Hi Hugopako, thanks for your improvements on the

Should the women's football task force become WikiProject: WOSO?

According to an op-ed in the recent Signpost, some editors think task forces and subgroups are dying in 2017.

What do you think about forming our own

massive reversion to incorrect category format

Please note that reverting to wwikix format you are adding parent and child categories - without explaining why...

To do so you must provide an explanation - as such reversion is contrary to general rules about categories

Thanks JarrahTree 10:03, 19 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

For instance:- you have Indonesia as:-

  • Geography of Asia by country - child category
  • Geography by country - parent category
  • Geography of Southeast Asia by country - grandchild category

There is no justified reason in the rules of Categorisation to apply or add the first two if you have the third.

Please stop now, as you are re-creating a confused understanding of what categorisation is about JarrahTree 10:08, 19 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I find it fine to include those categories, same as other Asian countries before my reverts. It's like I agree with Hmains.Hugopako (talk) 10:09, 19 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
And currently Category:Geography of Southeast Asia by country is not those two categories' child category.Hugopako (talk) 10:12, 19 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Fine or personal preference is nothing to do with the guidelines - whether another user does something is irrelevent - there have been editors who have been blocked for ignoring the general guidelines. You simply must get it, that you do not revert others edits without adequate edit summaries, and reference to a specific guideline that indicates your revert is in line with general practice.

Neither is the case - you are simply re-adding parent and grandparent categories that are not how categories work in english wikipedia JarrahTree 10:15, 19 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

  • Geography by country
  • Geography of Asia by country
  • Geography of Central Asia by country

For Kyrgistan is basically wrong - utilising the first two is showing little or no understanding of what categories about regardless of what hmains or wwikix got up to. Please stop. JarrahTree 10:19, 19 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I go with this. Tha's my explanation.Hugopako (talk) 10:27, 19 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

You are getting it very wrong... Just because hmains and mitchames have their issue about inclusive things - and not the same we are talking about here

your re-placing Parent and Grandparent categories where they are not needed is different...

See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Categorization#Category_tree_organization

Please stop JarrahTree 10:33, 19 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

A bit funny when you say "please stop" over and over again. But i guess that kind of inclusion is not unfamiliar around here, like, Category:History_of_Oman. And what made me re-add all those categories on all those pages? Because when I see a lot of Asian countries in a category but some countries are missing, so basically, I have to add it in. Sort of synchronisation, you know.Hugopako (talk) 10:48, 19 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

No, it is not synchronisation - and you do not have to add something in that goes against the general

WP:AGF I'll leave it at that JarrahTree 11:02, 19 August 2017 (UTC)[reply
]

If you want my edits to be reverted, easy. Go removing categories "Geography of Asia by country" and "Geography by country" from every Asian country in Category:Geography of Asia by country, just leave regional category. I'll do nothing about it if someone does so.Hugopako (talk) 15:38, 19 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

In situations like this where you spend energy defending a mis-understanding of categories, I would prefer a third party have a look and deal with the issue. Maybe if you find something like the history of Oman - you could revert the over-cat there - and wherever you find it... JarrahTree 00:07, 20 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hello WOSO editors! A few initiatives have been started with an emphasis on making more WOSO links blue (similar to the work that WikiProject Women in Red does) and filling in the gaps within various league, team, and player, etc. articles.

If you're interested in collaborating with others to make more links blue, take a look at the initiatives listed in the box below. Sign up at the bottom of an initiative page and help grow the lists, add potential references, resources, and create the articles ... or create your own initiative.

Rivers of Asia

Is an issue if there is already Rivers of Southeast Asia - - there is no need to add rivers of asia if it (Rivers of Southeast Asia) exists - it is a parent category - and in most cases there is no need to repeat a parent and child category on the one category page. well worth getting a handle on Subcat in the categories explanation pages JarrahTree 12:35, 30 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@User:JarrahTree I dont add it, I sort it. I dont care who added it, or who will remove it.Hugopako (talk) 12:37, 30 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Fair enough JarrahTree 12:40, 30 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Heard this phrase a lot.Hugopako (talk) 12:42, 30 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
[1] was created with rivers by country in asia basically providing a parallel category to rivers in asia - which editor [2] was a cause celebre for doing - parralel category structures which had ranges of geographical features among others being rivers - the editor who added the particular example above also has developed category tree structures on similar lines - small problem was the parent category is not there but the subdivision of southeast asia - and that was what I was indicating above - I had not checked your edit history closely enough to see you were sorting with the qualifying word - so I have no problem with your sorting at all.

To answer your edit summary question - [3] it was what was behind the categories as they are - so, my apology, I didnt read the edit history close enough. I do hope you understand now, even if as you put it, you dont care JarrahTree 14:15, 30 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

It's okay. Doesn't really matter that much. All about sorting, you know.Hugopako (talk) 14:18, 30 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Google Code-In 2019 is coming - please mentor some documentation tasks!

Hello,

Google Code-In, Google-organized contest in which the Wikimedia Foundation participates, starts in a few weeks. This contest is about taking high school students into the world of opensource. I'm sending you this message because you recently edited a documentation page at the English Wikipedia.

I would like to ask you to take part in Google Code-In as a mentor. That would mean to prepare at least one task (it can be documentation related, or something else - the other categories are Code, Design, Quality Assurance and Outreach) for the participants, and help the student to complete it. Please sign up at the contest page and send us your Google account address to [email protected], so we can invite you in!

From my own experience, Google Code-In can be fun, you can make several new friends, attract new people to your wiki and make them part of your community.

If you have any questions, please let us know at [email protected].

Thank you!

What a year to be alive. As usual (but perhaps even moreso since there have been unexpected quarantines), there has been a lot of activity on player, team, league and tournament-related Wikipedia articles with all of the worldwide coverage of women's football / soccer. Great work!
