Only 6 emirates joined on 2 Dec 1972, Dubai being one. So that always begs the question 'where's the seventh one'. Leave in or take out as seen fit! :) Alexandermcnabb (talk) 12:55, 20 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Announcements

The timeline includes several "announcements" as events. Do they refer to government officials making public an intention to build something or a plan for something to be realized at a future date? Would it make sense to indicate the outcome of each announcement? For instance the 2003 announcement of the Dubai Maritime City had some impact on the city, but what? Clarification for each announcement would be appreciated. Thanks. -- M2545 (talk) 04:09, 26 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hard to know quite what to do here. For instance, Dubai Maritime City is effectively on hold, although the area exists and has chandlery and rig repair facilities from what I can see on Google Earth. Finding a citable source saying it's on hold is hard. The Palm Jebel Ali is definitely a project on hold, however Nakheel says it will develop it in the future (linked in the article). Business Bay was on hold, but elements are now moving ahead - again, finding an official estimate of a completion date for what are very long term projects that have often been held off during the GFC but are now on again isn't always easy. So there are a few projects we have announcement dates - and sources - for, and which are ongoing, on hold or long term (Dubai World Central, for instance, is a rollout to 2021 and beyond but operational today). Do we want to take all that on, or content ourselves linking these projects to their respective Wikipedia entries which should contain any relevant up to the minute information on progress/status? Thanks for commenting. I think the timeline would benefit from some indication that each "announcement" event refers to the beginning of some process (as opposed to an announcement of the completion or opening etc of something). -- M2545 (talk) 09:05, 26 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Flagged 'em as project announcements, which should do the trick?Alexandermcnabb (talk) 09:17, 26 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Excellent. Thanks. M2545 (talk) 09:35, 26 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
