About the town

This town is situated 6 kilometres (3.7 mi) north-east of

Divya Desams.[2] Thiruvattar has been mentioned as Adi Keshava kshetra by Madhva sect saint Shri Vadiraja Tirtha in his pilgrimage travelogue Tirtha Prabandha
written in sixteenth century.

Demographics

As of 2001[update] India census,[3] Thiruvattaru had a population of 18,404. Males constitute 49% of the population and females 51%. Thiruvattaru has an average literacy rate of 77%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 78%, and female literacy is 75%. In Thiruvattaru, 10% of the population is under 6 years of age.

Thiruvattar assembly constituency is part of

Nagercoil (Lok Sabha constituency).[4]
