You may request a change of username and unblock if you intend to make useful contributions instead of promoting your business or organization. To do this, first search

username policy
. Once you have found an acceptable username, post the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with your new username and replace the text "Your reason here" with your reasons to be unblocked. In your reasons, you must:

  • Disclose any compensation you may receive for your contributions in accordance with the paid-contribution disclosure requirement.
  • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the kind of edits for which you were blocked.
  • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
Appeals: If, after reviewing the guide to appealing blocks, you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal it by adding the text {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your reason here" with the reasons you believe the block was an error, and publish the page. Salvio 19:35, 7 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, I am just editing in the sandbox. I was not ready to publish. That was a draft. I am trying to actually talk about the work of mentoring for children. Can you unblock so I can continue to edit in my sandbox? I wasn't just trying to promote my organization. FriendsMarketing (talk) 19:51, 7 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Receiving no compensation. Just wanting to ensure my nonprofit has a wikipedia page. I understand that it seemed promotional, but I wasn't ready to publish outside of the sandbox. I was going to spend the next few days editing and taking out any editorializing and putting in more data. Friends of the Children has an important history in changing systemic poverty in the US FriendsMarketing (talk) 19:57, 7 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Decline reason:

I guess your new username technically meets policy, but something more individualistic would be better. Your username contains "marketing"; you are not paid for this? Mere employment counts as paid editing, you do not need to be specifically paid to edit or instructed to edit. The parts of the encyclopedia are referred to as articles, not pages. This is a subtle but important distinction. All edits to every type of page on Wikipedia (articles, policy pages, sandboxes) appear in the Recent Changes feed. If you don't want people to see what you are doing, it shouldn't be on Wikipedia. Sandboxes are not immune from deletion processes. Please read
conflict of interest and tell how your edits will be consistent with that policy, as well as any other topics you might edit about as a general contributor. I am declining your request. 331dot (talk) 20:58, 7 November 2022 (UTC)[reply

Request reason:

I had requested a new username. I don't think the challenge was the sandbox it was the name of my account yes? Again, the oringinal username request was based on our nonprofit email structure. I've tried to be more specific with the new requested username. Can you let me know if it works? I appreciate your help. I read the articles today prior to beginning my work--I think my flub was on choosing a name just based on the nonprofit org structure.

Decline reason:

No, your username was only part of the problem. Yamla (talk) 11:47, 25 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

In case it isn't clear to you, your organization isn't entitled to have a Wikipedia article

worthy cause
is irrelevant. We have no interest in what an organization wishes to say about itself.

Writing about your own organization is an inherent

conflict of interest. If that is your only intention for being on Wikipedia, then your account is unlikely to be unblocked. However, if you would still like to contribute to other topics unrelated to your organization, please describe what those topics would be. --Drm310 🍁 (talk) 06:31, 8 November 2022 (UTC)[reply

Thank you so much for this clarification--it's helpful. The first page I began on Friends of the Children is just one page I would likely create and/or contribute to. I would like to change my username to: "YouthLongtermMentoring" and I would also contribute on other topics related to youth mentoring including: foster care, Indigenous Communities, the Oglala Sioux (Lakota) tribe, mental health issues related to youth, generational poverty, the juvenile justice system, equity, gun violence, government programs related to youth, the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention, and under-served communities. And when it comes to Friends of the Children, the organization has had independent and significant coverage by the Stanford Social Innovation Review, the New York Times, the Associated Press, Forbes, The Chicago Tribune, CBS News, USA Today and more. The organization has a unique place in the ecosystem for youth that includes the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Boys and Girls Club of America, and the Surgeon General. Thanks for your consideration. FriendsMarketing (talk) 14:22, 8 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
