User:Eejit43/scripts/article-cleaner
Hi, Eejit43! Wanted to ask if you can make this script support mobile editing. The Minerva skin on mobile is quite different from the one on desktop. If, you would like to check Mobile Minerva desktop, please add .m
after en
in the URL. Thanks! OPHYRIUS ⚔ 11:32, 24 June 2025 (UTC)
- Hello! Thank you for your feature request. For some reason I thought that Minerva still showed the toolbar where the functionality is held in edit mode, but obviously that is not the case. I'll dig into this later today and try to find a solution! ~ Eejit43 (talk) 19:20, 24 June 2025 (UTC)
- @Ophyrius after many, many hours of bugfixes and head scratching, I've finally implemented this. On mobile there is now a new toolbar button that activates article-cleaner. Please let me know if you experience any issues with this! ~ Eejit43 (talk) 02:21, 25 June 2025 (UTC)
- Thanks for implementing it! But, it's not working yet. A box with tick is appearing along side the publish button, which does nothing when clicked. OPHYRIUS ⚔ 08:51, 25 June 2025 (UTC)
- I tested it in vector & there are a few things it shouldn't have done. First, it removes
''
from inside the links and places them outside. Second issue is that it does this
. Is there any reason why it's doing that? OPHYRIUS ⚔ 09:22, 25 June 2025 (UTC)− [[word|words]]+ [[word]]s- Hm, I am not experiencing issues with the box not functioning. What browser/operating system are you using?
- Now, in regards to the issues you mentioned, the latter is intentional. That optimizes the links to remove unnecessary redundancy. The former issue is definitely not intentional, and I will fix that later today. ~ Eejit43 (talk) 13:54, 25 June 2025 (UTC)
- This issue with italics has now been resolved. I would recommend purging your cache and then retrying the script. ~ Eejit43 (talk) 14:00, 25 June 2025 (UTC)

- Not only were your words "too harsh", they were incredibly inappropriate. The template in question is protected due to previous disruptive editing. Calling ASD a "mental illness" is not appropriate, and your usage of the term was incredibly inappropriate. I hope you are able to educate yourself and use appropriate language in the future. ~ Eejit43 (talk) 19:48, 24 June 2025 (UTC)

article cleaner issue (probably related to thumbnail images in infobox)
I've used the article cleaner a lot (great tool btw) and it has never really failed on me except for a recent edit where it broke up the infobox in the article. I'm not entirely sure what went wrong or where the bug lies but you as the author of the tool might have an idea. Laura240406 (talk) 17:14, 3 July 2025 (UTC)
- I'm glad you've found the tool helpful! There's certainly been a couple of times where I've gone to clean up and article only to find that no changes needed to be made as you cleaned it up before! :)
- Thank you for reporting this issue, I'll investigate it later this afternoon. I agree, I suspect it to be some issue with the thumbnail image, likely due to it having a
ref
tag in it. I'll let you know once I get to the bottom of it! ~ Eejit43 (talk) 17:23, 3 July 2025 (UTC)- @Laura240406 This has now been resolved, though in a bit of a roundabout way. The script now maintains the original content of
image
(and similar) parameters in a comment following the new content, if it contains extra information. Ideally the user would catch that this is being removed and add size/caption parameters if needed, but this should help it be better noticed. I may revisit this change in the future. - Anyhow, this has a side affect of resolving that issue, which occurred due to the way I wrote the code to handle nested templates being broken after the templates were removed. Please let me know if you have any further issues! :) ~ Eejit43 (talk) 03:25, 4 July 2025 (UTC)
