  • You can sign your name using three tildes (~). If you use four, you can add a datestamp too.
  • You may want to add yourself to the new user log.
  • If you ever think a page or image should be deleted, please list it at the

page if you want to retrieve something that you think should not have been deleted.
  • If you're still entirely confused, or would like to get a better grasp of your wikipedia skills, and you have an IRC client (or don't mind getting one), check out the Bootcamp. It's not what it sounds like, but it is fun and can help you with your editing skills.
  • If you're bored and want to find something to do, try the Random page button in the sidebar, or check out the Open Task message in the

In the

Jeff Lebowski article, Eliezer pointed out that your comment was only the seventh edit by your account on Wikipedia. I left a note there, but I just thought I would expand on it. Occasionally the debates on deleting articles get pretty heated, and troublesome people have been known to create multiple accounts (called 'sock puppets') to try to stuff the ballot box. I'm not really sure why Eliezer brought it up, though. I certainly don't see anything the least bit suspicious about you or your vote, and there's certainly no reason a user with a new account (not necessarily a new user) can't opine about the deletion of an article. Hope it seems like much ado about nothing to you, as that is how it looks to me. And, incidentally, welcome to Wikipedia! --DavidConrad 02:36, 5 January 2006 (UTC)[reply

Oh, one more note. In the same discussion you said, "I got the impression the Wiki community wants people to get involved." To which I heartily respond: Absolutely! Cheers. --DavidConrad 02:44, 5 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

David, thanks for the clarification. There's a lot to pick up very quickly when you start trying to get involved with Wikipedia, but I appreciate the encouragement to get involved. It seemed genuine, so Eliezer's comment just made me assume that I'd wandered into System Adminstrator land. I could see some sense behind saying that only people with a minimum number of contributions might get involved with deletion/merging/undeletion debates. And as I tried to indicate with my question, I'm not offended, and wasn't, but felt the need just to ask what's up. And I had been wondering about 'sock puppets'. Articles For Deletion

Hi, one or both of the following situations applies to you, and you may therefore be interested in related discussions.

You may also be interested in a discussion of whether or not the entire text of a whole bible chapter should be contained in the 6 articles concerning those specific chapters, and whether or not they should only use the translations favoured by fundamentalists. This is being discussed at Wikipedia:Centralized discussion/Whole bible chapter text.

Just to let you know that when you nominate articles for deletion you should make sure to use {{subst:afd2}} and not just {{afd2}} when you create the articles for deletion subpage. If you don't subst it, it results in a rather weird bug that prevents some folks from voting. Stifle 00:14, 24 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. I think this is now sorted. Cheers. -- Necrothesp 14:48, 24 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Alright, thanks I'm fairly new to Wikipedia and I'm not exactly sure if I understand just how everything works. --GorillazFanAdam 20:19, 15 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Again thanks a lot, I would have never found that page on my own, I really appreciate all the help. --GorillazFanAdam 21:37, 15 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, do you know when this article is going to be deleted, it hasn't been taken down despite the fact almost everyone voted delete. --GorillazFanAdam 02:52, 18 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Birtwistle

Greetings from the Opera Project!

I noticed you added Birtwhistle to the select list of major opera composers. I wonder if I might ask about your thinking on this? Is it perhaps a kind of promotion?

As you may have seen we have put him in

The opera corpus
. By the way I've seen your two articles and I thought they were excellent. I wonder if you would consider doing some more articles on 20th century English opera?

Kleinzach 20:26, 20 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your robust defence of Birtwhistle as a member of the major opera composers list. Fair enough, although I fear others may regard his inclusion as eccentric. (I wonder how many people outside England have actually heard of him?) Putting a note on the Talk page does seem a good idea - that is what I did before I made the last cull - of some very obscure names.
The problem with this kind of list is that the criteria for inclusion are inevitably unclear, though once the list exists it takes on a life of its own and we can't get rid of it.
We have been trying to expand the coverage of opera - including a large number of 20th century composers - through
The opera corpus
page. (There are some statistics showing this).
We now have about 360+ articles and stubs on composers. This contains many red links (unwritten articles). Perhaps you can suggest composers and works that are still missing from this? Our basic criteria is that operas listed should merit their own articles, separate from the composers' biographies. Regards.
Kleinzach 01:51, 21 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your reply. I've never used the AfD tag and I imagine we would need a strong case not to encounter opposition from past contributors who feel they have a stake in the history of the page. It's difficult to make strong case against a weak page! I also recognize that introductory pages are needed for (opera) beginners.
There are weaker pages than the
List of notable opera companies
which is a real jumble of names.
Wikipedia progress is a kind of 'three steps forward, one step back' kind of business, but on the other hand if you develop pages you believe in there isn't much resistance. Best.

Admin Nomonation

Hey, I was looking at the admin nomonation page just now and rembered how polite and helpul you were in helping me...so I decided that maybe you would be a good candidate for adminship, so I nominated you.[1] You would probably make a better admin than half of those impulisive blockers out there who are currently admins. Good luck. --GorillazFanAdam 23:24, 27 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, I see, well I hope you enjoy your Wikibreak. Hope to hear from you when you get back.--GorillazFanAdam 02:10, 29 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
