Fwiw

I strongly believe you're owed an apology. You've been editing here for years, are an incredibly strong editor, and you are a person. You are your own person and for this community to condone that insult toward is beyond anything I can accept. I could say a lot more, but wanted to post to your page tonight. I am so very sorry this happened to you. When Maria (Yllosubmarine) got fed up and I left a pic of a strong drink on her page, so consider yourself owed the same. I'm more than a little upset to see the black tag on your page, but do understand. Take care and best. Victoria (tk) 00:43, 29 March 2016 (UTC)

I have no idea what happened but this is terrible. Kafka Liz, precious: I miss you! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 07:15, 29 March 2016 (UTC)

  • I'm surprised to see this, too; like Gerda above, I have no idea what's happened and it is both saddening and terrible to see a "Retired" banner here. I hope everything's okay. Acalamari 11:36, 29 March 2016 (UTC)
  • You're the best.....we need you...Modernist (talk) 12:05, 29 March 2016 (UTC)
Enjoy
  • Better late than never. Here's a nice Merlot (with two glasses for two editors). If your ears are ringing it's because I mentioned you on my talk - I know, I know, I did the pingie thingie, but it's nice and polite to stop by. Plus I wanted to deliver the promised drink. Take care. Victoria (tk) 23:29, 30 March 2016 (UTC)
  • Very sorry if this is the case! I missed any row. All the best, Johnbod (talk) 03:38, 31 March 2016 (UTC)
  • Hi Liz, I want to add my name to say that you'll be badly missed. This is a difficult place to spend time on, so I won't say that I hope you return, but I do hope you stay away only if you want to, not because you feel you've been driven off. All the best, SarahSV (talk) 22:13, 1 April 2016 (UTC)

Precious anniversary

Three years ago ...

... you were recipient
no. 440 of Precious,
a prize of QAI!

Thank you for the agreement to have music instead of visual this Easter, that was so kind. I was music written about in memory of those who lay in death's bonds, and in collaboration with Thoughtfortheday. Weekends here will be drier without your ping-pong-chats ... --Gerda Arendt (talk) 05:57, 30 March 2016 (UTC)

Thanks for being around again! I nominated your latest FA to be shown,

The Lord is my Shepherd, - listen if you like it. I started a stub on the conductor to whom it was dedicated, and received thanks already. Now I feel I have to expand ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk

Almost didn't see this. Many thanks, Gerda, and that is a lovely song. I wish I were better versed in such, so I could at least return the favour. :) Kafka Liz (talk) 22:08, 17 March 2017 (UTC)
I just came across another great "song", well, not really a song. Article (not by me) needs work but I'm tired ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 23:14, 17 March 2017 (UTC)

Thank you

I'd be lying if I claimed not to have checked in here. I do want to thank all of you who have left kind words - it means a lot to me, and I appreciate it. I've met some amazing people here, for which I am grateful. Thank you all again; your support means more then you know. Best, Kafka Liz (talk) 21:37, 2 April 2016 (UTC)

Sorry, I didn't chime in Liz. More than likely I would have said something rather unacceptable to Admin ears. --Kansas Bear (talk) 22:17, 2 April 2016 (UTC)

Family editing

Per [1], your spouse has edits to 8,801 pages. Let's call it 10,000 for round numbers, and assume those are all articles. That means there are, in fact, 6,808,420 articles you can independently edit and comment in without the provisions of

WP:FAMILY applying. No one is denying your value to the project, nor the value of your opinions in dispute resolution; I'm simply saying it would be best if you operate independently of your spouse, or, if you chose not to, accept that your position will not be considered as an entirely independent one for the purposes of determing consensus. NE Ent
21:53, 2 April 2016 (UTC)

NE Ent, I am not at all sure that consensus supports your opinion on this. Regarding your remark (the one about "spouse") that began the recent upsets, I don't recall seeing any editor saying they found your remark appropriate. I could be wrong.MPS1992 (talk) 22:11, 2 April 2016 (UTC)

I have posted five times in that discussion, so I am not sure why you think I would be unaware of its existence. MPS1992 (talk) 22:38, 2 April 2016 (UTC)

@NE Ent: do you hav any idea how incredibly patronising and offensive this sounds? It comes across as both demeaning to (a) any spouses/partners editing who may actually enjoy each others' interests and take genuine pleasure interacting with their partners and (b) the likes of you dictating to content editors like some sort of servant about what and how they should be editing. Seriously. Cas Liber (talk · contribs) 00:10, 3 April 2016 (UTC)

Furthermore as per that policy, I supremely doubt that anyone would have considered The Cloisters a controversial topic, nor infact about 97% of what Kafka Liz or Ceoil edit. If you had some empathy, you might have noted that three content editors are feeling pretty angry and upset at the moment, so inflaming the situation with "observations" such as above come over as....not really conducive to dispute resolution...Cas Liber (talk · contribs) 00:15, 3 April 2016 (UTC)

Apology

I was hasty. I was wrong. I apologize for applying an overly literal interpretative of Wikipedia policy to a context where it didn't apply. NE Ent 09:38, 4 April 2016 (UTC)

Apology accepted. I am sorry things spiralled this way. I think there is much to be gained by remembering that there are actual human beings behind the words on a screen, and that talking to them helps. That's all. Kafka Liz (talk) 14:41, 4 April 2016 (UTC)

Hi

I stopped by here last weekend but didn't save my edit. I also meant to stop by a few weeks ago and ask if you're interested in helping on Austen (it would be fun, but the fun got knocked out of me). Now I'm just stopping by to say hi. I have nothing else to offer. Oh, the Queen of Katwe is a good movie about a place that's interesting - my most interesting piece of news these days. Take care. Victoria (tk) 18:28, 15 October 2016 (UTC)

I am always grateful for a discreet personal message. I hadn't heard of this film, but it is one I'll seek out. Have new book recs, for what that's worth. Kafka Liz (talk) 19:15, 15 October 2016 (UTC)
I hadn't heard of the film either (had to be dragged to it) and apparently not many other people have because the cinema was empty. I think, or at least hope, it's a sleeper. Yes to new book recs; I'm always running out of books to read. Victoria (tk) 19:44, 15 October 2016 (UTC)
Well, I got a bit fed up with the Justin Cronin trilogy - ultimately a bit too humourless. Right now I am reading His Bloody Project, by Graeme Macrae Burnet. No hesitations in recommending this one. Author creates a very credible Victorian voice - almost as good as Sarah Waters. Kafka Liz (talk) 19:57, 15 October 2016 (UTC)
Thanks for the recs; I'll look to see whether the local library that no longer believes in books might possibly have those, otherwise I'll have to go on an Amazon shopping spree. Still trying to piece together Cronin's full trilogy. I might be in the mood for that now. It is getting fairly good reviews. Victoria (tk) 20:28, 15 October 2016 (UTC)
If you havnt seen "The Fall", its highly recommended - basically Prime Suspect in Belfast, starring Gillian Anderson as the lovely Helen Mirren. I'm told the main dude is very hot, "for an Irish guy", haha (bloke out of 50 shades). Tis better than it sounds; extremely dark. We are on our second watch. Ceoil (talk) 09:52, 16 October 2016 (UTC)
Yes, well worth a watch. And the serial killer guy is pretty hot, despite having a beard. Kafka Liz (talk) 10:48, 16 October 2016 (UTC)
[Fume]. What is with you and these serial killers. Spare a thought for us ordinary decent criminals. Ceoil (talk) 11:08, 16 October 2016 (UTC)
The Juwes are the men...shit, wrong page. Kafka Liz (talk) 11:22, 16 October 2016 (UTC)

Back to the original post, I'll take a look, but I can't promise anything. I hear all too well how this place is no longer fun. Kafka Liz (talk) 11:26, 16 October 2016 (UTC)

BMPL

It's hard to assume good faith with your most recent edit to the BMPL article. If you know how Wikipedia works, it's that the organizations have their logos in the infobox. This is consistent among library articles. It doesn't matter how "ugly" you think the image is, or how promotional you think its content is. If you don't think an organization's official logo belongs on the organization's Wikipedia article, then you have a very serious misunderstanding of Wikipedia. ɱ (talk) · vbm · coi) 03:56, 9 April 2017 (UTC)

Thanks for the condescension - it is always appreciated. The fact is that the image remains intact while the advertising logo is gone. Unless you're getting money for this, why is it an issue? Kafka Liz (talk) 04:04, 9 April 2017 (UTC)
The BMPL is a village entity, it doesn't really advertise, and as you can tell from its dated website, it doesn't even have anything resembling a media/marketing department/staff member. And what do you mean by "the image remains"? I photographed the image currently used, while the logo you removed uses a different image, the one you can see on its website. I again stress, as you can read on my userpage, that I volunteered to write about 20 articles about Briarcliff Manor, this being merely one of them. Contact whoever you want in Briarcliff, it's a small community. The village manager, trustees, historical society, or library could back up my statement here. Contact the library by phone or email here and they'll also tell you that File:Briarcliff Manor Public Library logo.jpg is their official logo, same as File:BPL Seal.svg, File:New York Public Library.png, or File:BritishLibrary.svg. ɱ (talk) · vbm · coi) 04:11, 9 April 2017 (UTC)
You are missing the substance of rational from the first FAC. Not ready, not good enough, not sure how much protective clothing that could be dressed enough in to keep you happy. Ceoil (talk) 04:28, 9 April 2017 (UTC)
What I mean is that there is still a picture of the library. I don't feel the corporate logo is appropriate to an encyclopaedia in this context, is all. I do not doubt your good faith here, honestly, that's all. Kafka Liz (talk) 04:25, 9 April 2017 (UTC)
I read
wp:logo and admit your advertising/significance arguments have merit, and I wish and hope the BMPL designs a better logo for that reason. I included it to be comprehensive in covering aspects of the library, and still feel it is relevant and that wp:logo should be changed slightly. You do have a guideline on your side, I'll give you that. ɱ (talk) · vbm · coi)
04:30, 9 April 2017 (UTC)
Thank you for listening to me. I am a librarian myself, and I do get the conflict between trying to be comprehensive and being seen as advertising. I personally don't see what was removed as being seriously relevant to the article - which is very comprehensive, in all fairness. I do think the article is better without the logo because it looks more neutral. The logo makes it look like advertising; do you see where I'm coming from? Kafka Liz (talk) 04:39, 9 April 2017 (UTC)
I do and I honestly appreciate that. I would really like if you could help me work with Ceoil in such a rational fashion; our conversations have become so heated, he's now making complaints about much of my work, and trying to make my FAC fail no matter the cost, it seems. We're not able to agree on anything, at all, so these conflicts or any interactions between us are nowhere near constructive. ɱ (talk) · vbm · coi) 04:45, 9 April 2017 (UTC)
It is very late/early my time, but I'll take a look after some sleep. I am always glad to help a fellow librarian if I can. Till after, Kafka Liz (talk) 05:05, 9 April 2017 (UTC)

Hello

Just stopping by to say hello and hope you are well. And to pitch an idea. I've been thinking about working up Kate Greenaway (I brought Edmund Evans to FA years ago and have always wanted to get the other articles in the suite finished) but am only very marginally capable of editing these days. She interests me not so much because of her illustrations, which I think are a bit saccharine, but because she found success as a professional artist at a time when few did, let alone women, and for her contributions to the success of childrens books in the Victorian era. Also, she died of breast cancer and I'd like to do something for breast cancer awareness month in October - even if only writing something during that month (I'm not looking for an FA from this; just a clean up and expansion). I thought I'd hit you up for help, if you're interested? Mostly I'd need copyediting help; my brain is filled with cobwebs and unsure about my writing skills these days. There's zero rush on this; I'd only be picking at it very slowly. If you're not interested or not currently editing, I understand fully. Take care, Victoriaearle (tk) 12:57, 17 September 2017 (UTC)

Actually, sorry to do this to you, but I've changed my mind after a few preliminary edits were wholesale reverted. Not that committed to this place. It was a good idea, but I don't do battle these days. So strike out all of the above except the "hello" part. Victoriaearle (tk) 21:57, 17 September 2017 (UTC)
Will take a look. Don't let the bastards cranky male "owners" grind you down. Kafka Liz (talk) 13:35, 18 September 2017 (UTC)
I'm not as strong as I'd like and had looked around for a quiet corner to work. Who knew? Especially when I've already worked there. Anyway, thanks for showing up. It'll be a slow burn, but I think I might stick with it, fingers crossed. Thanks for your edits - very much an improvement. Was happy to surface from the sources to see them. That's all from me for today. Victoriaearle (tk) 14:15, 18 September 2017 (UTC)

Guy

This guy was a on Colbert on Friday; its a persona, but what a persona. He looks like I feel; and Denis, especially, would love this stuff. Check out his battle vids also.[7] Ceoil (talk) 11:35, 4 February 2018 (UTC)

Wow! He’s great! Thanks! Kafka Liz (talk) 11:40, 4 February 2018 (UTC)

Really? Still?

Accept reason: Resolved below. NinjaRobotPirate (talk) 12:54, 5 February 2018 (UTC)

Always penalised for having the wrong husband, it would seem. Kafka Liz (talk) 11:49, 5 February 2018 (UTC)

Risker, can you take a look here? Sarah? Kafka Liz (talk) 12:18, 5 February 2018 (UTC)
Anyone? Kafka Liz (talk) 12:34, 5 February 2018 (UTC)
I disabled the autoblock. If you still can't edit, ping me. NinjaRobotPirate (talk) 12:46, 5 February 2018 (UTC)
It’s all good now - thank you. :) Kafka Liz (talk) 12:48, 5 February 2018 (UTC)
That was my fault, then. I shouldn't have set it in the first place. Sorry about that. NinjaRobotPirate (talk) 12:54, 5 February 2018 (UTC)
No worries. Accidents happen. Glad it’s all sorted now, and thanks again for fixing it. Kafka Liz (talk) 12:57, 5 February 2018 (UTC)
  • Hi Kafka Liz, I don't want you to think I ignored your ping, but I didn't get it. You added my name after signing the post, and pings have to be signed or they don't work. Anyway, I'm glad it got sorted out. SarahSV (talk) 23:32, 5 February 2018 (UTC)
Ah, didn’t realise that was how it worked. Thanks for getting back to me on this; glad it’s all sorted. Kafka Liz (talk) 16:27, 6 February 2018 (UTC)
  • I am sorry for your loss, Risker; I’ve had some recently as well. Didn’t mean to intrude, and I don’t think an IPBE is needed at present. NRP fixed it, and in any case, I’m not exactly on line every day any longer. Take care, Kafka Liz (talk) 10:49, 17 February 2018 (UTC)
She doesn’t care that he’s a vampire? So romantic!

Nah, you don't have the wrong husband. I can think of other things that are wrong, though. Anyway, thinking of you. All I have to offer is a pretty pic. Be well, Victoriaearle (tk) 20:46, 15 February 2018 (UTC)

That *is* lovely...thank you for that! Pretty images shouldn’t ever be downplayed, but I’ll spare you my trite ramblings about the nature of art :) Kafka Liz (talk) 10:54, 17 February 2018 (UTC)
(taken the liberty of adding a caption) Kafka Liz (talk) 10:57, 17 February 2018 (UTC)
Good caption. Makes you wonder what she's reading? Victoriaearle (tk) 17:10, 17 February 2018 (UTC)
Collectors’ edition of the Twilight Saga? Kafka Liz (talk) 18:48, 17 February 2018 (UTC)
Gah! I'd be embarrassed to have left you a picture of a woman reading that! But maybe the Black Hours? Anyway, I'm off. Sorry to see you got blocked too.Victoriaearle (tk) 19:22, 17 February 2018 (UTC)
Then it’s Deborah Harkness. The block only briefly affected me, and the mister is back doing those things he does best. Kafka Liz (talk) 19:27, 17 February 2018 (UTC)
She's good. I ran into another decent vampire one recently, but damn if I can't remember which it is in the stack of books I've been plowing through in the past months. Will shoot you an email if I remember. Victoriaearle (tk) 20:34, 17 February 2018 (UTC)

She is good, even though you can get the books in the airport as on-flight reading. Do tell ANY good fiction you have; real life, even in history, is incredibly depressing, and I’m currently hate-reading something that only completionism demands I finish. Save me! Kafka Liz (talk) 21:41, 17 February 2018 (UTC)

I thought I was the only person the world who does that! I've been reading lots of fantasy & some sci-fi, for purely escapist purposes. Don't know whether you like those genres, but I enjoyed Scott Lynch's "Locke Lamora" series (read straight through all three volumes). I read Brandon Sanderson's "Stormlight" series but not impressed - hate read my way through the most recent, all 1200 pages. I keep moving stacks of books to the basement and have a vague memory of a series that was quirky that I wanted to recommend. Will try to find. Victoriaearle (tk) 22:05, 17 February 2018 (UTC)
You are far from the only one, seriously. These are good recs - thank you! Do you ever do graphic novels, aka comics? Kafka Liz (talk) 22:16, 17 February 2018 (UTC)

Risker It seems I was wrong about not needing an exemption. Please look and act as you see fit. I’ll stand by whatever- I am not here to break rules, and all I’ve ever tried to do is help. Kafka Liz (talk) 23:02, 17 February 2018 (UTC)

Thank you; much appreciated. Kafka Liz (talk) 23:31, 17 February 2018 (UTC)

Unblock

  • This has been resolved. I hope it’s no longer in a queue; trying now to fix that without erasing the fact. Kafka Liz (talk) 00:07, 18 February 2018 (UTC)

Hello?

Victoriaearle - suggestions? Apart from divorce, that is? Kafka Liz (talk) 23:27, 17 February 2018 (UTC)

Oh God, not again. I went away for a few moments to eat. Will take a look. Don't divorce him. Not yet, anyway. Victoriaearle (tk) 23:32, 17 February 2018 (UTC)
  • I've granted IPBE, you might have to log out and clear your cache, but it should work. I've also left a snippy note to the admin who is responsible for the underlying block. Autoblock shouldn't be the default for any user blocks, and needs to be carefully considered. Times have changed - when autoblock was introduced, many users had static IPs, but hyperdynamic IPs (e.g., mobile phone networks) are now the norm. Risker (talk) 23:33, 17 February 2018 (UTC)
Thank you, Risker. We are sort of old, so we still have a static IP when at home. I appreciate your looking, and I’m sorry to trouble you over this. Thank again, Kafka Liz (talk) 23:40, 17 February 2018 (UTC)
Heck, this was the most useful thing I've done on Wikipedia in 2018 so far. In order to prevent unnecessary blood pressure elevation, I'm not going to research the reasons behind the underlying block, but it certainly wasn't targeted at you. I'm scratching my head about the default autoblocks, though; I thought we'd got rid of that eons ago, when people started using mobile networks to edit in huge chunks of the world. Maybe if enough non-admin Americans start getting caught in them, we'll get things fixed. Risker (talk) 00:03, 18 February 2018 (UTC)
Well thank you again. I’m not an admin, so I don’t know how “the buttons” work. I’m also not going to get into the politics, at all, though I of course have an opinion. And I hear what you are saying. The irony, if that’s what it is, is not lost. Kafka Liz (talk) 00:16, 18 February 2018 (UTC)

Are you released? Victoriaearle (tk) 00:45, 18 February 2018 (UTC)

Yep. Been flat on my back with the flu most of this week, though, so I wasn’t in a position to make much of it. Kafka Liz (talk) 20:46, 25 February 2018 (UTC)
Jeez came by to post best wishes for the weekend and just saw this, a month too late! Apologies for the late reply. Hope you're recovered and well by now and that spring has sprung in the Emerald Isle. Sending good thoughts your way. Victoriaearle (tk) 16:45, 31 March 2018 (UTC)

Singing

Miriam Makeba
4 March 1932 – 9 November 2008

Just saw a comment that made my day (even if a few days old). Thank you! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:01, 4 March 2018 (UTC)

Gerda, I am not sure we are talking about the same song, but I would welcome something pretty to cheer me up. I’m not a dab hand with Classical or opera, but I’ll see what I can find for you in return, if it’s copyright-compliant. Kafka Liz (talk) 14:03, 5 March 2018 (UTC)
Sorry (see my talk), I'm rather down myself, playing in F minor. Recovery in progress. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 14:05, 5 March 2018 (UTC)
Also sorry - I’m recovering from a seriously nasty bout with the flu and am not wholly caught up. Will check your page. Kafka Liz (talk) 14:09, 5 March 2018 (UTC)

Gerda, you’ve been very kind. I may be slow to respond, but it is not unappreciated. Kafka Liz (talk) 22:00, 14 April 2018 (UTC)

MOBA

Hello. I've added your image of the entrance to the Mensroom at MOBA on the Museum of Bad Art article. What, if I may ask, is the formal name of the photograph, so we can italicize it and add your name as the creator of the artwork. Thank you. Randy Kryn (talk) 21:42, 22 March 2018 (UTC)

If I may suggest a name: 2:14, which is the time shown on the clock as well as a totally tangential (i.e. 'Bad') reference to Valentine's Day. Randy Kryn (talk) 02:52, 24 March 2018 (UTC)
Hi Randy - That works for me, and I apologise for my delayed response. It never really had a title, but it certainly needs one, as one of the “faces” of MOBA. Thank you for the suggestion. Kafka Liz (talk) 21:41, 24 March 2018 (UTC)
Tee hee. I mean, thanks. MOBA will be the better for it. I just logged on about the same time you wrote that. Randy Kryn (talk) 21:45, 24 March 2018 (UTC)
All in the game for Bad Art. Kafka Liz (talk) 21:48, 24 March 2018 (UTC)
God, this takes me back. What an editor was Moni eh? Great pics also Liz, great to see your name ring out. The game is the game. Ceoil (talk) 22:18, 24 March 2018 (UTC)
Jesus, do I miss her. Though that may not be the right god to invoke. Kafka Liz (talk) 22:23, 24 March 2018 (UTC)
