Apology, and help with email address

Dear KDS4444, I want to say that I am very sorry for unexpectedly criticizing your drawing in a lot of ways; that must have come as a shock and a very unpleasant one. I do apologize. If we had had a chance to discuss it before it was submitted for Featured status that would have been a much better way to handle it. I found the email addresses of the main author of the original 2006 paper. He is Takenori Sasaki, and his email is sasaki{at}um.u-tokyo.ac.jp ; if you would like to write to him that would be really great. If you would rather not write to him, then I can do it; just ask me. Sorry again, and I hope we can work this through to a successful conclusion. Best wishes, Invertzoo (talk) 13:19, 4 October 2013 (UTC)

I see that this time around it was not promoted, sorry, but if we can get an OK from the author of the original paper (Sasaki), I am more than willing to support the nomination the next time around, and help you in any other way. Invertzoo (talk) 12:44, 6 October 2013 (UTC)

By the way, I think the changes you recently made to the image really improved it a lot. Invertzoo (talk) 23:07, 6 October 2013 (UTC)

I have made a number of changes to the drawing at this point, not all of them submitted yet. There were some fundamental shifts in perspective that affected the placement of some major organs— I, too, think it has improved a lot over the past week or so. Regarding Sasaki's email address: I already attempted to contact him a few months ago and asked him to vet the image for me. I got no response, much to my disappointment. Maybe you will have better luck than I did? If you think you have a better chance of reaching him, please do so and let me know. Thank you. KDS4444Talk 19:05, 7 October 2013 (UTC)

Yes it is looking good now. I did email Sasaki, I will let you know if I hear anything. If I don't I will try again. Sometimes academics are very busy, especially at this time of year. Invertzoo (talk) 13:34, 8 October 2013 (UTC)

Quincy Music Theater deletion

KDS4444 THANK YOU! so much for your kind help. I have used Wikipedia for a long time for the references, but have not, as you noticed, done much on the entire articles side. I am a professor and do fix some misinformation in my field of expertise. So, I am good at finding references, But, not fully familiarized with Wiki protocol for more complex issues. Additionally, the programming language is confusing beyond simple edits. The process of who to contact about a deletion was not fully clear despite reading some of the help pages. It is why I deleted the one paragraph on the closed discussion page. After posting, I saw something that said not to modify it. I wasn't sure of where to post or if I had posted in the correct locations.

I will try, as you suggest, to create a sandbox before actually posting an new article. I do have a question. I hadn't visited that page for quite some time before I noticed it was deleted. But, some of the previous information was interesting. Is there a way to access the old page information to take some of the references from there? ProfessorMama (talk) 16:38, 4 November 2013 (UTC)ProfessorMama

Got your message above [aside: two items of Wiki-protocol, just so you know about them: 1.) when editing someone's talk page for the first time or on a new subject it is customary to put a header at the beginning of the section you are writing. The heading is a single line of text consisting of two equals signs, a title of some sort that summarizes what you are about to write, and then two more consecutive equals signs. This makes a "header two" or a second tier header in the document so that what you write below it can be spotted more easily. But this is just a protocol, not a requirement. 2.) Notice that I am replying to your talk page on my own talk page (which is quite common and helps make it easier to track conversations than flipping back and forth between two user talk pages) and that— if you click to edit this page— you will see that I have begun this paragraph and all that follow with a single colon (just before the words "Got your message...") in order to create an indent on my own text and signify that what I am writing is a response to what you already wrote... So your reply to me, if you put it here in my talk page below this text, should start off with two colons before each paragraph (to create a double indent). And if/ when I reply, I will use three, etc. It just makes things easier to follow, and no worries if you do not apply it! (yes, sometimes conversations to go past eight or ten responses, but let's not get into that just yet).
Anyhow! You asked about resurrecting the text of the original article on the Quincy Music Theater. What I know is this: because the article was formally deleted from the system, retrieving it is not something that anyone but an administrator can do. It does exist, somewhere, but deletion decisions wouldn't serve any purpose if deleted material was still readily available! And so it is not. I do not know if the original closing admin must necessarily be the person to resurrect the piece, but I doubt it (though they should certainly be consulted by whichever admin actually does). To that end, you did the right thing by leaving a message on the talk page of the admin that closed the discussion for the QMT awhile back— you should be getting a response to that message (and may have done so already) with some instructions on the steps necessary to resurrect the article. If not, I can make an inquiry myself.
You were correct in returning the original deletion discussion to its former state. Though you correctly identified some of the individuals responsible for the decision, modifying a deletion discussion, even just to comment on it, will only get the act reversed by someone else and earn you a finger-wagging from someone for not following the rules (and to your credit, you figured this out before the finger got wagged! Others of us only seem to learn the hard way...). Good luck, and again, let me know if you think I can be of further service. I won't have it be said that I opposed the recreation of a worthy and notable subject, so long as the facts match the case. KDS4444Talk 07:25, 5 November 2013 (UTC)

VIC Motorcycle Logo Update

Hi KDS,

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you and thanks for your willingness to help. I've linked to the official PNG for Victory Motorcycles logo on our G+ page. It's the Avatar picture (Black background, Red V) for the Victory Motorcycles Business Page. If this is still too small let me know how I can email you the direct image as an attachment, or even upload it somewhere. Let me know what else I need to do for this to be updated.

Link

Thanks again for your hard work and helpfulness!

Best,

--Sasteffl (talk) 20:51, 2 December 2013 (UTC)-Sasteffl

Hi, Sasteffl! So, I tried the link you gave me above: it took me to a page that briefly showed me the logo and an image of a cycle, then flashed away to something asking me to join Google Plus to follow Victory Motorcycles. What I would need is a URL that was pointed directly at a stable simple version of the logo in the highest resolution you are willing/ able to provide, most likely as a PNG file (possibly a JPG, GIF, TIFF, even an SVG would be nice). The URL should not point to a web page, per se, but to an image located on a server somewhere— the link you make for me should look sort of like this: "http:\\Victorymotorcycles.com\blah_blah_blah_etc\subdirectory\Victory_Logo.png" with the blah blah blah and subdirectory parts being part of an address you would provide, and "Victory_Logo.png" being just an example as to what you might have actually named the file. My point is that the URL should end with the name and type of the image file that you would like to have used... It should not end with the letters "html" or "htm", as these are suffixes for web pages, not image files, nor should it end with "pub" as this is only a name for a public directory on the Victory Motorcycles server.
That's a lot of verbiage— am I making some sense here? Please let me know if not. I've been told I am not very good at explaining things sometimes! KDS4444Talk 12:57, 3 December 2013 (UTC)

Thanks for the clarification, I think this file should work based on what you were telling me.

Link

Again, thank you so much for your time and I'll check back shortly to see if there's anything else I need to do!

Best,

--Sasteffl (talk) 18:38, 5 December 2013 (UTC)

Image uploaded, fair-use rationale provided, article updated! Let me know if there is anything I seem to have left out! KDS4444Talk 04:36, 6 December 2013 (UTC)

Hey KDS,

Thanks a ton, I really appreciate it!

Quick question, when I Google "Victory Motorcycles" the upper right hand image corresponding with the Wikipedia information is displaying the old logo which is linked to a Northerncompanies.com website. Is there any additional steps I need to take for this to change or is it just a slight delay for the image change to take effect across all web platforms?

Best,

--Sasteffl (talk) 15:08, 6 December 2013 (UTC)

I have followed your link and see what you are getting at. I am not sure exactly how Google organizes its web search results, but the box you are seeing is one that Google produces, not Wikipedia, and though the text it is offering you is from the Wikipedia web site, Wikipedia is not able to control the Northern Companies web site that is providing the old logo (the old logo which will continue to be the logo that comes up on Google searches like this until either the Northern Companies changes it or Google decides to use a different source for its image— there will be no additional propagation of the image that I uploaded for you, unfortunately, beyond what has likely happened already). Have you considered contacting the Northern Companies/ Northern Group directly and asking them to use the new logo? They might or might not be responsive to your request, though I can't imagine that they'd object especially as it is the correct logo. On the other hand, in order for them to do this, they would have to change some of their web site information, and I am sure they would rather not bother if they don't feel they have to. What I can tell you is that Wikipedia isn't able to manage the Google search result— and I doubt very much that anyone at Google is going to be responsive to a request for this to be updated (although actually I do know a guy who works for them and might be able to help out— let me send him a message and get back to you, yes?). KDS4444Talk 04:11, 7 December 2013 (UTC)
Okay, I explained to my contact at Google just what the problem was and this was his response-- Wanna give it a shot and see if it works? -- KDS4444Talk 01:24, 8 December 2013 (UTC)

Do the Google search now, and look at the bottom right of that card showing the company info with the wrong logo.

Click "Feedback/More Info"

Then click the "Wrong?" label above the logo.

Fill out the form to let Google know what's wrong and how to fix it.

Then just wait!

Hey KDS,

Thanks for the information and hard work, you've been AWESOME!

I followed your instructions and submitted the request to Google, hopefully it updates soon. Did your friend happen to mention what the typical timeframe is for a change to something like this? I've got to imagine Google receives millions of these requests a day.

Thanks again!

--Sasteffl (talk) 14:54, 9 December 2013 (UTC)

He did not, and I was already overstepping the bounds of our friendship a bit by asking him for advice about his work... I think you are correct when you say that Google probably receives lots of this requests per day, and that it is likely to take them some time to fix this issue in particular, but other than knowing that it is likely being worked on eventually, I don't have any idea how long it might take. Have you tried contacting the Northern Companies directly and asking them to update their use of the logo as well? This might make it happen sooner rather than later, and they might have more staff available to make such a change than Google is willing to pay for. I think that's worth a shot! KDS4444Talk 02:45, 10 December 2013 (UTC)
But the good news,Sasteffl, as perhaps you have by now noticed, is that a Google search now produces the correct updated logo. Success! So when will you be shipping out my new bike?? A Vegas 8-ball will be just fine. KDS4444Talk 02:17, 13 December 2013 (UTC)

I saw that, for whatever reason they didn't link to the URL I gave them (which didn't have the "USA" in the V), but now I'm just splitting hairs.

Seeing as we're based out of MN (which is basically the North Pole) I flagged down my friend Santa and told him you definitely deserve more than coal for the Holidays this year!

Thanks again for your help, I really appreciate it!

    • Thank you!, Invertzoo! You know what? I actually did end up sending a paper letter to Sasaki at the University of Tokyo Museum about a month ago, including with it a color print-out I had made of the critter, and asking for him to vet the image for me and for the Wikipedia article... So far, still nothing! I could also find no evidence of his having died since the article was first published. Maybe he doesn't speak English. I am at a loss, but am pleased enough that this limpet is going to be a featured picture (and, on January 27th, it will even be Picture of the Day for all of the English-speaking Wikipedia! Be sure to look for it then!!). Again, thank you! KDS4444Talk 09:54, 11 January 2014 (UTC)

Ways to improve Skiving (leathercraft)

Hi, I'm Carriearchdale. KDS4444, thanks for creating Skiving (leathercraft)!

I've just tagged the page, using our page curation tools, as having some issues to fix. Perhaps you could choose some appropriate categories near the bottom of the article to help improve the overall article and make the article more easily searchable by wikipedia users. Thanks!

The tags can be removed by you or another editor once the issues they mention are addressed. If you have questions, you can leave a comment on

File:Thick Lens Diagram.svg

Hi KDS4444. I see that you replaced File:ThickLens.png with File:Thick Lens Diagram.svg. The change from SH and S'H' to Sn and S'n' looks like an error. Or am I missing something?

Variable names should be in italics: f, n, r, e, d, s (denoting distance). The subscripts should not be in italics unless they are themselves variables. If you want to leave the labels for points and planes (F, H, C, S) in uppercase roman type that's OK with me. Contrary to the original image, I recommend using lowercase s for distance to avoid confusion with the uppercase S marking the vertex points on the lens.--Srleffler (talk) 18:49, 22 March 2014 (UTC)

I did not realize these aspects made any difference-- thank you for pointing them out. I will correct and re-upload post haste. KDS4444Talk 21:59, 22 March 2014 (UTC)
Corrections made, please look it over and let me know if it has any further problems or if you have any suggestions. Thanks again! KDS4444Talk 22:11, 22 March 2014 (UTC)
Thanks. The italics don't seem to be there. Browsing the SVG it looks like you added italics, but they aren't rendering for some reason. It's a nice image by the way. Sorry to nit-pick but details matter on technical drawings. --Srleffler (talk) 01:31, 23 March 2014 (UTC)
I finally got it to give me italics by converting the text to outlines, something I always prefer not to do, but italics are italics and they matter, as you have said and as I certainly agree. Please let me know if it NOW has any issues. I think I did everything you suggested. And it's an okay picture, but I've done much better ones! KDS4444Talk 03:11, 23 March 2014 (UTC)
Thanks, it looks great.--Srleffler (talk) 17:25, 23 March 2014 (UTC)

A technicality with your signature

A minor detail. I use a syntax-highlighter in my editor window, and it's getting confused by your signature. You begin a new font inside a wikilink and then end it inside a second wikilink. This upsets the nesting. I think if you replaced

<font face="Verdana"> <span style="color:midnightblue">KDS</span><span style="color:steelblue">4444</span><span style="color:limegreen">Talk</span></font>

with

<font face="Verdana"><span style="color:midnightblue">KDS</span><span style="color:steelblue">4444</span><span style="color:limegreen">Talk</span></font>

your signature would look exactly the same (in fact the parsed HTML would be identical), but the syntax-highlighter would no longer be fooled. -- Dr Greg  talk  22:49, 28 April 2014 (UTC)

I had no idea this was a problem, and will change it immediately. Thank you for pointing this out to me. KDS4444Talk 09:32, 29 April 2014 (UTC)
Okay, I have replaced my old sig with your proposed text. Is it better now? Please advise. KDS4444Talk 09:35, 29 April 2014 (UTC)

Raashid Alvi

Thanks for your input on this article. I am not sure if it is a

OWN the article, and not comply with either policies or consensus.
There have been several attempts to cull the linkfarm, reduce the size and number of pictures, remove the promotional tone and Indic scripts, but the supporter(s) keep reverting these back to their preferred version. They have twice sought page protection (both times turned down) arguing that the page needed protection, to protect it from vandalism - ignoring the fact that they were the ones committing that vandalism by reinstating material contrary to policy. As with many supporters of a cause, they are very persistent and appear to be co-ordinated - as an example the last request for page protection was made by an editor on just their fifth edit - quite a remarkable speed of learning Wikipedia's procedures. Thanks again. - Arjayay (talk

Ha! I noticed the very same thing regarding the page protection request, and thought to myself, "My, how precocious of this person/ sockpuppet!" The kids are learning so fast these days, it seems. Yes, I agree that it looks like one or more persons (and it seems not unlikely that Alvi himself is involved given the profusion of personal photos that have landed on Commons recently) is determined to have the piece owned and to read like an homage. If they continue, then honestly I will be looking forward to the possibility of seeing the subject brought up for a dispute resolution (and as I have never been involved in one before, that would be a learning experience for me). I wonder what will happen next? Am staying tuned to see! KDS4444Talk 16:56, 1 June 2014 (UTC)

Some responses

This is in response to the inquiries you made in this edit at the Mediation Committee request page. Let me begin by saying:

  • Nothing I say here is on behalf of the Mediation Committee or said in my capacity as a member of that Committee, it's just my opinion and personal advice.
  • I am not a

    .
  • The advice I give here about your allegations about conduct or other infractions does not imply that I agree that those allegations are correct or have any merit, but neither does what I just said imply any doubt or disagreement with their correctness or merit. This is merely procedural advice.
  • To the extent I advise you that certain forums or venues or procedures should be used, that presumes that you will read and strictly follow the instructions, warnings, and admonitions given there.

Having got that out of the way, I'd suggest that the best order to address things is to begin by filing a request for a sockpuppet investigation at

It does, and I thank you for it, KDS4444Talk 21:43, 2 June 2014 (UTC)
I had hoped that your request for mediation, and the
WP:SPI - I'm out for the next few hours so if you have the time - please proceed. I note that another of Alvi's facebook pages [1] specifically states "This Page is Managed by the Die Hard Fans of Raashid Alvi Saheb" and then states "Edited by Hamd Irfan , Shakeeluddin Owaisi, Zubair Qureshi, Sajid Khan, Rahul Roy." so their COI is quite clear, as Hamd Irfan self identifies on his userpage. If the SPI can show the 3 new accounts are sockpuppets, hopefully they will all be blocked. - Arjayay (talk

I actually found four accounts (though the fourth, Rohanroy, is mostly inconsequential) and the investigation is now underway. KDS4444Talk 14:14, 3 June 2014 (UTC)
Thanks, I've added some examples of "surprising knowledge" for new editors - mostly taken from the ANI case. - Arjayay (talk) 14:40, 3 June 2014 (UTC)
The page has now been fully protected - Admin edits only - for 2 weeks (and they protected the right version!) - Arjayay (talk) 16:46, 3 June 2014 (UTC)
Now maybe I can get on with all of the OTHER THINGS I was working on before this debacle! Nice show. May we cross paths again for different reasons again someday, RJA. Should that happen, I hope we both find ourselves on the same side of whatever is taking place. KDS4444Talk 16:59, 3 June 2014 (UTC)

Raashid Alvi - yet again

If you are not totally fed up with this article, a quick "heads-up" that the full protection on Raashid Alvi has been replaced by "pending changes".
As (I assume) we are in rather different time-zones, if you are still interested, we can probably keep an eye on this for about 20 out of 24 hours.
If you just want to get on with other things, I fully understand - Arjayay (talk) 18:28, 11 June 2014 (UTC)

Thank you for keeping me informed! Much appreciated. And while part of me would be quite happy to never hear of Mr. Alvi again as long as I live, another part feels obliged to at least keep watch over the article for a little while (considering what befell as a result of the SPI and all). My time zone, BTW, is US Pacific time, but I flip through the 'Pedia at all hours, so I will see if anything untoward shows up over the next few days at least. Thanks again for the heads-up! • The blurb is at Template:POTD/2014-07-12. I was wondering if you could write a short bit (another 3 sentences) which explains, in layman's terms, some of the more important points of the diagram. I keep getting lost while reading the article...  — Crisco 1492 (talk) 00:09, 28 June 2014 (UTC)
    • Ping... you seem to have missed this. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 23:40, 30 June 2014 (UTC)
  • Deepest apologies, had not noticed, thank you for the ping! Am working on it right now, should be done in 30 minutes or so I promise! KDS4444Talk 13:07, 1 July 2014 (UTC)
There, now I believe this has been taken care of. I hope I didn't write too much, please feel free to trim what I put together. I have come to know annelid physiology so well that I can get carried away when talking about it now, which feels a bit strange, but whatever. Please let me know if I missed something. Thank you! KDS4444Talk 14:01, 1 July 2014 (UTC)
  • I've trimmed a bit (I cut the nephrostomes entirely because we'd have gone on for too long, others I rephrased it to avoid using "you" etc.) Still a bit long, but serviceable. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 14:35, 1 July 2014 (UTC)

Your AfD nominations of football players

Yes, your nominations are highly likely to fail and just seem like nothing but
WP:POINT. A foolish move IMHO. GiantSnowman

Sorry. I thought I had followed the correct procedure in each case. Should I go ahead and simply withdraw them? I realize the wording was more or less the same in each nomination, but that was only because the checks I did were the same and my findings the same in each case as well. I certainly don't want to waste anyone's time. Won't happen again. My apologies. KDS4444Talk 21:27, 30 June 2014 (UTC)

Notifying Cluebot of an article for deletion?

Whack!

You've been whacked with a wet trout.

Don't take this too seriously. Someone just wants to let you know that you did something silly.

Piguy101 (talk) 17:53, 3 July 2014 (UTC)

Jeezuz I don't know what that was nor how I even did it... KDS4444Talk 15:42, 15 July 2014 (UTC)
@
Twinkle), then it would appear on ClueBot Commons, since that is the combined talk page for all the Cluebots. Currently, only ClueBot NG and ClueBot III are active, the rest have been shut down, but they still share the same talk page. --k6ka (talk | contribs

Scallops

Well done and thanks KDS444 for working a lot more on this very challenging diagram. And also I really want to congratulate you on your gorgeous earthworm segment, which I thought was terrific. It very much had the look and feel of the real thing. I must explain that currently I have a broken ankle, so I am lying in bed working on a little tiny MacBookAir. Your new scallop diagram looks very good indeed, but to see it properly I will need to examine it on the large screen of our iMac, and it might take me a few days before I can do that. Bear with me. Thanks again for all your painstaking work; it is people like you who make Wikipedia great! Invertzoo (talk) 11:56, 15 July 2014 (UTC)
First, am very sorry to hear you are not well in the ankle! I broke my own about three years ago falling off a ladder and it was the worst pain (and so far only broken bone) I have ever experienced in my life. You have more than just my sympathy. Second, I will be looking forward to your examination of the image in detail. In re-drawing it I have re-read, and re-re-read the relevant sections of the original book on giant scallop anatomy by Gilman Drew (for whom I would have a few questions and suggestions at this point) and thoroughly compared it section-for-section and drawing-for-drawing with Dakin's 1910 book (for whom I would have a few more) as well as a more modern review of both in Shumway and Parsons— I guess the one thing I lack is an actual scallop to look at (although there is a sushi bar in my neighborhood that might have them, but then we are straying into original research and I really don't care for sea food!). Frankly, I would just enjoy being able to discuss the image and the existing literature a bit with someone who understands what a parietovisceral ganglion is, because it is a rather rarefied subject matter and no one I know seems to care all that much. So stay off the foot-- it took me 10 weeks-- and have a look at the image when you can see it properly. I expect some suggestions for corrections when you have time for them. Thank you! KDS4444Talk 15:31, 15 July 2014 (UTC)
Thank you so much for your kind words KDS. The breaks I have are two undisplaced avulsion fractures, and supposedly they should heal relatively fast; I will find out I guess. I don't really know how long it will take before I can focus mentally enough to properly study your diagram, because I am still in pain, which is distracting, although it is not as bad as yours was, I am sure. But in theory I am supposed to be going away on Aug 4th. If I can concentrate long enough on your fine work before I leave, I will. Invertzoo (talk) 21:16, 15 July 2014 (UTC)
Me again. It is looking increasingly as if I may not be able to make the comparison until after I come back from my trip. Please feel free to remind me in late August if I seem to have forgotten. All good wishes, Invertzoo (talk) 00:42, 26 July 2014 (UTC)
Well, then, travel safe, and stay off that foot! Perhaps we can chat when you return.

Ways to improve Seilbomb

Hi, I'm Mleivagomez. KDS4444, thanks for creating Seilbomb!

I've just tagged the page, using our page curation tools, as having some issues to fix. I see no other references than those in the final section. Is it possible to include references in earlier text?

The tags can be removed by you or another editor once the issues they mention are addressed. If you have questions, you can leave a comment on

Speedy deletion declined: Riaz Afridi

Hello KDS4444. I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion of Riaz Afridi, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: Subject of article has verifiably played one Test for Pakistan. Thank you. Shirt58 (talk) 11:54, 25 July 2014 (UTC)

That aside, Shirt58, can you find evidence that this person meets the general notability guidelines? Perhaps the article should be moved to Articles for Deletion so that a discussion can take place. Thanks! KDS4444Talk 11:56, 25 July 2014 (UTC)
