Welcome!

Hello, and

WP:ANI
. I greatly appreciate your constructive edits on Wikipedia. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some pages you might like to see:

You are welcome to continue editing without logging in, but many editors recommend that you create an account. Doing so is free, requires no personal information, and provides several benefits, such as the ability to create articles. For a full outline and explanation of the benefits that come with creating an account, please see this page. If you edit without a username, your IP address (2.28.13.202) is used to identify you instead.

In any case, I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your comments on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your IP address (or username if you're logged in) and the date. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or ask your question and then place {{helpme}} before the question on this page.

Again, welcome! Drmies (talk) 02:44, 21 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you very much indeed, Drmies! 2.28.13.202 (talk) 02:47, 21 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I clicked Geolocate--that is a very exciting part of the world. I hope to see it before I die. Thanks again for your contributions. Drmies (talk) 02:53, 21 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
If you do, you have to trek up (or spend 4 or 5 quid on a taxi) to McCaig's Tower. I'm bored stiff of the tower itself after seeing it every day for years but the view can still captivate me for hours. Kerrera is nice for a walk and Mull is a decent wee day out too. We have a distillery dating back to the 1600s which does tours as well. We're a friendly, down to earth bunch if a little rough round the edges, you'll be made to feel very welcome! 2.28.13.202 (talk) 02:57, 21 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you--and thanks for giving me something to click on so I can tour virtually--I think this is how I got started on Wikipedia in the first place. Drmies (talk) 12:09, 21 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Hi again @Drmies:! I never saw this because I went home from this address and my home IP keeps jumping, I'm back in this location again. Anyways, you're most welcome. 2.28.13.202 (talk) 19:28, 27 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I saw your note on ANI - I'd like to go and have a pint in Inverie at some point in the next decade ... perhaps. Anyway, regarding the substance of your post over there, I have been there, done that and got the T-shirt. See User talk:Ritchie333/Archive 45#The war on IPs continues. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 14:18, 21 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry I'm just seeing this @Ritchie333:. If you ever did find yourself in my corner of the world I'd sure be game to meet up for a pint if you found a way to track me down. I wonder if it might be beneficial to create a centralised place to help newbies and IPs to get support and to nicely assist regulars in how to approach these editors? 2.28.13.202 (talk) 19:28, 27 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
We need to be able to ping and thank IP editors. Drmies (talk) 20:06, 27 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
We also don't get notifications on reverts. 2.28.13.202 (talk) 20:11, 27 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Your UAA reports...

... have been stellar, thank you. --kelapstick(bainuu) 21:40, 28 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Kelapstick: You're most welcome! :) 2.28.13.202 (talk) 22:12, 28 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Is that you, BobTheIP?

Just wondering. Sincerely, TintedFate 18:49, 4 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, yes it is. I sometimes edit from this location which seems to have a stable IP (my home one seems very unstable). -- BobTheIP editing as 2.28.13.202 (talk) 18:51, 4 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Well, that trolling kid that was stalking and harrassing you got blocked. Was about to warn him, but an admin dropped the banhammer (or blockhammer in this case) on him before I could. Sincerely, TintedFate 18:54, 4 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Yep, just saw. Thank goodness. They've wasted the time and patience of far too many Wikipedians. Thanks for stopping by, incidentally! :) -- BobTheIP editing as 2.28.13.202 (talk) 18:56, 4 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
No problem. Sincerely, TintedFate 18:58, 4 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Bob

If you want a permanent talk page, I'd be more than happy to host it in my userspace. Bellezzasolo Discuss 20:25, 4 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Bellezzasolo Wow, that's a generous offer! Thank you, I'll give it some thought :) -- BobTheIP editing as 2.28.13.202 (talk) 20:26, 4 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, sorry, but I have to ask; instead of bemoaning not having the ability to be pinged or notified of reverts, like above, or contemplating having to use someone else's userspace as a dedicated talk page... why not just create an account and get all that? (and more) No more issues with wonky IP addresses, or having to id yourself with a niokname, and with all your contributions, you can take credit for them and build something. "TintedFate", whom you seem somewhat familiar with did just that today, created an account. I'm just curious why some regular contributors don't or won't. Can you shed any light on that? Thanks -

Hi
Thewolfchild. I've discussed a similar query at User talk:92.29.29.149#thanks, but in short I was neutral to it all and likely to have signed up if I'd received a friendly offer and especially an offer of a helpful ear being around if I needed one. Unfortunately, I received some pretty targeted complaints about using an IP which turned me off editing. All that said, my more recent interactions with editors in this regard has been much more positive so I'm starting to consider it again. (I'm not actually sure who TintedFate is but I suspect they're another dynamic IP editor who had major conflicts with the now-blocked troll they were discussing in the past. An IP helpfully popped up and suggested a rangeblock at AIV. Looking into the range's older contribs leads me to a lot of warring with a dynamic IP.) Thanks for dropping by. :) -- BobTheIP editing as 2.28.13.202 (talk) 23:21, 4 April 2018 (UTC)[reply

It's too bad you had that experience. I know there are several people who are good, long-term, contributors using solely IP access, but unfortunately, the massive number of IP vandals, trolls, socks and the one-time-pop-in-make-a-useless-edit-and-leave types have given IP users a bad reputation in some eyes. They shouldn't take that out on all IPs of course, but it's still going to happen regardless. I can understand new users being wary of registering, but once someone has spent some time here and gotten to know the project, I just can't understand why they wouldn't want to take advantage of all benefits of an account, especially considering there really isn't a downside. (Hence the reason the I asked). But it's your choice, and if you're ok with it, then so be it. I actually used IP access for over 4 years before registering myself, but the

I actually kinda like the increased scrutiny in a way because that's kinda like the ultimate way of ensuring your edits are judged purely on merit. Still, though, the watchlist has been tempting me and I recently noticed there used to be a current events WikiProject and I'm interested in reviving it... I'd admit defeat at that point and agree and account would make that ten times easier. -- BobTheIP editing as 2.28.13.202 (talk) 23:59, 4 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
