Categories in user space

Hi. I notice that you are working on an article in your

user page. Be careful not to include article categories in this article until it is actually moved to article space. Otherwise the category list will include your user page. Instead, you can enclose the category tags in comments, like this: <!-- [[Category:Argentine culture]] -->. That way, they are visible when you're editing your page, but they do not actually place your user page in the article list. Thanks, ... discospinster talk 17:40, 4 November 2007 (UTC)[reply

Important info about moving articles

First, welcome to Wikipedia! I see you've jumped right in with some your contributions relating to Argentina and its education system. Here are some resources you may find useful when editing Wikipedia:

Now, on to my (hopefully not too painful) complaining bit:

You've made a (pretty common) mistake regarding page moves. I noticed that you recently copied and pasted the contents of several articles to alternate page names. You should know that the best way to move (i.e. rename) an article is to use the "move" tab which is found at the top of every page. This allows the system to maintain an accurate record of the page's edit history. (See the "history" tab.)

A problem which you will now encounter is that one needs administrator privileges to move an article to another title which has already been created. Now that the pages where you wish to see the articles have been created, you will need to make a request at Wikipedia:Requested moves so that an administrator can perform them.

Before you do that, though, you should probably announce your plans at a public location such as

Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Universities or WikiProject Argentina
. Making such a large-scale change on your own may lead to ill-will from others who deal with this topic, and it might also be against some relevant Wikipedia conventions regarding names and language. Likely, there are people at these WikiProjects who know the relevant rules, and also administrators who can handle the page moves, if they are agreed on (and there will be no need to use the "requests" page.) You may also find these (or other) WikiProjects to be useful forums for working on your particular areas of interest, so have a look.

If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or ask your question on this page and then place {{helpme}} before the question. Again, welcome! --Eliyak T·C 11:41, 23 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi again Carau - sorry to have given such an "official warning" last time, but the debate at
WP:SFD which you took part in did result in an official decision to delete the stub type. As to proposing a stub type just for Argentinian National Universities later, it's unlikely to be supported - for stubbing, universities are usually split by country and then by region within a country (so if there were a large number of stubs for universities in Argentina, it might be split into six types, one for each region, for example GranChaco-university-stub). The only case where types of university are split out is when they teach specific subjects, like with seminary-stub. The rerason is that it is likely that editors who know about Argentina's universities in general are more likely overall to know about ones in a particular area (possibly where they live) rather univertsities across the whole country run by one organisation. In any case, there aren't likely to be enough stubs on Argentinian universities to need to split an Argentina-university-stub into subtypes. It's fine for a standard navigation category to be made for these universities - that would nopt require any proposal and would probably be a good idea - but stub categories work in a slightly different way because they are for a different purpose (standard categories are indended mainly for readers to find other related articles to get more information from - stub categories are designed mainly for editors looking to exapnd articles). Grutness...wha? 22:54, 21 July 2008 (UTC)[reply
]
Sure, that's fine. In most cases it's usual to split stubs into separate country categories once there are enough of them. Grutness...wha? 01:06, 28 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'm afraid I agree with the deletion, and I would further advise you not to take it personally, avoid blaming it on "authoritarianism" and least of all invoke the disappeared in reference to what was done to the article you created. It doesn't help your cause, and as a comparison it's completely tactless.

Wikipedia does not exist to promote new truths or discoveries or personal anecdotes that may point to new developments in society; it exists to report on things already known and well-documented. Argentish

I was very sorry to read your message at the deletion request page. First of all, I would like you to understand that, just like you, I'm trying to do what I think is best for Wikipedia. I do understand that you believe in what you wrote, but I'm affraid we are not understanding ourselves.

I believe you are mixing things when you say words like Peronism belong to a special sort of English language; it just doesn't, as the word Argentine is also not part of a dialect but a plain normal English demonym.

On the other hand, words like futbolista, basquetbolista, or even rugbier are again not part of an English/Argentine dialect, but they acually Spanished words with root-words taken or borrowed from English (football, basketball, rugby).

For this hipotetical Argentine English actually to exists, a [considerable] number of people should speak this it among themselves as a common language, what again is not the case. it is, simply put, a collection of common mistakes of Argentine people speaking English.

I trully hope you can understand this, and you can move on to contribute to a great number of Argentina-related articles that need help.

Have a nice day, Mariano(t/c) 11:51, 30 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Don't recreate deleted pages

Your reposting of a deleted page here has been reverted. As you are well aware, there has been ample time for you to make your case at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of fields of doctoral studies in Argentina, which even has been relisted once to allow proponents of this page to make their case. The last argument you made before the time was up was posting an unspecific external link, which was, as someone said, clearly a wild goose chase. This is not acceptable behavior. — Sebastian 08:40, 13 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, my last edition were Based on a truthfull List Of doctorates on an official site. I Want to recreate its just not fair I was working MEanwhile you suddenly deleted the page! Carau
Different that you I'm a really working man I work for live in a developing country only I can enjoy wikiedintigs on weekend.. very well acceptable behavior. Carau
I understand that it is a stressful experience when something one has been working on gets deleted. But we're a collaborative effort here; we have certain rules and procedures, and you can't just run amok when someone follows them. It doesn't help if you just revert the closure. Read the text of the template that I put on the AfD page; it tells you what you can do instead.
Do you really think you can win anyone's sympathy by repeatedly reverting them, and even deleting their posts on their own talk page? If you insist on having things your way then there is no future for you as an editor here. I could easily block you, if I wanted to. But I don't enjoy that; I still have some hope that, once you sleep over this, you can calm down. I therefore will not revert you, but instead I will give you a chance to undo your recent reverts and deletions of posts yourself. That would be a sign that you are willing to cooperate with other editors here in a respectful and constructive way. — Sebastian 09:30, 13 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Can I also add that it is a waste of time adding content to a AfD page after the discussion has been closed - firstly, it will be removed anyway; secondly, it is too late after a decision has been made! -- PhantomSteve/talk|contribs\ 15:23, 13 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Carau's last version of the article was taken from the headlines at http://www.me.gov.ar/spu/documentos/publicaciones/posgra99.pdf, pp 19ff. Does that address your concerns raised at that AfD discussion, Phantomsteve? — Sebastian 18:29, 13 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Well, I have a slight disadvantage in that I can't read Spanish! However, this appears to be a similar list to the kind of thing we see referenced at the American version. However, I would like to be able to see at least 3 years' worth of these reports to show that there is consistency. This shows that in the latest edition of "Guide Career Grade. Universities (National and Private) and University Institutes (National and Private) - 1998", published by the Ministry", these were the fields available. If it can be shown that these are a constant list of these fields (i.e. more than just that years' - with a similar list from a couple more years), then I feel that this would indeed address my concerns. I should just add that the notes for readers appears to say "The first chapter gives a presentation by field of study, Disciplines and Areas of Study, which was done solely for reasons of ordering information, as a postgraduate course could located in several areas and disciplines simultaneously." - I'm not sure if this means that the list is an official one, or not. -- PhantomSteve/talk|contribs\ 19:58, 13 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Stories are absolutely essential for any non-profit to persuade new people to support the cause, and we know the vast network of people who use Wikipedia have so much to share.

I find stories that drive our annual fundraising efforts. It's important to convey the incredible diversity of people who've come to rely upon Wikipedia every day.

I'd really like the opportunity to interview you to tell your story, with the possibility of using it in our materials, on our community websites, or as part of this year’s fundraiser to encourage others to support Wikipedia.

I will be in Buenos Aires from the 10th - 11th of March 2012.

I'm hoping you will elaborate on your story with me. Please let me know if you're inclined to take part in the Wikipedia Stories Project!

Thank you,

Victor Grigas

The article Social gravity has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

WP:OR
in its most simple and pure pathetic form

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be

deleted for any of several reasons
.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Latin American 10,000 Challenge invite

Hi. The

Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. At some stage we hope to run some contests to benefit Latin American content, a destubathon perhaps, aimed at reducing the stub count would be a good place to start, based on the current Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon. If you would like to see this happening for Latin America, and see potential in this attracting more interest and editors for the country/countries you work on please sign up and being contributing to the challenge! This is a way we can target every country of Latin America, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant!♦ --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 00:29, 27 October 2016 (UTC)[reply
