Welcome to Wikipedia!

Welcome FilmCostumes!
Hello FilmCostumes. Welcome to Wikipedia and thank you for your contributions!

I'm Scope creep, one of the other editors here, and I hope you decide to stay and help contribute to this amazing repository of knowledge.

Some pages of helpful information to get you started:
  Introduction to Wikipedia
  The five pillars of Wikipedia
  Editing tutorial
  How to edit a page
  Simplified Manual of Style
  The basics of Wikicode
  How to develop an article
  How to create an article
  Help pages
  What Wikipedia is not
Some common sense Dos and Don'ts:
  Do be bold
  Do assume good faith
  Do be civil
  Do keep cool!
Do maintain a neutral point of view
  Don't spam
  Don't infringe copyright
Don't edit where you have a conflict of interest
  Don't commit vandalism
  Don't get blocked
If you need further help, you can:
  Ask a question
or you can:
  Get help at the Teahouse
or even:
Ask an experienced editor to "adopt" you

Alternatively, leave me a message at my talk page or type {{Help me}} here on your talk page and someone will try to help.

There are many ways you can contribute to Wikipedia. Here are a few ideas:
  Fight vandalism
Be a WikiFairy or a WikiGnome
  Help contribute to articles
  Perform maintenance tasks

Become a member of a project that interests you
  Help design new templates
Subscribe and contribute to The Signpost
Translate articles from Wikipedias in other languages

To get some practice editing you can use a sandbox. You can create your own personal sandbox for use any time. It's perfect for working on bigger projects. Then for easy access in the future, you can put {{My sandbox}} on your user page. By the way, seeing as you haven't created a user page yet, simply click here to start it.

Please remember to:

  • Always sign your posts on talk pages. You can do this either by clicking on the button on the edit toolbar or by typing four tildes ~~~~ at the end of your post. This will automatically insert your signature, a link to your talk page, and a timestamp.
  • Leave descriptive edit summaries for your edits. Doing so helps other editors understand what changes you have made and why you made them.
The best way to learn about something is to experience it. Explore, learn, contribute, and don't forget to have some fun!

Hello,
Thanks for the review - I have removed the table as I cannot fix it without help! And added in more references and citations. Hopefully this is enough?

Hello FilmCostumes. The nature of your edits gives the impression you have an undisclosed financial stake in promoting a topic, but you have not complied with Wikipedia's mandatory paid editing disclosure requirements. Paid advocacy is a category of conflict of interest (COI) editing that involves being employed (or being compensated in any way) by a person, group, company or organization to promote their interests. Paid advocacy on Wikipedia must be disclosed even if you have not specifically been asked to edit Wikipedia. Undisclosed paid advocacy is prohibited by our policies on neutral point of view and what Wikipedia is not, and is an especially serious type of COI; the Wikimedia Foundation regards it as a "black hat" practice akin to black-hat search-engine optimization.

Paid advocates are strongly discouraged from direct article editing, and should instead propose changes on the talk page of the article in question if an article exists. If the article does not exist, paid advocates are strongly discouraged from attempting to write an article at all. At best, any proposed article creation should be submitted through the articles for creation process, rather than directly.

Regardless, if you are receiving or expect to receive compensation for your edits, broadly construed, you are required by the Wikimedia Terms of Use to disclose your employer, client and affiliation. You can post such a mandatory disclosure to your user page at User:FilmCostumes. The template {{Paid}} can be used for this purpose – e.g. in the form: {{paid|user=FilmCostumes|employer=InsertName|client=InsertName}}. If I am mistaken – you are not being directly or indirectly compensated for your edits – please state that in response to this message. Otherwise, please provide the required disclosure. In either case, do not edit further until you answer this message.
As a research fellow in this arena your status is complex. However, I believe that the fullest possible transparency is important. Its feels to me that being a research fellow as declared on your user page is suggestive of a benefit received from creating articles here. While I have no intention of discouraging you, your attention to this area is important, please.

Hello,
I am happy to confirm that I have no financial stake in promoting this topic, and I receive no financial benefit from the subjects of the articles I am creating and editing. I am an academic researcher in the area of film history and costume history, and my wikipedia work is driven by a desire to improve visibility of costume work in the wider public realm. I am not employed by, or benefitting from, any costume house, costume designer or maker. FilmCostumes (talk) 11:29, 20 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion nomination of Vin Burnham

Hello FilmCostumes,

I wanted to let you know that I just tagged Vin Burnham for deletion, because it's a redirect from an article title to a namespace that's not for articles.

If you don't want Vin Burnham to be deleted, you can contest this deletion, but don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions. Thanks!

  • When creating biographies, don't forget to use Template:DEFAULTSORT.
Accessible from "Wiki markup" at the foot of the page being edited,
it allows categories to be listed under the subject's family name rather than their first or given name.
