2002 order

Going through template's history, it looks like for years the stable version for the 2002 results has been "Elena Berezhnaya & Anton Sikharulidze (RUS)" and then "Jamie Salé & David Pelletier (CAN)". The first time I see the order changed is two months ago by Sportsfan 1234. Since then Artur 10 & I have reverted back to stable version with Sportsfan 1234 changing the template to his preferred version three times in the last two months.

Besides it being the stable page version for over 12 years of this templates's existence, it is the order used in official sources, see IOC lists 1, 2 & result page 3. While Skate Canada reverses the order, given "Canada" in the name, they're the opposite of a neutral source.

Based on edit summaries, Sportsfan 1234's argument seems to be that we should ignore official sources & stable page version and instead alphabetize by NOC code. I completely disagree with this. If for some reason we wanted to ignore official sources (which I still don't understand why), we should alphabetize by athletes' names, starting with first athletes' surnames. Unlike curling doubles or 2-man bobsleigh where result pages often list country without individuals' names, figure skating pairs & ice dance results almost always list the couples' names - this can be seen on pyeongchang2018.com website & elsewhere. While other sports may choose to alphabetize ties by NOC (which I'm not convinced they do since I've found multiple examples disputing this), figure skating doesn't.

I'm in favor of stable page version & using official IOC sources instead of arguing user/country preferences. Cheers, 15zulu (talk) 04:35, 6 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
