'Nonfiction'

Is it redundant to put in a parameter that denotes Cioran's non-fiction works, as all of his works are non-fiction? I ask because I'm not really sure how templates work, so there might be something I'm missing here. Loafiewa (talk) 15:07, 23 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

First, thanks for creating the current template (and the recently-created article on All Gall is Divided). In the past I considered making a small Cioran template exactly as you've done, but I hesitated over concerns about notability and lack of material needing organizing (only three short book-articles)-and now there's four book-articles! I don't think there's any harm in making individual articles for Cioran's lesser-known books (and a template around same), but I still suspect that some of the books might be better treated as a section in a given article, or later merged somewhere.

Cioran's work might be "non-fiction" in the very broad sense that philosophy is non-fiction, (despite its speculative character). Still, it falls into several literary genres: aphorisms, lit crit, and other things.

With respect to your original question, "nonfiction" is probably a superfluous description. Wikipedia templates are used for several purposes, and this one, a "bottom-navbox" is usually intended as a simple navigational aid for related articles around a given subject. Ideally, such a box keeps things "as simple as possible", stating the main subject at the top and then working out the details in the body of the template.
