I noticed users without legal knowledge & reasonable arguments is editing this Wikipedia page & providing False Information thereby misleading people. The issue of two MLA's switched parties is a mere assumption & False Propaganda. Let me clear this.

Both the MLA's Mr Brishaketu Debbarma & Mr. Ashish Das are ELECTED REPRESENTATIVES & therefore cannot switch parties on their own & whenever they wish. This is not the way. There is a provision for official & legal matters.

People of Constituency 1 voted for IPFT & elected Mr. Brishaketu & therefore, Mr. Brishaketu is an elected representative from IPFT. Similarly, People belonging to constituency 46 voted for the Bjp therefore, elected Mr. Ashish Das & Mr. Das is an elected representative, elected under the banner of BJP. After gaining victory from their said constituencies in 2018, Both the MLA's took oath as MLA's from their respective parties & not the so-called TMC & TIPRA.

Now, if any MLA have issues with his own party or party members, & is indulged into Anti-Party activities and he wishes to switch his party (as per his choice), The provision is either he has to resign from the said MLA post to conduct a BYE-ELECTION getting re-elected from the party of his choice or resign leaving the seat as VACANT so that a fresh election can be conducted Later on. But this didn't happened here.

A lone MLA cannot switch party. There is a provision for switching parties & that is a group of ⅔rd of the Elected Representatives (MLAs) can gather to switch parties. Let me demonstrate with example, if Mr. Brishaketu have to switch from IPFT to TIPRA. He alone cannot. But a gathering of 5 MLA's (which is ⅔ of 8) can shift from IPFT to join TIPRA. That is possible. No legal issues.

Similarly, a lone Asish Das cannot, but a group of ⅔rd of the Bjp MLA's can. A gathering of 24 MLA's (which is ⅔ of 36) can shift.

This is the provision of switching parties.

Also, the ⅔rd of the MLA's have to keep in mind, if they do so, they will banned from entering this party for 5-6 years under Article 10 of the Indian Constitution (which is the Anti-Defection Law).

Now, In case of MLA Brishaketu D/B & Ashish Das both the MLA's are elected representatives from one party & now working under the banner of another party. This is called "Anti-Party activities". Brishaketu Debbarma remains an MLA of IPFT & Ashish Das remains Bjp MLA. They cannot switch except resignation. Even though working for TIPRA & TMC, Brishaketu remains IPFT & Ashish Das remains BJP. Since, neither RESIGNED nor any Bye-Elections held. For reference, I added the link of the Official Website of the Govt. of Tripura to confirm the current Status of the two MLA's.

The link of the official website of Tripura Govt. cannot be considered as a reference in this case. Recently 12 Congress MLAs of Meghalaya switched to AITC. Since the anti-defection law permits merger of 2/3 members of a legislature group with another party, the 12 MLAs will not attract disqualification. But still the official website of Meghalaya Govt. shows them as INC MLAs which is incorrect because AITC is the main opposition in Meghalaya Legislative Assembly now.
