Opémiska Community Hall fire

  • ... that when the Opémiska Community Hall fire broke out, people inside the room did not evacuate because they believed that the fire was part of a performance?

Source: [1] Page 37 of the document states "L’évacuation ne fut pas immédiate car des personnes ont pensé que cela faisait partie d’un spectacle et furent mises en confiance par les manoeuvres d’extinction" which translates to "The evacuation was not immediate because some people believed that they were witnessing a performance, a belief that rose in confidence by the vigorous attempt to extinguish the fire."
