"KIOL Is dead"

I am the one that made KHJK redirect to the KIOL-FM article, because at the time, Jack was still using the old KIOL call letters. I'll start working on a KHJK article a.s.a.p; because as of today they are using KHJK as their call letters. --KVST was actually originally on 99.7 FM in Conroe, but simulcast on 103.7 for the Houston area. KVST is still in operation north of houston on 99.7 FM, so it technically isn't defunct. I'll see what can be done, though. Big texas lump 00:21, 9 September 2007 (UTC)

University of Houston

There is only ONE campus of the University of Houston. The University of Houston is part of the University of Houston System, which includes three other freestanding (independent) universities.

There are four separate universities (not campuses) of the University of Houston System:

  • University of Houston (UH)
  • University of Houston–Clear Lake (UHCL)
  • University of Houston–Downtown (UHD)
  • University of Houston–Victoria (UHV)

These four schools are separate universities with their own presidents, academic programs, etc. They are not satellite campuses of the University of Houston. The University of Houston does not oversee UH–Downtown, UH–Clear Lake, and UH–Victoria.

Here is the hierarchy of the University of Houston System, which includes four independent universities):

This is the CORRECT hierarchy:

  • University of Houston System
    • University of Houston
    • University of Houston–Clear Lake
    • University of Houston–Downtown
    • University of Houston–Victoria

This is what most people (including you) think of the University of Houston, which is INCORRECT:

  • University of Houston
    • University of Houston–Clear Lake
    • University of Houston–Downtown
    • University of Houston–Victoria

A person who is admitted to the University of Houston (UH) can not attend classes at UHD, UHCL, etc. Do you understand this so far?

There is only one campus of the University of Houston (UH).

University of Houston–Downtown (UHD) is not an extension or satellite campus of UH. UH–Downtown, UH–Clear Lake, and UH–Victoria are separate universities within the University of Houston System (UHS). The University of Houston System (UHS) oversees UH, UHD, UHCL, and UHV.

I went to the University of Houston (UH) and graduated from there so I know first hand.

The official and proper name for UH is "University of Houston," NOT "UH main campus" or "UH central campus" or any other variants that most people get mixed up and confused with. "UH Central" existed back in the 70s and 80s because UH–Downtown and UH–Clear Lake WERE extension campuses of UH back then, but not anymore. They are now freestanding universities, not extension or satellite campuses of the University of Houston (UH). There is only ONE University of Houston. The others are University of Houston–Downtown, University of Houston–Clear Lake, and University of Houston–Victoria.

In summary, the university that is located off of 4800 Calhoun Rd is named "University of Houston" (not UH main campus or UH central campus).

As I explained above, the University of Houston (UH) only has one campus, which is located at 4800 Calhoun Rd (77004). That campus is officially called "University of Houston." The University of Houston–Downtown (UHD) is a separate university with its own president, academic programs, and admission requirements. UHD is its own separate university with their own campus, just like UHCL and UHV. These three are not related or administered by UH—they are separate universities. Here is the hierarchy of the four separte universities (not "campuses") under the UH System:
CORRECT statement: The University of Houston System has four universities, with Univerisity of Houston being the flagship institution.
INCORRECT statement: The University of Houston System has one university with four campuses. (INCORRECT) This is absolutely incorrect and is usually mistaken by most people.
Another example: If some you know went to and graduated from the "University of Houston–Downtown" (UHD), then they never went to the "University of Houston" (UH) and is not a UH alumni—they would be a UHD alumni. A true University of Houston (UH) student and/or alumni would be attending or have attended/graduated from the University of Houston, which is located on 4800 Calhoun Rd.
Someone who attends UH–Downtown or UH–Clear Lake is NOT a UH student. Simple as that!
You will not find "UH-Main Campus" or "UH-Central Campus" in any publications of the University of Houston (UH). Categorization

The category "Sex scandal figures" is inappropriate for Verne Troyer. This is not a "sex scandal" - the word "scandal" creates a strong implication of wrongdoing, unethical, immoral or illegal conduct on the part of the participants, such as when Bill Clinton had sexual relationships outside of his marriage. There's no evidence at all that this is the case here.

No problem, I can see how it is right on the edge - this is one of those grey areas where the categorization scheme breaks down. Especially with categories like this one, that have rather strong negative connotations, I think we have to be real careful to use the right words to describe a person. The curse of categorization is that it requires a bright line - there's no context to them like we can put in articles, "well he's X, but he's X because of Y," it's just "He's Z, end of story." Some category for this is appropriate, I just can't think of which one.

METRORail Map

I'm not sure I understand your concern. I'm aware of the modified alignment, and that updated .pdf from Metro is the very document I referenced to create the diagram. The only change, I believe, is that reroute over Hutchins, which will now have a station as marked, rather than over Ennis. As for the stations at the corner of W. Alabama/Scott and Scott/Elgin, I assume that they will still be included as part of the Southeast Line since there have been no indications to the contrary. Of course, all of this is still somewhat speculative since no one can be exactly sure what Metro will do, (like whether the Scott and Elgin stations will be crossovers between Southeast and University, as marked). From their stated plans, there seem to be all sorts of possibilities, so I tried to incorporate those that seem most likely. Eheadstream (talk) 01:36, 7 August 2008 (UTC)

Hmm, actually it seems that Metro has released an updated Southeast Line map (dated 7/29/08) that is different as regards the intersection of University and Southeast near the UH campus. Taxi at Bush Airport

Well, it is relevant because the taxi cab drivers described in the article exclusively serve the airport. It would be one thing if the property was on the airport grounds, but the drivers didn't serve the airport. However the cab drivers are there to serve airport customers. Marvin Zindler

He is still categorized in "Houston, Texas television anchors," which is a subcategory of all the journalism categories he was in. Articles should normally not be in a subcategory and directly in the higher level category. That is redundant and little help with navigation.

The "American journalists" category has almost 3,000 articles, and I'm working to diffuse it.

I removed Zindler from the Marine Corps category because articles are notmally supposed to be categorized only by defining characteristics. Given that the article only mentioned that he'd been in the Corps, the experience doesn't seem to be a defining characteristic. Maurreen (talk) 08:09, 23 March 2010 (UTC)

I am the author and very new to this, so I apologize. My intent is to bring readers attention to other groups conducting research in the Argonne – not only that of the Army officer, who so far has had the monopoly here. Having studied this matter in extreme detail in both German and the American archives as well as participating in the field research of both groups I know for a fact that there is a lot of misinformation concerning this matter that should be corrected. The research I represent was conducted legally, objectively and scientifically which is in stark contrast to the research that seems to have made the spotlight in this case.

I would be welcome to any suggestions about the best way to present the research of Dr. Nolan and/or myself being that I conducted my own independant investigation. If you really check into the other group's claims you will find numerous errors, inaccuracies, improperly translated and misused “endorsement letters” as well as research methodology that would be questioned by any archaeologist that lead those not fully versed with the relevant historical accounts to a very inaccurate interpretation of this important historical event.

Police officer fatalities

If you want to create an article that lists police officers of HPD who died, I would suggest first finding a reliable source (or two or three) that chronicles the officer deaths that HPD had over the years. If you can find sources that give summaries and general background info of HPD fatalities over the years, then you could justify the creation of an article that also includes a list of HPD fatalities.   • Having information on individual officers may be helpful (especially when justifying whether to list deaths of individual officers), but I would also suggest trying to find information on overall trends of department deaths if one plans to make a completely separate article. There may be Chronicle and/or Houston Post sources about this.
  • An idea could be to present this idea to the Houston WikiProject on its talk page. HPD also falls within the Houston WikiProject as well as the law enforcement Wikiproject.

  • If it was not unusual, or the public didn't think it would be unusual, I don't think the Houston Press would bother to mention it. If someone had gotten that info from a primary source, maybe it could be removed as it wouldn't be of note. However a secondary source, an article from a journalist, makes a point of it. Perhaps I could add that the METRO President (Grenias) criticized how his agency didn't use two floors. It would be one thing if Greanias said "no, it's not a big deal, everybody has empty space" (then that could be added) - but in this case the METRO president is criticizing that.

I personally do think the Press should have divided the number of dollars by the number of floors and calculated a new amount or something when talking about how two floors are unused. WhisperToMe (talk) 03:58, 2 September 2010 (UTC)

  • Yeah, please do try to find more information. If a reliable source (a Chronicle columnist, or a columnist for the Press) prints statements to the contrary, that could be helpful. We could say "The President of METRO said X, Y columnist responded and said Z"
  • Even if METRO doesn't fill up space with more employees, it can always lease to someone, and the president may temporarily lease to someone before METRO needs to expand space.

Yeah, you can include the beating controversy now. When there's something that will clearly be a notable incident, you can start a section on it quickly. For instance, when a fatal plane crash happens, on the English Wikipedia the article starts almost immediately.

You do have to make sure that it doesn't take up too much of the article.

I have an idea: See if newspaper articles or news articles generally have lists of HPD or other police department officers who had been arrested in the past. Gulfton graffiti

Hey Hourick! I went to Gulfton to photograph the Napoleon Square Apartments (File:NapoleonSquareapts0.JPG), and I think I found myself some real Southwest Cholos graffiti...

And now it's on Wikipedia... I'm not a graffiti expert, but I don't see how this could be fake, so I assumed it was real. Also, I wonder what the HPD Gulfton Storefront will think about these images being shown around the world?
