Networked Learning

Hi Leigh, I just dropped into the Networked learning page and did a few edits. Thanks for getting it going; hope to help and learn. Hopefully we can get it expanded and listed on other relevant Wikipedia pages and categories, etc.. Jtneill - Talk 12:17, 27 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

License tagging for Image:MikeWilson.jpg

Thanks for uploading

Your You Tube Videos

As you may be aware, YouTube has recently come in for criticism over it's handling of copyrighted works.

I note that you have a number of potentially interesting videos on You Tube that you link to from your user page.

Instead of supporting troubled proprietary sites, Why not support projects that value creative talent and assist in ensuring that a viewing public can enjoy and expand upon it?

Wikimedia Commons is one project that needs creative content (under licensing that lets people enjoy and expand upon it).

It would be much appreciated if you would consider migrating videos for which you are the copyright owner to 'open' formats like Ogg Theora, and moving them from 'failed' proprietary sites like YouTube to community sites like Wikimedia Commons, under an appropriate license.

Sfan00 IMG (talk) 16:58, 5 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks Sfan00.. I will do that.. to date I have been using Blip.tv and Internet Archive a lot more as they support Creative Commons Attribution licensing. I would like to load to Wikimedia Commons but for two things - it is not easy to author video to Ogg Theora, and a hope for a dual uploader like what Blip.tv has.. basically, when I upload to Blip, it offers me a check box where I tell it to copy over to Archive.org as well.. Now, if it had another check box for Wikimediacommons.. fantastic! But I spose Wikimediacommons isn't going to allow any old format coming over.. if only WMC would do the transcoding for us like Archive.org does --Leighblackall (talk) 09:29, 30 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free media (File:Otago Polytechnic logo.jpg)

You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media
).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 06:23, 29 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there, and my apologies for the exceptionally slow reply to your message on my talk page. I'd burned out of Wikipedia for several years, but I thought it'd be appropriate to at least respond to your (old) message since I'm now back on again. If there are any similar events coming up in the future, feel free to throw a link in my general direction!

Fair use rationale for File:Jean Pain.jpg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to

fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the file description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale
.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. MGA73 (talk) 12:02, 11 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the heads up MGA73. I have pasted a copy of the email I received that gives permission from the copyright holder to use this image on Wikipedia. Leighblackall (talk) 10:29, 13 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
You need to have the copyright holder (not you) submit the aforementioned e-mail via the
WP:OTRS system for verification. Please do not remove the image deletion template until that OTRS ticket is confirmed. Skier Dude (talk) 04:39, 16 January 2011 (UTC)[reply
]
Thanks for the clearer advice Skier Dude. I have forwarded the original permission email, that is included in the details of the image, to:
  • [email protected]
  • date Mon, Jan 24, 2011 at 9:51 AM
  • subject Fwd: FW: Mother Earth News - Jean Pain image
I hope you can see that I'm trying to follow the process, and that we have permission to use the image. I notice the date for deletion is now! So I've left a message on the discussion page on the image, hopefully admins will see that.
Leighblackall (talk) 22:58, 23 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Don't worry if the image gets temporarily deleted: Once the OTRS ticket is received, an admin/sysop with OTRS access (not me) can restore the image. Skier Dude (talk) 17:22, 24 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

University of Canberra article

All that information you put in? You really, really need to find citations for it. One of the reasons I stripped most of the article was because there were no citations for it and it ended up looking like a chaotic list. So yeah, if you get the time, can you please cite every idea you put in? --LauraHale (talk) 22:53, 7 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

  • Which ideas do you mean? I created a section called Wikimedia Outreach, and listed events and activities with links out to the documentation of those events. As far as I can tell, such a list doesn't require citations.. its about as significant as an "external links" or "see also" section. No claims needing citations there as far as I can tell. Are you sure your not confusing where and when citations are required? Should we be talking about this on the actual page? Leighblackall (talk) 00:47, 9 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Style guides for translations

Translations are of both full articles and shorter articles continues. The process where short articles are chosen for translation hasn't been fully transparent. In the coming months we hope to have a first guide, so that anyone who writes medical or health articles knows how to get their articles to a standard where they can be translated! That's why we're currently working on medical good lede criteria! The idea is to have a similar peer review process to
