KhanzotChinev

Hey Cassiopeia, how are your injuries again? I hope it at least doesn't hurt as bad as it used to. Well, just wanted to know if you anything about this guy/girl "KhanzotChinev"? Why does s/he try to troll and act like a high-ranked user when s/he has got less than 100 edits? I saw that s/he wrote a "Welcome" message on your page, then told you to count to 5 if you were mad and that you weren't qualified to be on English Wikipedia due to the language not being your first (I think you're American, lol). Now s/he has been pretty annoying while editing

NPPS

Hi Cassiopeia, sorry to be bothering you with this. I was wondering whether you've had the chance to mark my final exam for the NPPS. I know it's a lot to mark, but I'd just be grateful for an update. Best, Modussiccandi (talk) 10:28, 30 November 2020 (UTC)

Request for CVU Training

Hello! I’m fairly new to Wikipedia (or at least I think I am anyway. I was looking through the methods of how to get actual Counter-Vandalism training under my belt, and read about how certain users were designated “trainers” who could teach newer users like myself about CV and the ins and outs of how to effectively perform it. I saw in the CVU trainer section that you had two spots available for trainees. If those spots are still available, I would love to be able to learn from you and eventually use those skills to help the Wikipedia community in a more productive way. I have a little experience in combating vandalism, but no formal training or instruction from any experienced CVU personnel. Please let me know if you have a spot open and are able to teach a new student a thing or two. Thank you, and I hope to hear back from you!

Sincerely, KW Kalariwarrior (talk) 06:22, 2 December 2020 (UTC)

Knockdowns

Hello Cassiopeia, I have a question that's been puzzling me for a while: when describing an MMA bout in a fighter's article, is it allowed to mention knockdowns in it? Regarding the recent Robert Whittaker vs. Jared Cannonier bout I described that despite knocking Cannonier down, Whittaker won the bout via unanimous. It was reverted with message "doesn't follow" (follow what?), but I cannot find anything regarding describing bouts verbosely at least from here Articles about mixed martial artists. In boxer articles the bouts are very verbosely described, and in my humble opinion the knockdowns play pretty significant role in MMA also. Ticelon (talk) 16:17, 2 December 2020 (UTC)

Cassiopeia Thanks for the reply. Sorry if I placed my words wrong, the sentence could be interpreted that you reverted the change but it was Nedochan, here is the link. The referenced article outright says it "Cannonier stumbled to the cage and Whittaker knocked him down with punches." Anyway thanks for the lining, I'll continue elaborating the bouts with knockdown notes where they are significant and I have references to them. And thanks for taking note on my work, I'm trying my best to improve articles with emphasis on older fighters and their team timelines, backgrounds etc :) you're making excellent work yourself also! Post-block

Hello Cassiopeia, I wanted to thank you for your efforts on helping me out, despite me not being a white sheep on the discussion. That is in the past now and if taken the right approach it will only help me for the future. I already apologized to KhanzotChinev and asked him if he wants to civilly discuss the content at

PabloLikesToWrestle
Good day and welcome back. There are many content disputes in MMA fighters' pages especially among new editors and I have mediated a number of the disputes. We are all here to improve and work on the article, and to help and support each other is what we all do. I might not explain well last time, so let me explain again as there is a different between being civil and being NPOV (neutral point of view) - see the different below.
  1. Writing the content of the article - we need to write the content in a
    WP:PUFF
    words/phrases.
  2. Talking to other editors in talk pages - we communicate in a civil manner, without personal attacks and comment on the content and not the editors.
Do write to me if you have any questions or need any help for anything if you are not sure. For things that you are not sure of, pls wait for me to reply before further actions/edit the page. Stay safe and best.

HurricaneTracker495's participation in CVUA

It is my opinion that their continued participation in CVUA needs to be reconsidered. On their talk page, multiple editors have expressed concerns that (to be brief) they are diving too deep, too early, into the administrative areas of the project, in particular overly bitey behavior towards a new user. This was a recent example of them giving wrong advice (CheckUser cannot by itself be used to determine if two users are two people who know each other). This doesn't give me confidence that they are ready to go into counter-vandalism just yet, and thus my advice was for them to stay out of counter-vandalism or other patrolling and stick to just content creation, but since my message they have continued patrolling.--Jasper Deng (talk) 02:44, 6 December 2020 (UTC)

I wouldn’t consider countervandalism quite like that. Yes, sometimes I do get overly harsh when I can’t tell but when the fog is clear, I can tell. Maybe I only revert blatant vandalism and not good faith edits? HurricaneTracker495 (talk) 03:02, 6 December 2020 (UTC)
I will leave that up to Cassiopeia, as they are taking up a
And that’s something I am most likely going to learn in CVUA. Please don’t discourage me from doing it, and instead encourage my instructor to go over it. HurricaneTracker495 (talk) 13:44, 6 December 2020 (UTC)
@Jasper Deng and HurricaneTracker495: Good day.
Jasper, thank you for bringing this to my attention - appreciate it. I can see the reason why you wrote to me. Upon checking on HurricaneTracker495's talk page, I have to say it surprised me that so many complains and number of communication happened in one day.
Jasper Deng and HurricaneTracker495, I have come across many participants who have behaved a lot worse that of HurricaneTracker495's, where their request to participate in CUVA or NPPS were declined or removed mid way into the programs. The issue here is that HurricaneTracker495 has simply gone ahead of themselves as the new editor in Wikipedia where they put themselves in so many predicaments by wrongly interpret the policies, placed unnecessary warning templates and among others. To know the basic Wikipedia guidelines do take time let alone to apply them correctly. We all were new editors once and we remember the long steep learning curve, like a herculean task, when we started editing Wikipedia. If we seek help, willing to listen to the advice from more experience editors and mentors, take our time and edit constructively, we surely learn eventually.
HurricaneTracker495, In Wikipedia, we have certain guidelines that we follow and certain norm which editors should adhere to. Unlike in the cooperate world where I used to work, in Wikipedia we try to educate and support other editors when they need help and deter editors who trying to harm Wikipedia, as such communication is a big factor among editors and we usually would take the advice of the experienced editors. The edit made by User Casiotone Nation was not an test edit, non constructive nor conform with our policies and guidelines. Not doubt secondary sources are adviced to be used to support the claim but in certain circumstances primary source can be used. User Casiotone Nation mainly move the citation from body text to the infobox and resued source. Every editor makes mistakes, including I and we apology when we noticed/have been informed by other editors of our errors. I have apologies my mistakes many times in counter vandalism work especially when I made the edit/revert a little too fast which I should not have. Pls apology to User Casiotone Nation in their talk page and in your talk page to smooth things over, to settle the issue. You can participate in CUVA and learn some basic counter vandalism work via CUVA under guardian and mentor would help your better than you learn it by yourself; however, with the conditions that (1) you would stop reverting / placing warning templates in editors' pages, (2) stop reporting or raising issue in

HurricaneTracker495 mentoring

Hiya. Just a note that I've offered to mentor HurricaneTracker495. I'm hoping to help them work more positively with other editors, and to focus on the areas that they are strongest in and most interested in. I'm hoping to mainly be a friendly face that they can ask questions to, and don't intend for it to conflict with your CVUA work - but let me know if you have any concerns or want to talk through. Best, Darren-M talk 23:06, 7 December 2020 (UTC)

@HurricaneTracker495 and Darren-M: Good day Darren-M, Thank you for informing that you have offered to mentor HurricaneTracker495. It is very kind and supportive of you to do that. There is no conflict between us if HurricaneTracker495 choose to accept my conditions to be their trainer.
HurricaneTracker495, I saw further comments by other admin and editors on your talk page. Some of them I have dealt with on the past such as admin GeneralNotability (formal user name is Creffett) was my CUVA trainee who graduated from CUVA program six months ago and became admin the following month. All of them who commented on your talk page are actually trying to advise you to step back from editing on area which you are not yet quite familiar with. Take me as the example, I am more conservative than most editors, some CUVA trainers have 5 or 10k counter vandalism edits and would think they are ready to be CUVA trainers, but for myself I became CUVA trainer after I have 30K counter vandalism edits and became NPPS trainer after 120K edits. I am not saying you should make thousands of thousands of edits before editing in the areas of your interest, for every editor have different capacity of understanding the guidelines and their application and some of them would make a better judgmental call then the others but all I am saying is that take your time to learn first before venturing into some complicated areas of the encyclopedia. Stay safe and best.
I hear you it's that yes, reverting certain things is complicated but reverting blatantly unhelpful edits shouldn't be. --HurricaneTracker495 (talk) 16:17, 8 December 2020 (UTC)

I'm a professional actress in the film Under The Stadium Lights. I am one of the main actors in this film. It didn't list me in the article when I found it, so I edited it. But when I did, it linked to the wrong person, an Irish poet named Bridget Fitzgerald. Can you please help me figure out how to fix? Thanks and best wishes! New Page Patrol December Newsletter

Hello Cassiopeia,

A chart of the 2020 New Page Patrol Queue

Year in review

It has been a productive year for New Page Patrol as we've roughly cut the size of the New Page Patrol queue in half this year. We have been fortunate to have a lot of great work done by Rosguill who was the reviewer of the most pages and redirects this past year. Thanks and credit go to JTtheOG and Onel5969 who join Rosguill in repeating in the top 10 from last year. Thanks to John B123, Hughesdarren, and Mccapra who all got the NPR permission this year and joined the top 10. Also new to the top ten is DannyS712 bot III, programmed by DannyS712 which has helped to dramatically reduce the number of redirects that have needed human patrolling by patrolling certain types of redirects (e.g. for differences in accents) and by also patrolling editors who are on on the

Reviewer of the Year

John B123 has been named reviewer of the year for 2020. John has held the permission for just over 6 months and in that time has helped cut into the queue by reviewing more than 18,000 articles. His talk page shows his efforts to communicate with users, upholding NPP's goal of nurturing new users and quality over quantity.

NPP Technical Achievement Award

As a special recognition and thank you DannyS712 has been awarded the first NPP Technical Achievement Award. His work programming the bot has helped us patrol redirects tremendously - more than 60,000 redirects this past year. This has been a large contribution to New Page Patrol and definitely is worthy of recognition.

CVU Training Request - TWA Completed

Hello again! I'm not quite sure if you remember me, but a little over a week ago, I asked if I could receive instruction from you to become part of the CVU. You asked me to complete the TWA program, and then contact you again. I have completed the TWA program, and, if a spot is still open and you're still willing, I'd love to be taught about counter vandalism from you. Thanks, and I hope to hear back from you soon! CVU Academy Training

Hello! I'd like to join the Counter-Vandalism Unit Academy, and I noticed that you were one of the available trainers from the list. I've been doing some recent changes patrolling for vandals myself, but I feel that I'm too rash at making decisions and that I may lack enough guidance. I live in UTC +07:00 so I don't think that time zones would be an issue. Looking forward to your reply, thanks! Fehufanga (talk) 23:41, 12 December 2020 (UTC)
