re: Question

I hadn't seen your question until after I'd also posted on the user's page. I've been convinced for a while now there's an issue here. I eventually emailed [email protected] on Friday but, as yet, haven't heard anything back. Not even a rejection of my request - which is a bit disappointing. To me, this looks like classic SP activity. I guess it does you, too. Time may tell. Cheers, Nick Moyes (talk) 14:19, 5 November 2023 (UTC)

@Nick Moyes: yeah, if I were a betting man, my money would be on SP. Although I would probably put a secondary bet on a misguided young person treating this place as a playground or social media platform of some sort. -- DoubleGrazing (talk) 14:31, 5 November 2023 (UTC)
Hi, sorry to get in your business, but as someone who's been using this school IP for a while, I've seen this way too many times. Anotaomo is probably a kid who's too young for Wikipedia. 131.156.56.55 (talk) 15:56, 6 November 2023 (UTC)

Draft: Napoli Comicon

Hi, I have to strongly disagree with you on the review that you gave to the page. I put lots of reliable sources like Corriere della Sera, Repubblica and Fumettologica (three big outlets) and the sources that directs to Napoli Comicon's website are the ones about dates or the history of the festival, not its relevance (look at the page of Etna Comics: it has less notes a from sites that are not as relevant or reliable as the ones that I put in Comicon's page - there's a note in Etna Comics page that directs to Meganerd, which is basically a fansite). You have to take in account also the quality of the references, not only the quantity. Conte Grievous (talk) 13:41, 7 November 2023 (UTC)

Hi @Conte Grievous: for basic verifiability purposes, information needs to be reliably referenced. That can include close primary sources, within reason (meaning, not too extensively, and only to support non-contentious factual information), but when 70% of the citations are to the organisation's own website and Facebook feed, and the majority of the information in the draft is supported only by such close primary sources, that's no longer within reason. We are not interested in what the organisation in question wants to say about itself, we're interested in what independent secondary sources have said. Since you have found some secondary sources, I suggest you rewrite this by summarising their coverage, and limit the use of close primary sources to the bare minimum. Draft:Alice in Wonderland (Neuschwanstein album)

Dear DoubleGrazing,

thank you very much for your quick and comprehensive explanation.

In German, there is no such detailed distinction between "rejected" and "declined".

I have removed the two sources from Blogspot and Wordpress. As for Discogs, I honestly don't know what the problem is. In my citations, I refer to scans of the booklets belonging to the respective CDs. These scans are absolutely objective and reputable. What is supposed to be non-reliable about them? Unfortunately, there is no other way to refer to these booklets, as there is no other database that makes the contents of the booklets available. The only possibility would be to treat the booklets like a literature source. Would that be a solution?

You write at the end that not all sections are referenced. You list the first three ones and additionally the infobox as not referenced. This is not correct. In my last version of the draft, however, this is exactly the case.

As far as the info box is concerned, however, I am more than surprised. Since when does the infobox have to be referenced? I have looked at several infoboxes from different albums. Nowhere did I find a referencing of these. So what exactly do you mean?

Best regards -- Mondra Diamond (talk) 09:03, 8 November 2023 (UTC)

Hi @Mondra Diamond,
Regarding the infobox, per
WP:INFOBOXREF
it doesn't need to be referenced, if it repeats information that is included and referenced elsewhere. So if you don't want to add cites into the infobox (which indeed would be sub-optimal), you need to ensure that the same information is referenced in the main body.
Other than that, I'm not entirely sure what I can do to help? You're of course welcome to resubmit the draft if you're confident that there are no remaining issues. Maybe another reviewer will be prepared to overlook the referencing. In any case, you'll at least get a second opinion. Best, -- DoubleGrazing (talk) 09:22, 8 November 2023 (UTC)
What do you think of the idea already mentioned above to list the booklet texts as literature sources instead of the links to Discogs and the booklet scans shown there? -- Mondra Diamond (talk) 13:37, 8 November 2023 (UTC)
@Mondra Diamond: that could work; I seem to remember reading somewhere that album covers and booklets are acceptable sources to support non-contentious information such as track listings, contributor names, etc. (Whether the fair-use policy on album artwork allows that, I don't know.) -- DoubleGrazing (talk) 13:51, 8 November 2023 (UTC)
@DoubleGrazing: Yes, that works! There is a template called "Cite AV media notes" that does it. Best, -- Mondra Diamond (talk) 16:27, 8 November 2023 (UTC)
Hi @DoubleGrazing! Finally the article is now published! Thanks a lot for your help and ideas to optimize „Alice in Wonderland“. There must be more of you in the WP community! Best regards — Mondra Diamond (talk) 06:41, 9 November 2023 (UTC)
@Mondra Diamond: haha, you'd be forgiven for thinking I hindered more than helped! :) Anyway, I'm glad it has been published, and well done to you for getting it over the line! Best, -- DoubleGrazing (talk) 06:45, 9 November 2023 (UTC)

Article Draft Declined

Dear Wikipedia Editors, I hope this letter finds you well. I am writing to bring to your attention the absence of a Wikipedia page for Hindu Public School located in Sanath Nagar, Hyderabad, India. Hindu Public School is the largest educational institution in Sanath Nagar, and I believe that creating a dedicated Wikipedia page for the school is essential to provide accurate and comprehensive information to the public. Hindu Public School has been a cornerstone of education in the community, contributing significantly to the intellectual and cultural growth of its students. Despite its prominent position, the school is currently not represented on Wikipedia, and this absence is a disservice to those seeking reliable information about educational institutions in Sanath Nagar. I am eager to contribute to the Wikipedia community by creating and maintaining a well-researched and unbiased page for Hindu Public School. I have gathered extensive information about the school, including its history, notable achievements, faculty, and the impact it has had on the local community. My intention is to ensure that the Wikipedia page adheres to all guidelines and standards set by Wikipedia. However, I have encountered challenges in getting the page approved. I understand the importance of Wikipedia's policies and guidelines in maintaining the quality and reliability of information on the platform. I am committed to meeting these standards and request your approval to create the Wikipedia page for Hindu Public School. To facilitate the approval process, I am open to any guidance or feedback from the Wikipedia editing community. I am confident that with your support, we can create a valuable resource that accurately reflects the contributions of Hindu Public School to education in Sanath Nagar. Thank you for considering my request. I look forward to your positive response and the opportunity to contribute to the Wikipedia community.Draft:Hindu Public School Sanathnagar Rutvik888 (talk) 11:39, 12 November 2023 (UTC)

Companion Volume to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages

Hi. We are surprised by your comments. Firstly, our submission is supported by 33 references (academic books and journals) and 8 footnotes incl. sources. Secondly, our submission is not written in the style of an advertisement. We are the official translators of the CEFR-CV into German. In this role, we have not only read every line and sentence of it but also referred back to the Council of Europe's authoring team whenever a point did not seem clear to us. Our intention is to give a balanced overview of the new CEFR-Companion Volume without neglecting critical appraisals. You may be interested to know that we submitted a similar article to the German Wikipedia, which was accepted and published without changes. The reason why we are submitting this here is that an adequate entry in English is missing. We would appreciate, therefore, if you or someone else from the Wikipedia-team re-read our submission and - if necessary - be more specific with respect to points in need of improvement. Thanks. Rcjqffm (talk) 09:54, 16 November 2023 (UTC)

Courtesy link: Draft:Companion Volume to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages
Hi @Rcjqffm,
I think you may have got the wrong reviewer. I didn't decline this draft. I only commented on it, asking why are there those [edit] tags in the headings, as if it has been copypasted from somewhere? But now that you're here, perhaps you can answer that?
A few other points, based on what you say:
  • Wikipedia user accounts are strictly for use by a single individual. If you represent a team, as it would appear, you will need to set up separate accounts for each team member involved in editing Wikipedia.
  • You also almost certainly have some type of conflict of interest (COI), at the very least a general one, and quite possibly a special paid-editing one. This needs to be formally disclosed. (And if you do set up separate user accounts, each of them needs to make the disclosure.)
  • Whether or not the German-language Wikipedia has accepted an article on this subject says, in and of itself, nothing about whether the English-language one will, as each language version is an entirely separate project with their own guidelines and policies. I'm not saying this draft couldn't be accepted here, only that this will depend on factors which do not include prior acceptance into the German-language Wikipedia.
Best, -- DoubleGrazing (talk) 10:11, 16 November 2023 (UTC)
Hi and thanks for specifying your questions.
I did, indeed, copypaste the text from a Word-file, unaware that this would leave particular tags. Should/could I remove these?
The account is on me alone. By "We" I mean Jürgen Quetz and myself, who together translated the CEFR-CV into German. Since Jürgen is physically handicapped, I am doing the "handwork", while we communicate closely on all content matters.
We do not have any COI. We are not commissioned or paid by anyone. Neither are we the authors of the CEFR-CV or writing on behalf of the Council of Europe. Our sole motivation is to update Wikipedia content on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages and provide a reliabel overview of the Council of Europe's new "Companion Volume" (2020). This information has been missing so far.
By referring to the German-language Wikipedia I meant to say that we have considered all their compliance issues, which are identical with the English-language Wikipedia's. I am, of course, aware that the English-language Wikipedia is a separate project.
Do let me know if there is anything else I can do or provide.
Thanks! Rcjqffm (talk) 09:29, 17 November 2023 (UTC)
@Rcjqffm: okay, thanks for clarifying; I have accordingly removed the COI tag from the draft. -- DoubleGrazing (talk) 09:48, 17 November 2023 (UTC)

Draft:BBS Terefayina
@Namunyala: are you seriously telling me that you wrote a passage like "mandated to create and engender informative, educative, entertaining and cultural content across all genres of customers through the different platforms while keeping in mind the changing needs and trends in the industry" entirely on your own, and the fact that an external source has that same phrase is purely coincidental? Really?
And yes, you did do it again, because right after I had removed it, you added it straight back.
This draft may be accepted eventually, but only when it is ready for publication. -- DoubleGrazing (talk) 09:44, 19 November 2023 (UTC)

When responding to a Wikipedia curator who has declined your submission, it's crucial to address their concerns clearly and respectfully, while also highlighting the improvements made. Here's a suggested response:

Dear DoubleGrazing,

Thank you for your feedback on our recent submission. We understand your concerns regarding insufficient inline citations and the use of non-reliable sources, as initially pointed out by McMatter. In response to these issues, we have taken several steps to improve the quality of our submission:

  1. Refinement of Citations: We carefully reviewed our sources and removed redundant citations, focusing on retaining only those that are most relevant and impactful. This action was guided by the WP:REFBOMB guidelines, ensuring our references are concise yet sufficient.
  2. Reliable National Media Sources: We have kept citations from highly reputable national media outlets like TVN and Radio ESKA, which are among the biggest broadcasters in Poland. These sources provide credible and authoritative information relevant to our topic.
  3. Inclusion of International Sources: To bolster the submission's credibility, we have added notable international sources such as Earmilk and OK Magazine. These additions bring a global perspective and are recognized for their reliability and journalistic integrity.
  4. Removal of YouTube Links: Acknowledging your advice on the reliability of sources, we have entirely removed all YouTube links from our submission. We understand that while YouTube can be a rich source of information, it does not always meet the rigorous standards required for Wikipedia references.

We believe these changes address the concerns raised in the earlier decline and enhance the overall quality and reliability of our submission. We hope that these improvements align with Wikipedia's standards and look forward to your reassessment.

Thank you for your time and consideration. 2A02:A31A:4046:FF80:B9AD:9A7E:90B1:DB8A (talk) 12:12, 19 November 2023 (UTC)

Draft:List of rebuilt diesel locomotives - Wikipedia

I'm not sure what you meant on the comment, I had read the comment hundreds of times and I still don't understand it. Unless if you were asking me to add rebuilt locomotives outside the USA, because if that's the case I believe that, and I have added rebuilt diesels in the UK and as far as France. Plus, the "Is this really all of them?" element of the comment, I would like to clarify that this was done for ones that have good references on order for it can get past the GNG 118.210.56.198 (talk) 09:08, 20 November 2023 (UTC)

What I'm saying is that it is quite US-centric to present this as a definitive listing, unless it is in fact the case that these things only exist in the USA, and there only the ones listed in this draft. So in my (entirely non-expert) opinion, either a narrower scope needs to be defined (in the narrative and article title), or else the content should be expanded to include other countries as well. -- DoubleGrazing (talk) 09:38, 20 November 2023 (UTC)

I haven't done it myself simply because as my first step I wanted to share the information with you in case it's helpful to your work. If it's not of use to you, no problem. And sure, as a second step I could let the previously-involved SPI editors/admins know. FWIW am semi-retired and in no great hurry. Cheers, -Roberthall7 (talk) 13:32, 24 November 2023 (UTC)

@Sohom Datta: no specific concerns, no; I just don't like both accepting and patrolling a new article, unless it's a complete no-brainer.
