Otto Franke (sinologist)

Commemorative plaque for Otto Franke
Commemorative plaque for Otto Franke
  • ... that Otto Franke (commemorative plaque pictured), the "Nestor of German Sinology", died after World War II "practically from hunger and exhaustion"? Source: Wilhelm 1949

5x expanded by Zanhe (talk). Self-nominated at 19:25, 17 December 2017 (UTC).

  • review in progress, character count <200, source of hook correct, hook ok, very interesting short/concise article which is readable. Whispyhistory (talk) 12:27, 20 December 2017 (UTC)
  • Copyvio, high score due to 3 large quotes so ok in my opinion unless few other lines can be altered.[[1]]
  • image from commons [[2]]. QPQ check, expanded >5* and expanded from 17 Dec, ie new. Whispyhistory (talk) 19:02, 20 December 2017 (UTC)
  • Comment Can we have some Alts please? The current hook is too cryptic and made up of two quotes, each about a different thing. Philafrenzy (talk) 21:28, 20 December 2017 (UTC)
  • ALT1 ... that pre-eminent German sinologist Otto Franke (commemorative plaque pictured) died soon after World War II, "practically from hunger and exhaustion"?
@Whispyhistory and Philafrenzy: How about ALT1? I've removed the first quote and the Nestor reference. -Zanhe (talk) 20:04, 21 December 2017 (UTC)
  • yes ok with me. I really enjoyed reading the article. Did you come across his views of the political situation surrounding him? Anyway, good to go. Whispyhistory (talk) 20:11, 21 December 2017 (UTC)
@Whispyhistory: thanks for your review. He was a patriotic German but lamented the wars (I read somewhere that at least one of his older sons died in WWI, but can't find an RS to include that in the article), and did not publicly support or oppose the Nazis as far as I can tell. -Zanhe (talk) 20:29, 21 December 2017 (UTC)
Alt 2 that Otto Franke, the pre-eminent German sinologist of his time, was unable to complete his history of China due to the rise of the Nazis?
Alt 3 that Otto Franke, the pre-eminent German sinologist of his time, died "practically from hunger and exhaustion" before he could complete his history of China? Philafrenzy (talk) 21:37, 21 December 2017 (UTC)
ALT2 and ALT3 both look good to me. The reviewer and/or promoter can decide with one to use. -Zanhe (talk) 00:49, 22 December 2017 (UTC)
ALT 1,2 or 3 are all good. Whispyhistory (talk)
