Roscommon Castle (

Justiciar of the Lordship of Ireland, on lands taken from an Augustinian priory.[1]

The castle was located on a slope and is now a ruin. It covered a rectangular area and had four D-shaped towers three stories high and a two-tower gatehouse . One of the entrance towers is still preserved today with a vaulted roof. The entire castle was surrounded by a high curtain wall.

The Irish Government are in charge of the care of the castle through the state agency The Office of Public Works (OPW). The castle is on the List of National Monuments in County Roscommon.[2]
