Rie Aruga (有賀リエ, あるが リエ, Aruga Rie) is a Japanese mangaka born in Omachi, Japan. She is mainly known for her work Perfect World (パーフェクトワールド).

Career

In 1998, Obata made her debut with Rain Drops published in the Shogakukan's magazine Deluxe Separate Volume Shojo Comic. Since her debut, Obata's works are primarily published in Shogakukan's Betsucomi.

In 2002, We Were There began serialization in Bestucomi, eventually becoming her most popular work with over 7 million volumes in circulation[1]. An anime adaption of the work was released in 2006, followed by a live-action film in 2012.

From July 31 to September 5, 2010, an exhibition of Obata's original art was held on the second floor of JR Kushiro Station in Hokkaido[2]. Exhibitions of Obata's original artwork from We Were There were also held in Sapporo and Tokyo from March to April 2012[3].

  • 2011 -Received the Kiss Gold Award for "Astronomical Observation" at the 6th Kiss IN. This work was published in " Kiss " as a debut work  .
  • 2014 - Started serializing " Perfect World " from the May issue of "Kiss"  .
  • 2016- "Perfect World" won the Best Shojo Manga Award in the French magazine " Animeland "  .
  • 2017 -It was decided to make a live-action movie of "Perfect World"  .
  • 2018 - October 5 movie release  . The box office revenue on Saturday and Sunday of the first week (October 6-7) was 117,380,800 yen, and won the first place in live-action Japanese movies  .
  • 2019- "Perfect World" won the 43rd Kodansha Manga Award for Girls  .
  • 2021 -The March issue of "Kiss" has finished the serialization of "Perfect World"  .
  • 2022 - Started serializing " Rie Aruga Series Factory Night View " from " Morning " No. 13  .

Awards

In 1998, Obata won a Shogakukan Award Honorable Mention in the New Mangaka category for the one-shot Rain Drops[4]. In 2004, We Were There won the 50th Shogakukan Manga Award in the shoujo category, tied with Sand Chronicles by Hinako Ashihara[5].
