This article begins:

"A fairly new variation of American football is women's football, a variation of full-contact football featuring all-female teams.

Rules are identical to those of its predominantly male counterpart."

I would like to suggest editing this wording as it is self-contradictory and inaccurate. If the rules of "women's football" are "identical" to the rules of "its predominantly male counterpart" than women's football is not, actually, a variation of American football. American football is American football regardless of whether it's played by men or women.

As the women in the various professional leagues are playing the exact same sport as men who play American football, I would suggest deleting this entry and incorporating a section devoted to women's professional football in the American football entry. Or, at the least, rather than treating "women's football" as a sport that is a variation of, or different than, "American football", this article would be more accurate if it were labeled "Women's Professional Football"- similar to the article about the NFL.

"Overt sexism"? Strong words for an article with no sources. Maybe we should get some citations in the article before we start painting such broad strokes. SeligErasmus (talk) 20:50, 21 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Who said anything about "overt sexism"? My point is that it's pretty clear and logical that if two groups of people are playing the exact same sport with "identical" rules then one of them is not playing a "variation" of that sport. Therefore, this entry is inaccurate.

Canadian football

Some of this is about Canadian football, not American. Accordingly, I've generalized the lede so that the article is about women's gridiron football in general. (By the way, has anybody else noticed that Firefox's spell-checking dictionary for Canadian English is terrible? I can handle that it doesn't have ‘lede’, but it doesn't even have ‘women's’!) I didn't move the page, on the grounds that the American version is much more common, but I did add redirects. Also, in the list of leagues, I noted those that play Canadian football. The claim at the top that they all play American football unless otherwise noted may be wrong, for those leagues that we don't have articles about (or if our articles are wrong), but it's most likely correct. —Toby Bartels (talk) 04:06, 1 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Deleting the following Ph.D. disseration from "External links" as it appears dated, but parking it here for now, in case it turns out to be useful after all:
