Thanks for your e-mails
Hi David, thanks for your recent e-mails. Generally speaking, I prefer on-wiki communication - it makes it easier to keep everything in the same place - please feel free to drop a note on my talk page any time to ask questions (as you just did!).
I appreciate that you are eager to make your artwork available publicly. In your e-mails, you mentioned 'Creative Commons', which is a type of licence that you can release your work under - I wonder whether you meant Wikimedia Commons? If that is what you were referring to, you can find guidelines about uploading files here, and tips for whether your work would be of benefit to the project here. If I'm honest (and I genuinely don't want to be a jerk about this), I don't really see why your work would be of benefit to the project - there aren't currently any articles that it would usefully illustrate, and the starting point for that would be reliable, secondary sources discussing the work, rather than images of it. However, you should be the judge of that - go ahead and read the guidelines and see what you think.
If it's not Wikimedia Commons you were referring to, and you were actually talking about releasing your work under a Creative Commons license, then I'm not sure that would help. The issue with the images was not just the copyright/licensing, it was also that it was not clear how they were relevant to the project.
To give you an example of what I'm talking about, when I'm not working on
I hope this all makes sense - do by all means read through the links I gave you above, and come to your own determination about whether you should upload your work - but remember that anything we do here should be to further the interests of the encyclopedia (to which we are all but lowly worker bees), not to promote ourselves.
As a final thought - while I'm not sure that your images are what the project needs, I am certain that your professional expertise would be! You are a professor of chemistry, and we have a whole host of articles about chemistry, and science in general - your input into that part of the project would, I am sure, be very welcome indeed. Thanks for uploading or contributing to
If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified the non-free rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described in section F6 of the criteria for speedy deletion.
