Semi-protect

Could Spencer Hawes and Chris Kaman be temporarily semi-protected? Mostly IPs adding their respective reported signings to infobox etc. DaHuzyBru (talk) 14:20, 6 July 2014 (UTC)

checkYBagumba (talk) 16:48, 6 July 2014 (UTC)
Cheers! DaHuzyBru (talk) 17:21, 6 July 2014 (UTC)

Danny Granger please. DaHuzyBru (talk) 05:03, 8 July 2014 (UTC)

An extension on Granger and the 2014–15 transaction page would be good I think. DaHuzyBru (talk) 16:04, 11 July 2014 (UTC)
checkY Granger. ClockC Will wait on transaction page; only one edit, was cited, and at least LeBron himself said he was coming back.—Bagumba (talk) 17:50, 11 July 2014 (UTC)
True, and yes no doubt, it's inevitable. But at least for the transaction page, we have to wait for the Cavaliers to officially announce it. That source was just as irrelevant as every other random news source. DaHuzyBru (talk) 17:55, 11 July 2014 (UTC)
Not saying it's a legal contract, but it's a content issue whether a player (or agent or owner) announcement is verifiable enough for this page. Anonymous reports are less reliable and I'm more quick to protect in those cases. Cheers.—Bagumba (talk) 18:26, 11 July 2014 (UTC)
Yeah, I'll give in. Impossible to win. I shall move it later when the Cavs announce it. Thanks for the input. DaHuzyBru (talk) 19:00, 11 July 2014 (UTC)

Pau Gasol needs some semi-protection I feel. Quite a lot of vandalism of late in addition to Bulls edits. DaHuzyBru (talk) 02:51, 13 July 2014 (UTC)

@
WP:INVOLVED to take action personally). The alternative would be a lot of edit war blocks ;-) —Bagumba (talk
) 16:10, 13 July 2014 (UTC)
Far out! User:Ucla90024, who seems to an experienced editor (which is odd) is very persistent, so I'm stopping with Lin now – I ain't getting blocked again for edit warring. I tried everything with him. I endorse full protection. Cheers. DaHuzyBru (talk) 16:13, 13 July 2014 (UTC)
Unfortunately, there aren't enough editors active in
WP:NBA with a common set of values to patrol/enforce this. LeBron James mess is prime example. I guess we've all failed to educate and recruit new editors, or maybe it's futile with all the driveby editors. Anyways, take this place for what it's worth.—Bagumba (talk
) 16:19, 13 July 2014 (UTC)
No doubt! It's frustrating that even once you inform users (new or old) about the difference between agreed and signed, they don't take any notice. I just don't even bother with editing James' article, much the same with Carmelo Anthony – just too much traffic! I shall persist with the others, however. DaHuzyBru (talk) 16:25, 13 July 2014 (UTC)

Eh, so much for all that [1]. DaHuzyBru (talk) 17:47, 13 July 2014 (UTC)

And also, with Luol Deng's signing agreement [2], semi-protection will likely be needed. DaHuzyBru (talk) 18:34, 13 July 2014 (UTC)
Someone else go to it. Re: cases like Lin, try
WT:NBA. Not worth stressing or getting blocked over this stuff, and the article will eventually fix itself, even if it takes longer than we'd like.—Bagumba (talk
) 02:01, 14 July 2014 (UTC)

User:Prosportsexpert

Hey, Bagumba. This guy may need a time-out. He's been repeatedly warned to stop messing with the formatting of NBA infoboxes (see here), including capitalization, etc., on his talk page and in edit summaries reverting his changes. Can you do something -- at least issue a block warning? Dirtlawyer1 (talk) 20:02, 13 July 2014 (UTC)

@
WP:ANI or with me as needed. BTW, anyone can leave warnings on another's page. In this case someone else left it already, but it always expedites things if users self-patrolled and issues appropriate warnings on their own, and bring in admins to block as a last resort. Cheers.—Bagumba (talk
) 02:16, 14 July 2014 (UTC)
Thanks, Bagumba. I usually leave a more personal message (rather than a templated warning), with a brief explanation of what I perceive to be the problem, and asking the evil-doer for his cooperation. I did that in this case, and was ignored. I suppose I'm just not as intimidating as the Man with the Badge. LOL Dirtlawyer1 (talk) 02:24, 14 July 2014 (UTC)
I did see your good cop message. When that fails, I hereby award you a junior bad cop badge to get medieval.—Bagumba (talk) 02:28, 14 July 2014 (UTC)
Does that make me some sort of Junior G-man Admin? Dirtlawyer1 (talk) 02:32, 14 July 2014 (UTC)

@Dirtlawyer1: I've tried many times with this guy! I've reverted him many times, and he still persists on capitalising player positions. I don't think he's going to stop no matter what you do. A "timeout" will probably be the only thing that eventually stops him. DaHuzyBru (talk) 02:31, 14 July 2014 (UTC)

  • Yeah, DaHuzy, but I reverted about 150 of his NBA bio edits, back through July 4. About 90% of them were the infobox free agent and player position capitalization problems. Maybe that will send a message, assuming he notices. Dirtlawyer1 (talk) 02:35, 14 July 2014 (UTC)
@DaHuzyBru: In the interest of AGF, I usually like to wait until after a final warning unless its a
vandalism-only account.—Bagumba (talk
) 02:39, 14 July 2014 (UTC)

WNBA infobox

(branched from #User:Prosportsexpert thread)

On an unrelated note: Is there some reason why the WNBA bios are not using the generic "Infobox basketball biography?" I didn't even know there was such a thing as the "Infobox WNBA biography" until someone changed it in on of Lady Gators pages on my watch list . . . . Dirtlawyer1 (talk) 02:32, 14 July 2014 (UTC)

@Dirtlawyer1: Template:Infobox WNBA biography shows that it was in the process of being merged, but ran into technical difficulties.—Bagumba (talk) 09:01, 14 July 2014 (UTC)

Nikola Mirotić

Hate to ask but can you autoconfirm protect this page? Apparently he tweeted he's joining the Bulls but no announcement (and probably won't happen til Gasol gets worked out for them). Thanks for considering it. Rikster2 (talk) 00:26, 14 July 2014 (UTC)

Done.—Bagumba (talk) 02:05, 14 July 2014 (UTC)

Odd stuff going on just then with my talk page... man. DaHuzyBru (talk) 17:12, 14 July 2014 (UTC)

ESPN bios

Ok, I understand that about how ESPN don't re-direct their links i.e. college ones will go straight to pro. I shall keep that in mind. Cheers. DaHuzyBru (talk) 08:47, 16 July 2014 (UTC)

LeBron James

I saw you in the couple conversations in LeBron and the associated talk page, not sure if you said anything on my RfP last week when I asked for temporary full but it was protected due to edit warring over the intent without contract where I had added Pending Contract so people would at least be ok with that. However it seems you've been dealing with this number "decision" now that he's officially on the team. Maybe another temporary full until he officially announces his number? cliffsteinman -- Discuss 19:33, 16 July 2014 (UTC)

Might be a good idea. As I started at
WP:RPP.—Bagumba (talk
) 19:48, 16 July 2014 (UTC)
I wouldn't see that as a conflict, since you're also keeping on top of this subject that might give it the quickest turn around time. It's always about being the best live encyclopedia, no conflict by you locking due to edit warring. Maybe if there was a content dispute or an opinion conflict. cliffsteinman -- Discuss 19:52, 16 July 2014 (UTC)
One would think ... however, more harmless things than this have caused drama here. I'll pass on this one.—Bagumba (talk) 19:58, 16 July 2014 (UTC)

Protection?

There has been a lot of recent activity by newly-created accounts changing her nationality in the infobox from "American" to "Native American" (or similar). Does this qualify for page protection? I get the pride aspect, but the field is what it is. Just not sure how to proceed and don't want to edit war over it. Rikster2 (talk) 18:44, 20 July 2014 (UTC)

Which article? I'd start a discussion on affected article(s) or WikiProject, or discuss directly with editor. Protection might be iffy in this case if there is not a clear consensus first.—Bagumba (talk) 18:50, 20 July 2014 (UTC)
Sorry, Shoni Schimmel. I put a note on the article Talk page and left a message for the latest user to change it. Rikster2 (talk) 18:52, 20 July 2014 (UTC)
I'm a little unclear about your "clear consensus" comment. I think there is quite clear consensus that the nationality field is for citizenship. That's been the norm for indigenous Australians, Croat/Serb, "Filipino American" (like Jordan Clarkson recently), etc. why would this be any different? The last user has again changed the field, so in the interest of 3R I am done with it, at least for now. That's the unfortunate thing about WP these days, one is at a real disadvantage when one plays by the rules. These new users don't care about consensus, WP guidelines or anything else. They just care about jack hammering their one change or set of changes until they get banned. Rikster2 (talk) 21:16, 20 July 2014 (UTC)
"clear consensus": it was a generic response prior to knowing the exact article and situation. That said, any article can apply an exception to any practice per
involved in the discussion for now, so feel free to let me know if future admin action is needed here.—Bagumba (talk
) 23:16, 20 July 2014 (UTC)

User:Nicole connelly

After your final warning, the user has continued with edits on Evan Turner and Mike Miller. Should a block be next? DaHuzyBru (talk) 18:22, 22 July 2014 (UTC)

Thanks for the heads up.—Bagumba (talk) 18:29, 22 July 2014 (UTC)

Hey, Bagumba. Can you move

FYI

I think the work you did on Natalie Nakase's article is worthy of a DYK conomination. Thanks for helping! – Muboshgu (talk) 14:22, 23 July 2014 (UTC)

@Muboshgu: I was going to copy from my user namspace to main, then realized that I had some merging to do :-) Thanks for taking the lead on this.—Bagumba (talk) 19:00, 23 July 2014 (UTC)
Ohh, you had a userspace draft for her article in progress. Now I understand how you managed to find and expand that so quickly! I just did a little searching on her after I read the NYT piece and decided it was enough for a start. You made it a true C. – Muboshgu (talk) 19:18, 23 July 2014 (UTC)

Kent Bazmore

Hi i got your message just now and i did find evidence that Kent Bazemore willsign with the Atlanta Hawks and i also have link http://espn.go.com/nba/story/_/id/11205854/kent-bazemore-agrees-terms-atlanta-hawks . Thanks — Preceding unsigned comment added by CrazeRPG (talkcontribs) 03:56, 24 July 2014 (UTC)

Thanks for discussing this. Reiterating my earlier message on your talk page, this is
premature information about something that may happen, not something that has verifiably taken place. Note the source says "... will sign a two-year deal ..." i.e. it has not happened. Per Wikipedia:WikiProject Sports/Handling sports transactions, transactions are typically not updated on Wikipedia until they have occurred, usually confirmed by an official statement or press release. Thanks for your understanding.—Bagumba (talk
) 04:48, 24 July 2014 (UTC)

Rashard Lewis

With Rashard Lewis' contract having just been voided by the Mavericks [3], what happens with the transaction page in terms of his initial signing on July 19? 1. Does nothing happen? 2. Does it stay there and instead add him to the waived list (although this says "He doesn’t need to pass through waivers.")? or 3. Just remove the signing completely from the list as if it didn't happen? – What has happened in the past do you know? DaHuzyBru (talk) 16:43, 23 July 2014 (UTC)

FWIW, it's not listed at http://stats.nba.com/transactions.html?ls=iref:nba:gnav (assuming it was before). I guess it's like an annulment i.e. it doesn't count as ever happening. I'd say remove it. If there are objections, it's not the end of the world to just leave it with a footnote about the voided contract.—Bagumba (talk) 19:10, 23 July 2014 (UTC)
Yeah, thanks. All good. Chrishmt0423 added a note about it. DaHuzyBru (talk) 04:09, 24 July 2014 (UTC)
Looking at it, can't really tell from the table that he is available again. I might go and tweak it.—Bagumba (talk) 05:16, 24 July 2014 (UTC)

Thank you!

Dear User:Bagumba, thank you so much for the thoughtful barnstar; it made my day! I'm glad that editors like you work to improve the quality of articles throughout Wikipedia, such as the one we worked on, LeBron James. I wish you all the best!
