- ... that Royal Navy boy seaman Alf Lowe was awarded the Albert Medal for Lifesaving for his actions during a 1948 sinking that killed 29 men? Source: " HMS Illustrious was involved in The Portland Disaster which resulted in Alf’s award of the Albert Medal (later exchanged for the George Cross.) ...
