If by "university" you mean Duke then yes I am a student, and I see you are too. Cool. Gregw824

I took the liberty of putting you in the Duke University Wikipedians category. Since an informal community had already developed around the Duke page, I thought I might as well formalize it. Cheers, JTM.

VfDs for Tekken Characters

You wrote on my talk page: Although I admire your determination to clean Wikipedia of unecessary pages, it seems to me you are not very knowledgeable about the history of Tekken's characters (correct me if I'm wrong). therefore, your reasoning that characters in a computer game (most would refer to it as a console game) do not need individual pages is, to say the least, ill-informed. its an insult for all the people who pored their hard work into these pages and, for the most part, provided good information for you to vote to blanket delete them all, even if you think you're doing the right thing. please read the articles you are voting to delete next time (again, correct me if I'm wrong), because if you did, you would find a wealth of information there spanning 6 major games that could not possibly fit coherently on a single List page. if you are able to revert your vote for delete, i urge you to do so. Bubbachuck 23:44, 25 July 2005 (UTC)

It is my general position that individual pages for fictional characters, whether from novels, films, songs, or computer or console games are needed only when the character has become known in the wider world, beyond the fans of the particular fictional work or series of works. Thus there should be a page for
The Dark is Rising Sequence
. I am a confirmed mergist on ficional issues.
I was doing new page patrol when I saw several pages for Tekken characters coem through. All of them were stubs. Consistant with the ideas above, i nominated several for deletion. Then i saw the combined VfD that aosmone else had created, but had not properly linked to the pages it would affect. I linked it so that it could be propeerly discussed, adn the people intreested in those pages could see the proper place to express their views. My view remains that an annotated list could contain all the info that wikipedia neeeds on Tekken characters, and expanded pages could exist at a tekken wiki or game wiki on wikicities. This may not prove to be a consensus view. So be it. DES 14:16, 26 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]
I did, by the way look through every page that I nominated for deeltion or linked to a VfD vote. But my view is that no matter how wonderful and detailed these pages may be, they don't belong on wikipedia becasue they aren't notable outsiede the context of players and fans of this sereis of games. There is no reason for the "hard work" to be lost when wikicities exixts. DES 14:16, 26 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Soul Calibur-related stuff

I've been working hard on a major overhaul of your Yoshimitsu page, to make it more like the other Soul Calibur page. Now, that doesn't mean I choose sides between either Tekken or Soul Calibur, but that's beside the point. I know one of the featured policies of Wikipedia is

Hey, I've noticed that you recently made a List of Soul Calibur terms page. I have to be honest with you, though. I don't quite see why you don't just add these terms to List of fighting game terms and specify which terms apply only to Soul Calibur rather than create a new page. I only say this because many of the terms that you feature also apply to other fighting games as well, so their importance in the article has already been covered; and the few that aren't universal among fighting games aren't enough to justify a full article. Plus, there are other instances on List of fighting game terms in which the terms don't apply to every versus fighting game available, and I don't believe any other fighting game has it's own page. I'm only saying that we should follow precedent. When I was arguing for the justification for individualized character pages, there was already significant precedent for the affirmative. Here, there doesn't seem to be the same precedent although I haven't searched through all of Wikipedia to find such pages. Plus, I'm not sure I would even agree if one or two other fighting games had their own pages, as you can't really continually add to the pages, nullifying the expansion potential. I'm considering putting up a merger suggestion notice, but if I'm able to convince you, and you agree with me that it would make more sense to transfer everything over to List of fighting game terms, it wouldn't be necessary. Take care. --Shackleton 04:12, 10 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

  • If you really think you can make a whole article out of it, fine. But as it is, you're going to have to work fast and get it to full article status before somebody else--Such as users BradBeattie (sp?) or DES--comes along, sees its incompletion and decides to make a merger suggestion before me; and you know that most people would vote for the affirmative on that merger in the state the article is in now. I'll wait a month or two, but if it just isn't cutting it by then, then it will only indicate to me that the article will never get better, and I will probably put a merger suggestion notice then. Also, see my message below. --Shackleton 20:49, 10 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]
  • I read you. I have to study all next week but I'll add what I can when I'm bored of memorizing stuff...which hopefully for my sake will not be too often. -- Bubbachuck 21:43, 10 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, I was just writing to you to ask for your professional opinion on the newest message I've added to

List of Mortal Kombat characters, albeit slightly more descriptive. Then we can make a second page for miscellaneous Soul Calibur characters, although I don't know what the proper title for that would be. The entries included would of course be the eleven not receiving individualized pages. Tell me what you think. I'm going to ask a couple of other users as well. And also, good news, I got that vandal banned for forty-eight hours. Let's just hope he's not one of those resourceful people with IP addresses up the yinyan. Cheers, and good luck on the tests. --Shackleton 06:03, 16 August 2005 (UTC)[reply

on Copyvio tag

I don't know if you were aware, but your editings on the copyvio template made it stop working (you replaced the word url with an actual url, so everywhere the template was working stopped displaying the proper address and showed what you typed. Please don't do that again. <drini > 06:04, 12 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I actually haven't lived there. I just found the zipcode from dictionary.com. I don't have time to find the rest of the information on it now, as it is 3 AM here. Be my guest and delete it, I don't know why I posted that. Maybe I'll look up the info tomorrow. Thanks for the warning! I'm not going to do anything with it for a while, so if you want you can definitely delete it. --Elysianfields 07:19, 12 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

"nn" on AfD

Hi there,

Forgive me for asking such a newbie question, but what exactly does 'nn' on AfD mean? I have been doing a fair bit of editing on the Wikipedia but have only just started on AfD, and couldn't find any other reference for the term.. if you could leave a reply on my talk page that'd be great. :-)

Question

Image galleriesFrom your question, I suspect that
Wikipedia:Fair use
, you will see the following:

  • The amount of copyrighted work used should be as little as possible... Do not use multiple images or media clips if one will serve the purpose adequately.
  • The material must contribute significantly to the article (e.g. identify the subject of an article, or specifically illustrate relevant points or sections within the text) and must not serve a purely decorative purpose
  • The image or media description page must contain:
    • Proper attribution of the source of the material, and attribution of the copyright holder (if it is different) where possible.
    • An appropriate fair use tag indicating which Wikipedia policy provision permitting the use is claimed. A list of image tags can be found on the Wikipedia:Image_copyright_tags#Fair_use page.
    • For each article for which fair use is claimed, the name of the article and a "fair use rationale" as explained in Wikipedia:Image description page. The rationale must be presented in a manner that can be clearly understood and which is relevant to the article in question.

Providing an "image gallery" involving between eight and twenty images for every character in a video game series is, unfortunately, outside the bounds of Wikipedia guidelines. If you have further questions about this, you can ask them at

Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Fair use, where I originally asked what should be done with the articles and images. It spawned some conversation there, so you may be interested in the opinions that other editors expressed on these very articles. Jkelly 19:02, 16 November 2005 (UTC)[reply

Unspecified source for Image:Masterandcommanderposter_AF.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Masterandcommanderposter_AF.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{
