Charge of heresy?

I don't believe

Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith. If someone can provide a source, I'll add it back to the article. Pmadrid 17:59, 16 August 2005 (UTC)[reply

English translation of Can. 376 on the Holy See's website reads "Bishops to whom the care of some diocese is entrusted are called diocesan; others are called titular." Thus, the definition rendered at the beginning of the article is not entirely correct. Pmadrid 22:35, 17 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Titular archbishops as well?

Here is a case of a titular archbishop. Gabriel Montalvo Higuera. Footnoted blurb in Washington Post. [1]. Student7 (talk) 12:10, 13 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, there are titular archbishops as well. Nuncios and certain curial officials are usually titular archbishops.--Dcheney (talk) 00:31, 18 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Accuracy

It should be noted that it is rare in modern times for a Coadjutor or Bishop Emeritus to be named a titular bishop.--Dcheney (talk) 00:31, 18 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Non-Catholic Titular Bishops?

A recent change was made to the page using as justification that "titular bishop" is used by non-Catholic religions. Can anyone provide any substantiation to this claim? I have never heard it used in any other context and a few quick internet searches does not show it being used in any other context.--Dcheney (talk) 02:49, 9 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I noticed that this was unsourced too but deferred to other more knowledgeable editors about the matter.--Morenooso (talk) 02:57, 9 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
See Titular see#Orthodox Church, which is well sourced. --macrakis (talk) 03:16, 9 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I knew about that section. However it reads occasionally versus almost always for every Catholic bishop. That citation was not introduced here.--Morenooso (talk) 03:20, 9 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
If you look at the cited Kiminas work, you'll see that titular bishops and titular metropolitans are quite common. I have added this ref to this article, too. --macrakis (talk) 02:48, 10 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Too bad it's not an online citation which makes this citation difficult to verify.--Morenooso (talk) 02:52, 10 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Merge tag

I’ve removed the merge tag from here; There was no reason given for it, so it looks like a case of hit and run tagging. In any event, it’s been here for about a year now and there’s been no support for it; nor could I see any justification for a merge (see comment here). Vicars Apostolic

Regarding the change I made to the main article, there are two examples so far: Bp Asiedu (Donkorkrom, Ghana) and Bp-elect Galeote Tormo (Camiri, Bolivia). There has been no formal announcement that I can find, but those often lag when these changes occur. --Dcheney (talk) 17:33, 4 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Chorbishops?

Should chorbishops be mentioned in this article? Does anyone know? Tfdavisatsnetnet (talk) 11:43, 14 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
