Statue petition

I have again reverted the addition of a petition circulated to have a statue of Stefán Karl erected in his home town.

Originally, this had been added without a source. A later attempt tried to cite a listing on change.org,a

self-published source
. In discussion on my talk page, I explained the need for a reliable source.

The newest addition cites an article in the online version of a tourist magazine. From what I can tell, the article is essentially a blog-like addition to the published version. While I have little confidence that a tourist magazine is a reliable source, a blog add-on to same certainly doesn't cut it in my mind.

Additionally, upon more careful reading, I can't say I understand why this would belong here at all. The statue has only a tangential connection to the subject of this article. The proposed statue is of Stefán Karl, not "We Are Number One". To be a bit blunt, I don't see an attempt to erect a statue as generally notable. Attempts to build a monument of some kind are more numerous than actual monuments are. So, while an article about a person will likely mention some monuments to them, but even a list of all the statues doesn't make the cut. So, we have List of places named for Christopher Columbus and elsewhere an article discussing controversial statues lists several significant attacks on Columbus statues, we certainly don't list the hundreds of statues of Columbus out there (off hand, I know of three public monuments to Columbus in Philadelphia alone, none of which I see in either article listed).

If this belongs anywhere, it is in Stefán Karl. (I'm not convinced it belongs anywhere.) - SummerPhDv2.0 13:48, 1 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
