Current Project - Improve the article on Andy Irvine (musician)

Pdebee is currently working on the WP article about Andy Irvine.

On 22 July 2013, I started updating the article on Andy Irvine (musician) and intended to complete the task within a few weeks. However, I soon identified the need also to create WP articles for many of his recordings. When it's all done, I'd like to aim for GA status and, if granted, then add a final 'end of job' update in the present section at my user page.

Project log

  • Structure the article: add sections on Woody Guthrie influences and Commitment to social justice, and organize the Music Career section by decade, with sub-sections for each major project. ( Done)
  • Expand all sections: provide factual details corroborated by reference citations from reliable, third party sources. To this end, I have used mainly Leagues O'Toole's The Humours of Planxty, Colin Irwin's In Search of the Craíc and my collection of Frets and Folk Roots magazines with articles on Irvine's various projects over the decades. ( Done)
I have also relied on Irvine's official website for 18 (14.63%) of the current 123 citations (116 of which I added since 22 July 2013), when no other source was available. [20 November, 2014 (UTC).] ( Done)
  • Reduce, to the strictest minimum, the number of quotations I initially added and apply, throughout the article, the WP standard of boxing all quotations > 40 words. ( Done)
  • Also provide additional reference citations from reliable, third party sources in the form of links to online newspaper articles and reviews, when they provide useful content. ( Done)
  • Add, retrospectively, the Retrieved on (date) tag to all notes and references containing external links. ( Done)
  • Include, where possible, references to Irvine's sources for his choice of songs and tunes, such as his songbook (Aiming for the Heart), Sam Henry's Songs of the People, the Planxty songbook and the sources he mentioned in the sleeve notes of all his recordings. ( Done)
  • Provide details on personnel and tracks for all Irvine's major recordings, except those (such as the Planxty albums) for which such details are already provided in their respective WP articles. ( Done)
  • Add
    wikilinks
to other, relevant WP articles. ( Done)
  • Left a message in a new section of the article's Talk page, here, about the pronunciation of 'Irvine' and inviting responses to the idea of adding (or not) the same ref tag as currently found in the WP article about the town of Irvine, North Ayrshire:
"Irvine (pronounced
Scottish Gaelic: Irbhinn)". (
 In progress)

To Do List

  • Add a summary overview of the songs Irvine contributed to Patrick Street albums (as I have already done in the sections entitled Patrick Street – All in Good Time and Patrick Street – Cornberboys), into the following sections:
    • Patrick Street  Done
    • No. 2 Patrick Street  Done
    • Irish Times  Done
    • Made in Cork  Done
    • Live from Patrick Street  Done
    • Street Life  Done
    • On the Fly  Done
  • Remove (for copyright reasons) the previously inserted poem-style quote boxes for one song in each section about the following albums:
    • Patrick Street: "Patrick Street" ( Cancelled)
    • No. 2 Patrick Street: "Tom Joad" ( Cancelled)
    • Irish Times: "Brackagh Hill" ( Cancelled)
    • Cornerboys: "Down By Greer's Grove" (eraser Undone)
    • Made in Cork: "Her Mantle so Green" (eraser Undone)
    • Live from Patrick Street: "Braes of Moneymore" (eraser Undone)
    • Street Life: "Green Grows the Laurel" ( Cancelled)
    • On the Fly: "Sergeant Small" ( Cancelled)
  • Create an article about Declan Masterson, as discussed with Rhododendrites. The purpose of this article is to enable me to wikilink to it from the articles: 1. on Irvine and 2. on some of Irvine's albums, where Masterson is mentioned. And also, of course, from any other articles, such as Riverdance, etc.  Done
  • Complete the summary description of each track in the Overview section of the article on Abocurragh.
  • Ask someone to upload photos into Commons.
  • Submit the article for GA Review.
