In context it doesn't make much difference. But backbenchers are in government. They aren't in the cabinet, or the ministry. But they are in government. Just as labor backbenchers are not in the shadow ministry, but they are part of the opposition.

I have consulted a number of sources, and I'm certain you're wrong. Legally, the government is the governor-general and his executive council. By convention, the government is the cabinet. Either way, backbenchers are by definition not in government. Snottygobble 08:59, 8 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
OK, so take away the backbenchers. Would the cabinet still be in government? Alan Baskin 10:22, 8 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
No. What's your point? By that argument half the electors would be in government too. Snottygobble 11:47, 8 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I saw that you had put an AfD tag on the article but didn't finish it. It looks non-notable to me and so I have delted it. Cheers. CambridgeBayWeather (Talk) 07:55, 9 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

No worries. BTW you can sign your name with four tildes like this: "~~~~", and you can make it display "alanb" by going into your preferences, and changing the signature box. Graham87 08:26, 21 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
