Cristophe Chassol - commonly "Chassol" - is a French musician born in 1976 from Issy-les-Moulineaux, banlieue parisienne, France. He studied at the Conservatoire de Paris as well as the Berklee College of Music in Boston.

He has collaborated with many international artists including

Sebastien Tellier, Phœnix, Sophie Calle
, and Xavier Veilhan. Chassol first began his work composing for film, television, and advertising. After some time he developed his personal writing style coined "Ultrascore". He has published six studio albums at this time.

Biography

Chassol began his musical work young at the age of four, studying for 6 years at a local conservatory. He received a scholarship from the Berklee College of Music in Boston, graduating in 2002. [1] For the following 15 years he composed primarily for film, television, and advertising. He was a conductor from 1994 to 2002, then working with - among others - Phœnix, Sébastien Tellier, Acid Washed, and Keren Ann on his album Politics in 2004.

In 2011, Chassol performed live on piano/keyboard with drummer Lawrence Clais on his first film: NOLA Chérie (film commissioned by the Contemporary Arts Center in New Orleans). Signed with Tricatel, NOLA Chérie appeared on the X-Pianos album, a collection of 33 tracks released on DVD/CD. After New Orleans, Chassol released the CD/DVD album Indiamore in 2013. in July 2012, he mixed his harmonizations of sounds, images and traditional music with sequences of chords with pop and jazz sounds. He then began a series of concerts accompanied by drummer Jamire Williams.

In 2014 Chassol won the FAIR selection and the "Deezer Adami" prize.[2]

In 2015 he composed his album Big Sun, a tribute to Martinique - where his lineage lies. The album focused of his composing style of Ultrascore, described as harmonizing with the sounds in the street.[3] Following this release he went on tour.

In 2016, he participated in the composition of Frank Ocean's album Endless.[4]

Since 2017, he has hosted a weekly column in France Musique where he analyzes a piece of modern or contemporary music.[5]

In 2019, he participated in the album When I Get Home by Solange.[6]

In 2020, his new album Ludi was released, a new ultracore project inspired by the novel The Game of Glass Beads by Hermann Hesse.[7]
