Blockchain Research Lab gemeinnützige GmbH (BRL) is a non-profit

cryptocurrency and the publication of the results in the form of scientific papers and contributions to conferences and other media. The non-profit research institute aims to further the general understanding of the blockchain technology and to understand resulting challenges and opportunities as well as their socio-economic consequences.[1]

History

The BRL was founded in 2018 by Dr. Ingo Fiedler, Dr. Lennart Ante and Fred Steinmetz.[2] Since its inception, the BRL has been dedicated to providing insights and knowledge about the potential of blockchain technology and digital currencies in various sectors, including finance, supply chain management, healthcare, and education.[3] Over the years, the BRL has expanded its research scope to cover emerging trends and topics in the blockchain and cryptocurrency spaces. This includes areas like decentralized finance (DeFi), non-fungible tokens (NFTs), and the environmental impact of blockchain technologies. Additionally, the BRL has been actively involved in providing expert opinions and advice to governments, regulatory bodies, and private organizations on matters related to blockchain technology and digital currencies.

The Blockchain Research Lab has not only established itself as a leading research organization in its field, but it has also played a significant role in raising public awareness and fostering informed discussions around the opportunities and challenges presented by blockchain technology and cryptocurrencies. In 2018, the research institute conducted the first representative population survey in Germany to determine the prevalence of cryptocurrencies among the population. The results have been published in peer reviewed journals [4][5] and have been cited by German media and politics [6]. Through its research, publications, and media presence, the BRL continues to contribute to the global understanding and development of these transformative technologies.[7]
